24. Acknowledgement

Mahi's POV:

The storeroom was pitch dark. "Ugh where is the light switch" I somehow found the switch and turned the light on. I kept a stick between the door entrances to not let it get closed.

There is a lot of stuff here but aunty said the albums are in a big wooden box. I searched and found a big box. I opened it and there were a lot of photo albums. I picked one and the first photo was of a small child standing on grass with a cute hat and shades.

"He looks so cute I can't imagine it's him. Now he looks so handsome but not cute but sometimes he can do cute things." I chuckled remembering the look on his face when he ripped bubbles accidentally.

I turned to another photo and it was a boy in a small cute purple frock. Oh my god aunty said she used to dress him as a girl because she bought a lot of baby girl dresses thinking she will have a daughter. I can't control my laugh. He even posed, keeping his palm on his chin and giving a small elegant smile.

"I can tease him so much, finally I have something against him." The evil thoughts started coming to my mind about how I can get reactions from him and irritate him in every possible way.

"We will see Mr Mehra. I want to see the look on your face when I will show you these wonderful memories from your childhood hehehe." the voice of something dropping came and I turned, the wooden stick fell on the ground and the door closed.

"Oh no no no!" I rushed toward the door but it closed before I would get the grip of the door handle. I tried opening it but it was of no use. It was not opening no matter how hard I tried. Icing on the cake is that I left my phone in the living room. I looked around and I was stuck here in the store room.

Suddenly my breathing became uneven. The memories of childhood started flashing back. I was unable to breathe properly. My throat went dry and the room started spinning around. My hands started to sweat.

"No no not again. I can't have a panic attack now." All the energy started leaving my body. "Come on Mahi you can't die here, breathe okay." I started talking to myself.

With whatever energy was left in my body I started banging the door. I know Mohan kaka is not here right now but he might come soon.

Even after 5 minutes no one came. All the unwanted thoughts started capturing my mind. What if nobody comes and I will be left here alone to die. "Stop thinking Mahi, start breathing you need to live. You just got your first big project." I need to keep myself conscious.

I tried banging again but my feet gave up and I dropped on the floor. The room started becoming black and my head felt light as if it's the last breath I am taking.

Kabir's POV:

I reached home and got down from my car. Mohan Kaka was coming back from the grocery shop because he had two big bags in both of his hands. "Arey aa gaye beta tum. Chalo tumhe or Mahi betiya, dono ko ek sath khana laga deta hu."

(You are home. Let's go, I will serve food to Mahi and you together.)

I nodded and we both moved inside. Her phone was on the couch but she was not around. "Where is-" I started but a loud thud was heard from the last part of the living area.

"Mahi betiya storeroom se kuch lene gai thi." Mohan kaka said and I rushed toward the storeroom. The door was locked and it wouldn't open. I decided to break the door and slammed it with my shoulder 2-3 times and it finally opened.

What I saw was Mahi was on the floor, unconscious. I rushed toward her, the sweat beads were shining on her forehead and she was struggling to breath.

"Hey dolphin, come on, open your eyes. See I am here beside you." Looking at her in this state, fear gripped my heart. Kaka brought a glass of water and I made her drink it.

"Mahi please open your eyes. Please." How she is here like this, this fear might kill me if she won't open her eyes right now.

Her eyes slightly opened "Ka-" she tried to say something but her voice was barely coming out.

"Hushh no need to say anything just relax I am here okay." I picked her up and left the store room. "Mohan kaka, call the doctor immediately." I informed him and went toward her room.

I placed her on her bed and sat beside her. I took her hand in mine, my heart thumping could be heard in my ears. "Nothing will happen to her, she will be alright." I kept repeating in my mind.

"Mahi keep your eyes open okay. See you are safe now nothing will happen to you okay. Trust me I won't let anything happen." she barely kept her eyes open. The doctor came and she checked her while I waited outside.

The doctor came out after 20 minutes. "How is she now, doctor?" I asked as soon as she came out.

"She is fine now. She had a minor panic attack due to suffocation and anxiety. I gave her an injection and she will be sleeping for 2 hours. When she wakes up make sure someone is with her and also feed her something. These are the medicines I prescribed." I took the slip and Mohan Kaka went to see her outside.

I went into her room, she was sleeping calmly now. I sat beside her looking at her all safe and sound my mind relaxed a bit. "I almost went crazy, I thought I also might have a panic attack looking at you like that." "Look at you, sleeping calmly as if nothing happened. I never felt like that before, it was like my heart might stop if you won't get up."

I know she can't hear anything I say right now and maybe that's why I am saying all this. A familiar voice was heard and the door opened.

"What are you doing here?" I asked as Ahan entered the room.

"I am here to meet you." He said, still standing at the door.

"Keep your voice down. She is sleeping." He moved toward the couch and settled on it.

"Why do you look like you had a near death experience? What happened?" I stood up from the bed and went toward him.

"Get up, let her rest, I will tell you afterwards." He lazily stood up and we both left her room and went to my room.

"She was stuck in the storeroom and had a panic attack." I took my casual clothes out from my wardrobe.

"Oh god is she okay now?" He asked with concern.

"Yea the doctor checked her and she is okay now." I went to the bathroom and took a quick shower. I came back and he was still there busy with his phone.

"Bro, tell me one thing. You like her, right? Looking at how concerned you were for her and I noticed you eyes are always on her or around her. That day in the restaurant also, you were very angry with her friends that they left her like that. There must be something, I never saw you like that before. You do like her right?" As always he has a lot to say.

"No!" I said while I dried my hair with my towel.

"Nah you are lying, I can clearly see something is going on." He kept his phone aside and started looking in my way

"No I don't think I like her but I think I love her." That's all it can be. I can't deny it anymore. Maybe I fell in love with her when I saw her or when she first came here. Whenever it was, it happened a long ago or maybe just now.

Being around her gives a different kind of peace. Her pain hurts me, her smile brings a smile to my face. It's like her emotions are connected to me. I love her and that's all I know right now.

"Wait, did I hear that right? The Kabir Mehra just acknowledge his feelings!" The dramatic reactions he gives, He is an actor but his overacting is worse.

"Why are you here Ahan?" I ignored his previous question.

"I was here to ask for a favor from my dear friend." As expected either he is here to eat mom's food or to just disturb me.

"Speak up what it is?" I brushed my hair and sat on my bed.

"I need Nitya's number." He said in a breath but I managed to understand.

"Why?" I asked, balancing my weight on my palms.

"You confessed so I'll also confess. I like her, she is kind, calm, beautiful, just my type." He said thinking about something.

"I don't know you are a big star, find your own way and now get out of my room." He made a face but left saying I am no good friend. I went downstairs to the kitchen.

"Mohan Kaka, I'll cook for her. You go and rest." He said he would do it but I insisted and then he left. I made vegetable soup for her. It was almost time for her to wake up so I served a bowl for her and went to her room.

I placed the bowl on the table and tried to wake her up. "Hey you are up. Come on get up, you need to eat something and then take your medicines." I helped her to sit and she looked at me.

"You need anything?" She shook her head in no. I took the bowl and placed the spoon near her lips. She didn't open her mouth but after a few seconds she drank the soup. I made her finish even though she complained.

"Here, have your medicine." I handed her the pills and a glass of water and she took them. "How are you feeling now?" I asked keeping the glass aside.

"I am feeling fine now, thank you for saving me or else might have died there." Her words brought back the unsettling feeling. How can she talk about this casually?

"Be careful what you say dolphin. Nothing can happen to you, I won't let it happen." I stood up from bed but she held my hand to stop me.

"Can you not leave me here alone, please." The girl who always tells me to stay away from her wants me beside her. How I fell in love with her this soon? My expression softened hearing her low voice. I grabbed a chair and sat beside her bed.

"I am not going anywhere. Tell me what you want to do." She thought for a while.

"Video games." She said and how can I not agree when she wants it. We played video games together and I lost every round. She is a pro in it.

"You lost again!" She squealed in happiness and I could only smile looking at her.

"Khanne ka waqt ho gaya hai ab tum dono ko kha lena chahiye or Kabir tumne to dhophar se kuch bhi nai khaya." Mohan kaka entered the room to call us for dinner.

(It's time for dinner you both should eat now and Kabir you didn't eat anything since afternoon.)

"What? you still haven't eaten anything?" She looked at me with her sharp eyes. "Kaka ap hum dono ke liye khana mere kamre me hi lekar ayie." She said and he agreed.

(Uncle please bring both of our food in my room only)

"I am thankful that you looked after me this whole time but you don't have to remain hungry Kabir." She stood up from the couch and went to her wardrobe. The only thing that remained stuck in my mind was that she called me by my name for the first time.

"Say that again?"

"What?" She stopped to look at me and raised her eyebrows.

"My Name you never said it before." Her expression changed but she didn't say anything.

"I'll be back in a minute." She rushed toward the bathroom.

Mohan Kaka came and left the food tray. She also came out after a few minutes and we had our dinner in silence. I didn't want to ruin this time with her by saying anything unnecessary. After we were done with our food I gave her medicines and tucked her in bed.

"Good night dolphin. I am just in the next room. Call me if you want anything okay." I started to leave the room but her voice made me stop in my tracks.

"Good night.... Kabir." She smiled and my heart skipped a beat. God why this girl always does this I just wish I can go and hug her tightly. Well I will wait till she falls for me. Then I will do everything I want, I swear I won't let her go.

"We will see dolphin." She gave me a confused look but I left her room, closing the door behind me lightly.
