It was spring time in Italy which means it's starting to get warmer, perfect time for a school trip.
Young Paige bueckers was very excited for this trip. She had been dreaming about Italy and what it would be like for weeks.
Her parents were a bit hesitant about letting her go since the flight from Minnesota to Italy was a long one, and they would be several miles away from their daughter. But after constant begging and chores they said yes.
She immediately packed all the summer clothes she had, not realizing it was way more than she needed. Her mom had to sit down with her and help her pack.
On the other side in Italy young Evelina Ricci was visiting her grandparents. Her grandmother had recently got sick, so she had to take a couple days off of school back home so her parents could come here.
She loved being in Italy. Unlike when she is in New York she has freedom to wander the streets. She never understood why she had this much freedom, but maybe it was because almost everyone here knew one another.
She would often leave in the morning not coming back till the evening due to her adventures from the day. Her parents never worried, they were too focused on her grandmother and her younger siblings who weren't allowed to go anywhere.
The long flight didn't seem to bother Paige at all even when she was sat on the plane next to a friend, her nerves weren't strong.
When their flight finally landed in Italy Paige got up immediately. 10 plus hours sitting isn't easy for anyone, especially a middle schooler. The chaperones were very stressed about all the kids making sure no one was left behind on the plane and everyone was there in the hotel lobby. The hotel wasn't a luxurious one but it was cute.
After going over everything over and over again everyone was dismissed to their rooms, expected to be up early for day one of the trip.
Paige could barely sleep she was filled with excitement and starting to miss home just a little.
Nothing exciting happened for Evelina the day Paige arrived. She did her usual stroll around town hoping for something to pop out at her, but there was nothing.
She ate leftovers from the night before and got in bed reading a random book she found. She didnt understand what was going on in the book but she enjoyed the sense of reading. Even better that it mean it was another book she could put on the list of books she had read.
After about an hour of reading but not retaining she put the book down turning over waiting for slumber to take control.
The next morning Evelina got ready in hopes for an adventure. Today felt different like she would actually go on one.
As soon as she got to the busy streets she was handed a small bouquet of flowers, she didn't question and continued to walk.
The big group of middle schoolers was hard to keep track of, all of the curiosity causing them to stop and look when they weren't supposed to was making it hard to move as one. So when Paige stops for a moment to look at flowers she had read about the group kept going.
Unfortunately she didn't notice until they were out of her line of sight causing her to not know which way to go. Panic started to creep into her body. What was she supposed to do now? She didn't know her way around. She was lost in a foreign country.
She started to walk the streets hoping she was going the right way when she was bumped to the side by someone else.
Evelina was too busy lost in her book to pay attention to the world around her. Most people would move out of the way, but out of nowhere she practically ran into someone. Her book fell to the ground and she quickly grabbed it. "Mi dispiace tanto." her young voice spoke. When she finally looked up she realized she bumped into another young girl who had a panicked look on her face.
"I'm so sorry." She restated in hopes she spoke English.
