The air outside is starting to get colder, which means it time to convert from shorts to jeans.

I was in some random room with Cameron while she grabs all the things she needs. Things like medicine and other random stuff I wasn't paying attention to.

When we walk onto the court all the girls are already there.

A couple waved as Cameron walked over to an athletic trainer.

Paige is off to the side watching the players.

"Hey." I say sitting down next to her.

"Hey. You are here."

"Yup. Guess you just can't keep me away. So what's up with you?" I lean back in my seat.

"Uhhh, nothing much just watching."

"How's your, uh-"

"Knee?" She answers

"No your ACL."

"The ACL is in your knee." She lets out a small chuckle.

"Oh." I let out a short laugh. "My bad. I'm only human." I throw up my arms in defense.

"If I being honest it's not great. I'm just so tired of not being able to be out there with them."

Before I can speak I am cut off

"Wow that's the most emotion for your knee that's come out yet. Lina needs to come more often so I can information out." Cam says

I give her a look and when she sees it she excuses herself.

"Sorry about that."

"It's fine I understand where she is coming from."

I put my hand on her arm for comfort

As she looks at me for a moment there is this weird feeling that I can't put a finger on, so I quickly look away.

"Listen, I know we aren't that close, but if you need anything I'm here."

"Thanks Eve."

To switch the mood I grab a basketball next to me and I hand it to her so she can practice.

"Can you do that thing where you like spin it on your finger"

Her lips form into a small smirk and she starts to spin the ball on her finger

I pull my hands together in amusement.

With one swift movement from her hand she grabs one of mine putting the spinning ball on my pointer finger.

"Oh my god I'm doing it!"

I laugh looking up at her as she is already looking at me. I immediately look back to the ball.

What is going on. I can usually hold eye contact with people, but with her I just can't.

The ball falls off my finger and she catches it.

"Thanks for that."

"No problem."

The air was filled with awkward silence.

I look over to see Cam, I guess doing practice with the girls. I mean that's what I think she is doing.

"I'll be right back" I tell Paige

I walk over to their side of the court just watching Cam. I don't think she really knows what she is doing.

"Eve!"

"Yes."

"Get over here and help me I've been dragged into this."

"I don't know what you want me to do." I shrug.

"I don't know! Just come here!"

I stand next to her and the team starts to talk.

"How about we play a quick game on this side of the court." Dorka says.

"First team to five?" Nika responds.

The team agrees except for me and Cam. Great.

I'm put on a team with Cam, Nika, Ines, and Dorka.

"Give me one sec."

I definitely did not wear the right clothes for this, best I can do is take off my jewelry.

When I'm putting my hair up and out of my face I look over at Paige. She isn't paying attention to what we are doing. I can't help but feel hurt because she probably doesn't care what I'm doing.

I walk back over to my team and the game starts. I don't know a lot about basketball but I know the basics. So at least I can dribble and pass.

✰✰✰

It's been 30 minutes and we are still going. I'm covered in sweat because I'm so out of shape it's embarrassing. The points are tied and both teams have gotten really close to getting that last shot, but someone always interferes.

I'm up close to Aubrey on defense trying to keep my eye on all the ball. Why am I so dedicated to this?

All of the sudden Cam gets the ball and I immediately run to open up so she can give the ball to me and I can attempt to pass it someone else to shoot.

But before I can get my thoughts straight I have the ball in my hand and I've made the shot. When the ball makes it in Cam runs to me jumping up and down.

We won.

Even though it was just a silly game it still felt great to win at something I never do.

I had a quick celebration with the rest of my team before Geno came back from wherever he was telling the girls to lock in or they will have to run suicides. Yikes.

I walk back over to Paige out of breath.

"Hey." I say catching my breath.

"Need water?" She holds out her water bottle.

"No no I'm fine. That's yours anyways. You are the athlete."

"Does it look like I'm doing anything athletic?. I don't mind just take it."

I take the water bottle trying hard not to drink all of what's left.

"Nice shot."

"Hm?"

"The shot you did at the end. Your form was pretty good."

"Thanks"

"It could be better though." I give her a look as she says that.

"Hey, cut me some slack Ive never played basketball."

"Really?"

"Yup. My brother is the athlete of the family." I hand back her water bottle.

"Well if you want I could show you how to have perfect form....For the future."

"Okay, bet"

She gets up walking to the empty side of the court and I follow.

She makes a small demonstration of what I'm supposed to look like and I copy, but I don't think I'm doing it right because she comes up behind me fixing my hands.

She then puts her hands on my waist so I'm bending my knees more.

I swear I couldn't breathe for a second.

"Okay there. Now shoot."

I do as I'm told and the ball makes it in with the following sound of a swoosh.

"Fuck yeah!" I say turning to Paige.

For an awkward moment we both stand there so I high five her. Why am I like this?

"I saw you and Paige." Cameron says in the seat next to me.

"Yeah?" I respond tryin to keep my eyes on the road.

"You guys are cute together."

"Oh shut up she was just showing me how to shoot."

"Whatever you say."
