Chapter 53

FIFTY-ONE

The Duo » yoonmin [FF]

Previously on "The Duo":

A heavy tension in the Deputy's office made it almost impossible to breathe. Jimin feels his whole body being consumed by a sudden anger. He feels it rushing through his veins. He knew something was off, he knew it - he felt it.

Looking at their Commander, Jimin immediately knew how bad this was. The anger is written all over Kim's face. His gaze shifts to Seokjin who's typing on his laptop, most likely trying to stop the hacker attack and to find out their location.

Just as Namjoon's about to say something, another person rushes into the room. No other than the deputy Chief Manobal herself.

"What the hell is going on??" She shouts and everything that happened after she entered the room, was like a movie flashing right in front of Jimin's eyes. He couldn't understand a thing, he couldn't hear a damn thing, his eyes lost focus, his hands trembling, his legs feeling weak.

It's not a vision - damnit it's just panic. Anger mixed with frustration, hatred, fear but also determination. He clenches his jaw, forms his hand into a fist, a deep breath in - and out. Everything around him happens so fast, commands being given, people rushing around , weapons being handed out, protective gear being put on. It all happened like a dream, and so fast.

Even though Jimin may seemed out of focus, his whole mind and body is ready - and fucking focused.

It's time to save their colleagues and kill these motherfuckers.

THE TENSION IN the truck was suffocating. Jimin's heart pounded against his ribs as he clutched his rifle tighter, his knuckles whitening under his gloves. The sound of the vehicle's engine hummed low and steady, a contrast to the storm in his chest. He glanced to his left. Yoongi sat next to him, staring straight ahead, his expression unreadable, but Jimin knew better. He could see it in the subtle twitch of his partner's jaw, the slight narrowing of his eyes—Yoongi was just as tense as he was.

Jimin couldn't shake the unease feeling in his gut, a feeling he'd never felt quite so sharp. His thoughts kept pulling him back to the vision, the one that plagued his dreams and sent cold chills down his spine even when he was awake. What if today is the day it happens? He shoved the thought aside as Commander Kim's voice cut through the static of his nerves.

"Five minutes out," Namjoon said, his voice calm but firm. It carried authority, the kind that steadied them all when things felt on the verge of collapse.

Jimin looked out the window, the cloudy cityscape rushing past as they approached the location. The address they'd managed to pull from the hacker's digital trail had led them here—an old industrial district on the outskirts of the city, filled with abandoned warehouses. It was the perfect place to hide, the perfect place to set a trap. Jimin's jaw tightened as he thought of their three colleagues. They will be alright, they have to.

The convoy of vehicles came to a halt several meters from the building. Namjoon stepped out first, his presence commanding as ever, with Seokjin following closely behind. The rest of the team stepped out the cars as well.

Commander Kim gathered them in a tight circle, his voice low but charged with urgency. The sound of rain pattered against the truck's metal roof, and a cold breeze swept through the air, carrying the scent of wet asphalt. The cloudy sky above cast an ominous gray hue over the industrial district.

"We don't know how many hostiles are inside or what traps they've set," Namjoon began, his sharp gaze moving from one officer to the next. "This is unfamiliar ground, and the stakes are high. Proceed with extreme caution."

He paused, looking over the group before splitting them into teams. "Argent, Viper, Doughboy, Champ, and Bomber—you're with me. We'll take the lead."

Jimin adjusted his rifle strap, the rain slicking his dark uniform as he nodded in acknowledgment. Beside him, Yoongi checked his weapon, his face calm but his eyes razor-sharp. Namjoon continued, "Bullseye, Booter, Astro and Joker, you're taking the second team. You'll secure the perimeter and provide backup as needed."

Taehyung flashed a brief thumbs-up, while Seokjin rolled his shoulders, his piercing gaze scanning the distance. Seungmin and Hyunjin gave a short nod.

The rain began to fall harder as Namjoon finished, droplets streaking down their helmets and gear. "Stay sharp, stay coordinated. We're not leaving anyone behind." The plan was clear, but that didn't stop Jimin's mind from racing. He glanced at Yoongi again, who met his gaze for the briefest moment. It was enough to steady him. We've done this before. We'll do it again.

The teams split, moving like shadows across the wet ground. Jimin's team advanced toward the front entrance, their boots squelching softly in the rain-soaked dirt. The building loomed ahead, a hulking, rusted structure with shattered windows and sagging metal doors. It looked abandoned, but Jimin knew better.

Namjoon raised his hand, signaling them to halt. Hoseok crouched low, his sharp eyes scanning the structure. "No movement yet," he whispered.

"Stay alert," Namjoon replied, his voice steady. "We move in on my signal."

From his position, Jimin's eyes swept over the building, his nerves taut. Something about the place felt wrong. He could feel it in his gut, an unease that he couldn't shake off. His gaze flicked to Yoongi, who was crouched beside him. Yoongi's face was impassive, like the professional he has always been.

Namjoon gave the signal, and they moved as one, their steps silent despite the rain. Bangchan, and Yoongi, took point, their weapons raised as they approached the entrance. Hoseok followed closely, his gear jingling faintly as he moved, prepared for any explosive devices they might encounter.

The front door creaked loudly as Bangchan pushed it open, and the team slipped inside, weapons drawn. The interior was damp and decayed, with puddles of water pooling on the cracked concrete floor. The sound of dripping water echoed in the empty space, mingling with the distant rumble of thunder.

They spread out, moving in pairs to sweep the area. Jimin's heart pounded as he cleared a corner, his eyes darting between shadowed machinery and broken crates. The tension was suffocating, every second dragging like an eternity.

Then, from somewhere deeper in the building, they heard it—a muffled cry.

Namjoon's hand shot up, signaling them to halt. "Sounded like it came from upstairs," he whispered. "Move, but watch your step."

They approached a narrow metal staircase, the sound of their boots muted by the rain hammering against the roof above. As they reached the second floor, Jimin's breath caught.

In the middle of the room sat a figure tied to a chair, illuminated by a faint, flickering light. His head hung low, his soaked hair stuck on his face. Thin wires ran from the chair to several devices scattered across the floor—bombs.

Jimin's heart lurched, he got closer to the male. Jeongin. Fuck, it's Jeongin.

The young officer's head jerked up at the sound of their footsteps, his face pale and bruised but unmistakable. Jasper, Jeongin's codename, was meant to be on another mission, but here he was—at the center of a deadly trap.

"Argent, hold," Yoongi's voice snapped him back to reality. Yoongi grabbed Jimin's arm before he could take a step forward, his sharp eyes locking onto the wires.

"It's rigged," Yoongi muttered, his voice low but firm. "One wrong move, and it'll blow."

Namjoon knelt beside Hoseok, who was already examining the setup. "Can you handle this?"

Hoseok lips pressed into a thin line as he studied the devices, his fingers hovering over the wires. "It's a complex setup, but I'll do what I can. I need time and quiet."

Namjoon placed a hand on Hoseok's shoulder. "Do what you do best. We trust you."

The Sergeant gave a brief nod, his focus unbroken as he worked on the intricate wiring. Namjoon then motioned to Yoongi and Jimin. "We're moving forward. Doughboy and Bomber, hold this floor and back up Champ. Make sure nothing gets through."

Jimin hesitated for a moment, his gaze flickering back to Jeongin. Their eyes met, and despite the circumstances, Jeongin managed a faint nod. It was like a silent promise: I'll be alright.

Jimin swallowed hard, the lump in his throat making it difficult to breathe. His chest tightened, but he forced himself to focus. He couldn't falter now—not when so much was at stake.

"Let's go," Namjoon whispered firmly, his voice cutting through the tension.

Yoongi took point, his movements smooth and calculated as they got to another set of stairs deeper into the heart of the building. Namjoon followed close behind, his eyes scanning every shadow and corner, and Jimin brought up the rear, his grip on his rifle steady despite the whirlwind of emotions inside him.

The rain continued to pound against the building, a relentless rhythm that matched the pounding in Jimin's chest. He couldn't shake the image of Jeongin tied to that chair, surrounded by wires and explosives. But the faint nod Jeongin had given him replayed in his mind, grounding him.

As they reached the next level, Namjoon held up a fist, signaling them to halt. They heard footsteps. Jimin inhaled deeply, steeling himself for what lay ahead. He cast a quick glance at Yoongi, who was focused, his sharp eyes scanning for threats. Namjoon's quiet yet commanding presence reassured him that they could handle this.

There was no turning back now. They were getting closer.

Namjoon motioned forward, and the three of them moved, their steps silent but ready to face whatever lay in wait. Jimin adjusted his grip on his rifle, his pulse quickening. The next few minutes would determine everything—whether they succeeded or whether they all went down in flames.
