Chapter 23
Forbidden Bonds
Sebastian
Sebastian is woken up the next morning by a loud banging noise coming from the bathroom. âOuch!â someone yelps.
He gets up and rushes into the bathroom, where Skye is on the floor. âSkye!â he says, alarmed, âAre you okay?â
âIâm oâ¦okay,â she answers, âI think I hâ¦hurt my aâ¦ankle.â
âWhat were you doing? You arenât supposed to be up by yourself anyway!â
âI had to go to the bâ¦bathroom!â
âYou shouldâve woken me up! Angela couldâve helped you!â
âIâm sâ¦sorry, I dâ¦didnât tâ¦think aâ¦about tâ¦that. I tâ¦thought it would be oâ¦okay.â
He shakes his head. âLet me help you up. Iâm going to have Angela look at your ankle.â
âOâ¦okay.â She slowly stands up and her leg buckles from beneath her. âOw!â
Sebastian sighs and gently picks her up, carrying her back to the hospital bed. Once sheâs settled on the bed, he mindlinks Angela. âAngela,â he says, âcould you come to Skyeâs room?â
âYes, of course,â Angela responds, âWhy?â
âShe went to the bathroom by herself and took a fall. I think her ankle is sprained.â
âIâll be there soon.â
Skye begins to fidget around in the bed, obviously uncomfortable. âSkylar,â Sebastian says, âstop moving around some much. Youâre going to hurt yourself again.â
Angela comes into the room, where Sebastian is gently scolding Skye. âSkylar,â she says, âlet me look at your ankle.â Skye moves her leg to where Angela can see it. âOoh, ouch, thatâs definitely sprained. Were you able to put any weight on it?â
âShe wasnât,â Sebastian answers, âher leg buckled when she tried to.â
Angela sighs. âIâm going to wrap your ankle.â
âWâ¦will I still be aâ¦able to go home?â
âYes, as long as your ankle doesnât worsen.â
âSo râ¦rest?â
âYes, rest. Iâll go and get your discharge papers.â She leaves the room.
Silas and Celeste begin to fuss. Skye looks startled. âSkye?â Sebastian says, âWhat do I do?â
âGive them to me. Tâ¦theyâre probably hungry aâ¦again.â
Sebastian carefully gives Skye Silas and then Celeste. Skye awkwardly lowers her gown and begins to feed them both. âSkylar? Is it okay for you to feed them at the same time?â
Skye looks unsure. âI dâ¦donât know.â She looks frantically around the room âI dâ¦didnât tâ¦think about tâ¦that! Iâ¦thisâ¦tâ¦this is hâ¦how I fâ¦fed Gâ¦Gray and Tâ¦Theo!â
âSkye, itâs okay, we can ask Angela when she gets back.â This doesnât help as much as he thought it would. âSkylar, itâs okay!â
Angela comes running into the room. âWhat the hell is going on?â she asks. She sees that Skye is feeding the twins. âOh, theyâre eating well, thatâs good.â Skye lets out a whimper, her uncertainty and fear finally coming to a head. Angela sets the discharge paper onto the bedside table. âHoney, whatâs wrong?â She shakes her head, unable to answer. Angela turns to Sebastian. âWhatâs going on?â
âIs it okay for her to breastfeed both at the same time?â he blurts out.
âThatâs fine, one may need more than the other though.â She looks back at Skye. âIf that happens, donât worry too much. Babies each have their own personalities, so if things differ a bit between them, thatâs okay.â
âOâ¦okay,â Skye whispers.
Angela sits down on bed. âHoney, itâs okay.â
âIâm sâ¦scared. I dâ¦donât kâ¦know what Iâm dâ¦doing!â
âSweetheart, thatâs normal. Look at Gray and Theo. Theyâre thriving. Youâve done well with them.â
Skye simply begins to cry, her emotions from the years of abuse and having to raise her boys on her own finally coming out.
Angela rubs her back. âShh, youâre safe. Youâre home now. Weâll keep you and your children safe, okay?â
âOâ¦oâ¦okay,â she manages to sniffle out.
âNow, Sebastian is going to sign these release papers and then you and your babies can go home.â Skye nods as she continues to cry.
Sebastian quickly signs the papers and hands them to Angela. âCome on, Skylar,â he says softly, âletâs go home.â
âHâ¦home,â she murmurs.
Skye
When they arrive home, Sebastian mindlinks Alice and tells her, âAlice, weâre home. Could you come out and help Skye into the house? She fell and sprained her ankle before we left.â
âOf course, alpha,â Alice responds. A few minutes later, Alice comes outside. âSkylar, letâs get you inside.â She helps Skye out of the car and they slowly hobble towards the house. Sebastian follows them, carrying the twins in their carseats.
Gray and Theo are waiting in the living room. âMama!â they cry out, as soon as their mother walks through the door.
âHello,â she answers softly, âIâm hâ¦home.â
âWhere babies, mama?â Theo asks.
Sâ¦Sebbyâs bring them in.â As if on queue, Sebastian comes into the room and gently places the twins down.
The boys run over and peek at their siblings. âMama,â Gray wonders, âwhy they small?â
Skye smiles at him. âYou wâ¦were that sâ¦small too wâ¦when you and your bâ¦brother were born.â
Grayâs eyes widen. âReally?â
She nods. âMama?â Theo asks, âWhat their names?â
âSâ¦Silas and Câ¦Celeste.â
âThey look like mama.â
âThey dâ¦do.â
âMama, hold them?â
âYou want to hold tâ¦them?â Gray and Theo nod. âOâ¦okay, sit down on the câ¦couch.â They climb onto the couch and wait.
Skye carefully gives Gray Silas and Theo Celeste. âAh, small!â Gray exclaims, excitedly.
âYâ¦yes, they are small.â A few minutes pass and Silas and Celeste begin to fuss.
âMama!â Theo yells, distressed.
âEr, Sâ¦Sebby, could youâ¦â
âI got it,â Sebastian answers. He walks over to Gray and Theo and carefully takes Silas and Celeste from them. âHere.â He gives the twins to Skye.
Skye begins to breastfeed them again. Gray and Theo watch in astonishment. âMama?â Gray questions, âWhat you doing?â
âIâm fâ¦feeding them,â Skye answers.
âWhat they eating?â
âMilk.â
âI wantâ
âNo, Gâ¦Gray. Silas and Câ¦Celeste need it more.â Gray begins to throw a tantrum. âGâ¦Gray, please! Câ¦calm dâ¦down!â
Silas and Celeste start to fuss, while Skye is feeding them. Skye looks helplessly around the room. âGray. Theo why donât we go and play?â Sebastian asks.
âDonât wanna!â Gray shouts, âwant milk too!â
âWe can go and get milk from the kitchen.â
âNo! Want milk from mama!â
Sebastian picks Gray up and carries him out the room. âWant milk too!â Theo shouts, before running after them.
A few minutes later, Charlotte comes into the room. âSkylar,â she asks, âare you okay?â
Skye looks at her, her face pale. âI dâ¦donât know,â she answers, âheâs nâ¦never bâ¦been like that bâ¦before.â
âItâs normal behavior for a boy of his age. Heâs in a safe environment now, so it may happen more often.â
âOâ¦oh, I dâ¦didnât know tâ¦that.â
âThatâs okay, parenthood is all about learning.â
âHow doâ¦how do I calm him down?â
âA lot of patience, if you arenât able to calm him down, heâll eventually tire himself out and stop.â
Skye looks back and forth from Silas and Celeste, who are still breastfeeding, and Charlotte, who seems worried. âCâ¦Charlotte?â she whispers.
âWhat is it, sweetheart?â
âIâ¦is it aâ¦always sâ¦stressful?â
âParenthood?â Skye nods, âNo, itâs not. Itâs filled with up and downs, happiness, angry, stress, fatigue.â
She sighs. âOâ¦okay, tâ¦thatâs good.â
âYes, it is. Skylar, donât forget that you have Sebastian and me too. Weâll help you when weâre able to.â
âRâ¦really?â
âYes, really. You tell me if Sebastian does anything stupid. Iâll whack some sense into him.â
Skye lets out a nervous laugh. âI wâ¦will.â
