Chapter 16
Forbidden Bonds
Sebastian
After Anne leaves, Skye faces Sebastian and asks, âCâ¦could I wâ¦walk aâ¦around fâ¦for a fâ¦few minutes?â
âIâll ask Angela,â he answers.
âOâ¦okay.â
He mindlinks Angela and asks her if Skye could walk around for a few minutes. âIâll be there in a few minutes,â she answers, âShe can, but wait for me to get there.â
âAlright.â He looks at his mate. âShe says that you can, but she wants us to wait for her to get here.â Skye nods and they wait in silence for Dr. Graylen to enter the room.
When Angela finally arrives, Skye is already sitting up with Sebastianâs help. âSebastian,â she says, âyou can help her stand now.â
âOkay,â Sebastian answers. He gently assists Skye with standing and they slowly and very wobbly begin to hobble around the room.
âSkye,â Dr. Graylen says, âplease let one of us know if it starts to hurt too much to walk.â
âOâ¦okay,â Skye whispers, while focusing on the ground.
Sebastian guides her around the room until her leg buckles from between her. âWâ¦wah!â she cries out as she almost falls.
Sebastian reaches out and grabs her before she hits the floor. âItâs okay,â he whispers, âIâve got you.â
âOâ¦oohâ¦â
He picks her up and carries her back to her bed. âRest,â he says, âyou ought to be tired after walking around for as long as you did.â
âMhmm,â she murmurs as she closes her eyes.
Skye
Skye sleeps for several hours before waking up due to discomfort. âSâ¦Sebby?â she whispers. âAâ¦are yâ¦you still hâ¦here?â
âIâm here,â he answers softly, âis there something wrong?â
âI dâ¦donât kâ¦know!â
He quickly mindlinks Angela. âAngela, could you come to Skyeâs room?â
âWhy is something wrong?â
âIâm not sure. I asked Skye and she said she doesnât know either.â
âDoes she look okay?â
âYeah, well she looks a bit uncomfortable.â
âIâll be there soon.â
âAngelaâs on her way,â he tells Skye.
âOâ¦okay,â Skye whimpers.
Angela comes into the room a few minutes later, âSkylar,â she asks, âwhat seems to be the problem.â
âI dâ¦donât kâ¦know!â She shuffles in the bed, trying to find a comfortable position.
âAre you in pain?â
âMâ¦my tâ¦tummy!â
Angela comes closer to Skye. âMay I?â she asks, gesturing towards Skyeâs abdomen. Skye nods and Angela gently palpitates her abdomen. âDoes this hurt?â Skye shakes her head. âIâll be right back. Iâm going to go get the ultrasound machine.â She leaves the room, returning several minutes later with a portable ultrasound machine. âHold still, sweetheart.â
Sky watches as Dr. Graylen squirts some gel onto her stomach and begins to move the probe in the gel. âIs everything okay?â she whispers.
âIt would seem so. Is your pain consecutive or does it come and go?â
âCâ¦comes and gâ¦goes.â
âHave you timed it at all?â Skye shakes her head. Angela is quiet for a few minutes, thinking about what might be causing Skyeâs pain. âHoney, I think you may be experiencing false labor?â
Skye looks frightened. âIs that bâ¦bad?â
âNo, itâs normal for some women, just let the alpha or me know if your pain becomes consecutive or if the pain comes one or two minutes apart.â
âOâ¦okay, wâ¦why?â
âBecause that would indicate that you may actually be going into labor.â
âWhat? Iâ¦isnât that bâ¦bad?â
âNot as bad as you think. Shifter babies tend to do better when theyâre born premature, at least compared to other species. Donât worry too much.â
âOâ¦okay, Iâll tâ¦try.â
Sebastian
Sebastian stays with Skye for a few hours before leaving. âSkye,â he says, âI have to take care of something. Iâll be back soon.â
âIâ¦is eâ¦everything okay?â she asks.
âYes, itâs nothing bad, I promise.â
âOâ¦okay.â
He leaves the room and begins to look for Angela. He finds her in her office. âAngela?â he says, âMay I come in?â
âYes.â She turns around in her swivel chair. âWhat do you need?â
âCould I take Skye out for a few hours tomorrow? It wonât be anything too strenuous, just lunch and shopping.â
âAlright, but take a wheelchair with her. I really donât want her to strain herself.â
âOkay, I will. Iâm going to set up everything, then Iâll be back. Keep an eye on Skye for me.â
âI will.â
He leaves the hospital and heads back to his house. âAlice?â he calls out, âWhere are you?â
âIâm in the living room, Alpha!â she answers. He walks out to the living room. âAlpha, what do you need?â
âEr, could you prepare lunch for Skye and me tomorrow? Iâve gotten permission from Angela for her to leave the hospital for lunch and shopping.â
âOf course, alpha. What would you like me to make?â
âMake something light and easy to digest. I donât want to make Skye sick.â
âAlright, should I make the same thing for you?â
âYes, like I said I donât want to make her sick. I know certain smells might cause her to become sick too.â
âWhat time should I prepare the meal?â
âAround noon.â
âOkay, itâll be done.â
âThank you.â
He leaves his house and makes his way to a small shopping center. âAlpha!â the owner of the shopping center greets, âWhat can I do for you?â
âWould it be possible for me to rent out the shopping center for tomorrow afternoon?â
The ownerâs eyes widen. âOf course, alpha. May I know why?â
âI want to bring my mate here to shop, but sheâs shy and she hates loud noises and big crowds.â
âHow long would you need it for?â
âProbably two or three hours, nothing too long.â
âAlrighty, things will be cleared out for you tomorrow!â
âThank you, Iâll take my leave now.â He leaves the shopping center and returns to the hospital. âSkye?â he says, knocking on her door, âIâm back.â
âSâ¦Sebby!â she exclaims, sounding excited.
âDid you miss me?â
âYâ¦yes, I dâ¦donât lâ¦like the hâ¦hospital.â
âMe neither, really, but you being here makes it better.â
Skye blushes and looks away from him. âWâ¦will you sâ¦stay tâ¦tonight?â
âOf course.â He begins to move towards the couch.
Skye blushes again. âNâ¦no, I mâ¦meanâ¦Iâ¦.â She looks around the room, looking very flustered. Eventually, she scoots over on the bed and looks expectedly at him.
âOh, you meanâ¦are you sure?â
She nods and he carefully climbs onto the hospital bed with her. She lays her head onto his chest and sighs happily. Soon sheâs asleep. He watches her for a while before falling asleep.
