Chapter 61

If it weren’t for the fact that she was dealing with people from the Knight Family, Alice would have had

every reason to suspect that the marriage certificate was bought from someone else.

“Miss Woland—I mean, Young Madam Knight, this is yours.” Caleb either misunderstood Alice’s

intention or intentionally did what he did as he placed the marriage certificate in front of her.

He even addressed her as Young Madam Knight!

Alice stared at the marriage certificate in front of her. She knew that everything had already been

decided, and there was no way to change it, at least not with her current ability.

She didn’t touch the marriage certificate. She looked away from it, and with what she believed to be her

most perfect smile, she looked at Ethan and asked, “Mr. Knight, do you know why you have never been

in a relationship, even at this age?”

Since it was impossible to reason with him and there was nothing left to discuss, she had nothing to be

afraid of.

She had lost her dignity, and there was nothing left to lose. She couldn’t just swallow her anger like

this.

She was not the kind of person who would endure this kind of treatment in silence!

Caleb was shocked. He had been by Ethan’s side for so many years, and no one had ever dared to

speak to him like that, let alone call him old.

She’s implying that Mr. Knight is old, isn’t she?! To have the guts to say such a thing, she’s indeed

impressive, Caleb thought.

“Why?” Ethan’s eyebrow lifted slightly. Is she calling me old?

Alice was throwing caution to the wind by openly provoking him like this!

He wasn’t sure whether he should praise her for her courage or criticize her for her mindlessness.

“Mr. Knight, you’re definitely single by choice,” she said with a smile. However, if one had listened

closely, one would have heard the hint of resentment in her voice.

Who would ever want to date someone as cold and expressionless as him? Not only does he have

terrible communication skills, but he is also sharp-tongued. Whoever falls for him must be blind, she

thought.

Ethan glanced at her, after which his slender fingers reached for the marriage certificate before him and

lightly tapped on it. “I’m married.”

After saying that, he even intentionally glanced at the marriage certificate!

Alice was speechless. She looked at him for a long time but didn’t say anything.

She wanted to dig her own eyes out!

Out of the blue, she was invited here to have a meal, and now, she had mysteriously become a married

woman.

Not only that, but she had to endure all this vexation yet with no way to vent it out.

On the other hand, Ethan seemed to be in a good mood. He had noticed something—the woman

before him had quite the patience. Although exasperated, she didn’t let it show or do anything extreme.

Such composure required regular cultivation, sufficient calmness, and rationality!

This woman sure is something else.

Alice took a deep breath. She exhaled and inhaled again but still felt short of breath.

She was angry, but she couldn’t beat the man up as she had no chance of winning against him,

anyway.

And that infuriated her further!

She looked at him and could feel her insides burning in fury. So, she decided to turn her anger into

appetite.

Under his gaze, she began to eat slowly and steadily.

Although she was doing it at a slow pace, the movements in her hand never stopped.

More than an hour had passed, and she had eaten a fair bit of food.

Ethan sat right across from her, and his expression remained unchanged. However, his gaze fixed on

Alice as he wondered how she had eaten a lot yet never seemed to gain weight. His eyes then lingered

on her ample chest for a moment. Hmm, at least her chest isn’t flat.

The people around Ethan were shocked. They looked at Alice and wondered how she could eat so

much yet maintain such a slim figure. She was too good at eating. Most people would probably be

broke if they were to provide her with food.

Caleb was bewildered by something else, though. Mr. Knight has been waiting over an hour for Miss

Woland to finish eating! What’s the meaning of this?

Ethan might be here for Caroline’s matter, but there were many ways to handle it.

However, never in his wildest dream had Caleb expected Ethan to have chosen the way he hated the

most in dealing with things, which was wasting time.

Eventually, Alice couldn’t eat anymore. Her anger had finally dissipated after she had stuffed herself

with food.

She put down her fork and spoon before looking at Ethan. She did not expect he would wait for her for

over an hour.

Although this matter was a bit sudden, she had already thought things through in that short period. She

remembered that when she wanted to search for Caroline’s relatives in the past, she almost got killed

by those fierce and vicious people. Those people were not ordinary at all.

Ethan married her to protect Caroline, and she was willing to cooperate with him if that was the case.

Since things had come to this point, she figured she should tell the man about some things related to

Caroline.

“Although I didn’t know Caroline’s identity and who her parents were, I knew that they gave their all to

protect Caroline in their last moments. And I didn’t hide this from Caroline, either. Since she was

sensible, I told her I am not her biological mother.”

Alice had experienced a car accident herself, and her parents also gave everything to protect her in

their last moments of life. She would never forget all of this.

Caroline’s parents had left this world at such a young age. However, they should not be forgotten by

everyone, especially Caroline, whom they protected at all costs.

Alice also loved Caroline very much, but she did not want to and could not fully replace Caroline’s

biological father.

Therefore, as Caroline grew older, Alice told her that her beloved biological parents loved her and

protected her at all costs in their last moments of life. So, she should live a happier life.

Alice didn’t tell Caroline about the cruel part of the story since Alice didn’t want the girl to remember the

hatred. She just wanted Caroline to remember the love she had received. Alice believed that the girl’s

parents would also hope so.

“I see,” Ethan responded softly. Any parents wouldn’t wish their children to forget about them. He was

sure the same went for Caroline’s parents. “Tell me more about Caroline.”

“Caroline is very sensible, lively, and lovely. In fact, she is more enthusiastic and braver than most

children, and she adapts well. She should be able to adapt without a problem when she returns to the

Knight Family.” A smile tugged on Alice’s lips when she spoke of Caroline. It was a gentle smile filled

with affection and tolerance for the girl.

The man looked at her, and a glimmer of light flashed in his eyes. When she smiled, she still had a kind

of beauty that could touch a person’s soul, even with the scars covering her face.

She thought he wanted to hear more about Caroline, so she told him everything she could remember

about Caroline.

Three years of memories flashed before her eyes as she recalled those things. However, Caroline was

going to return to the Knight Family now, and if Alice left the family in the future, she would have to part

with Caroline.

Alice felt great reluctance as she thought of that, and her speech became slow. Her voice also became

softer, and her eyes filled with melancholy.

Ethan looked at her, and his eyes flickered. She was speaking with such passion and emotion. Women

were all emotional creatures; they wore their hearts on their sleeves. Once they got emotional, their

feelings would cloud their judgment.

If he were to ask her some questions at this moment, she would most certainly be caught off guard.
