Chapter 109
Ethan’s Vengeance of Love
Caleb froze for a moment and then increased his driving speed.
Meanwhile inside the Woland Residenceâs study.
Three rounds of chess later, James was looking at Alice with disbelief.
He loved chess and had been studying it since he was young, and he had a talent for it. Since he
turned eighteen, he had never lost when competing with others. It could be said that he had never lost
a game of chess.
Of course, his opponents had various skills, but if he were born into this generation and joined
competitions, he would win prizes.
However, he lost to a young woman today, and he lost three rounds in a row.
In all three rounds, he had lost by one move, and it was that reason that made him even more shocked.
The young woman seemed to have the ability to read his thoughts and knew all his moves so that she
could win by only one move.
As if winning him wasnât hard enough, she could even maintain such a highly skilled win every time.
How could James not be shocked and amazed by that?
No wonder she behaved so arrogantly just now. It was because she does have the capability to support
her arrogance. Hmm, this girl isnât as simple as I thought sheâd be.
âOld Mr. Rowland, I won.â Alice looked at James, grinning without any trace of being modest.
Actually, Alice also had a deep knowledge of chess and was talented in psychology as well. That was
how she won against James.
While looking at Aliceâs behavior, James was initially taken aback, followed by smiling.
The young womanâs personality was beginning to grow on him. She wasnât pretentious or hypocritical,
and she didnât flatter others. Also, she was as arrogant as a person could be, which made him like her
even more.
It was a pity he wasnât lucky to have a granddaughter like Alice.
Also, he had just lost, which meant this marriage would be canceled. He had just lost his grandsonâs
chance to marry this young woman.
Before this, he had absolute confidence that he would win and thought this marriage was confirmed,
and the young lady even said she was willing to get married tomorrow. He was prepared to win the
game and let them get their marriage certificates the next day to avoid any unexpected events!
However, he didnât anticipate he would lose!
But Alice had previously said to let them settle their own matters, so she didnât fully reject the proposal.
Now, it was up to Keith, and James hoped Keith could work harder and marry Alice. If Keith succeeded,
he would be a lucky man, and the entire Rowland Family would prosper. It was now down to whether
Keith could do it.
âYou won. You earned it fair and square. This is the first time Iâve accepted the fact that I lost.â Jamesâ
personality was that he never submitted to defeat, but not this time.
âWin or lose doesnât matter. What matters is the process.â Seeing the situation, Alice thought it would
be appropriate for her to comfort James slightly.
âYou say it like itâs easy. How could it not matter? If I won, I was planning to let you and Keith get
married tomorrow. Now thatâs all just wishful thinking.â When James thought of that, he felt depressed.
He discovered that he had fallen into Aliceâs traps and felt remorseful. If he hadnât agreed to the bet, he
would have settled their engagement today, even if it meant he had to shamelessly beg the other party.
In the meantime, Alice was shocked because she didnât expect James would have such a thought. It
was lucky that she won.
âAlice, Keith is not a bad guy. Think about it. The Rowland Family is a democratic family, so you
wouldnât suffer any maltreatment after marrying Keith.â James desperately wanted Alice to change her
mind.â
âAre you sure? I think Mrs. Rowland is quite scared of you.â Alice pouted, showing her disagreement
with his words. She found chatting with James quite amusing and became more casual with him.
âSheâs afraid of me because she has a timid personality, not because sheâs being ill-treated. Would you
be afraid of me if you marry into the Rowland Family?â James frowned slightly but didnât show too
much emotion.
After he finished, Alice didnât retort because she wouldnât be afraid of James. Though he seemed
fierce, he was actually a very nice person.
âOld Mr. Rowland, I still have some things to do, so I must leave. Excuse me for not being able to stay
and have a meal with you.â
Since the matter was settled, Alice didnât want to stay here any longer as she didnât want to see the
faces of the other Wolands.
As for Charles, his attitude was calm today, and he didnât react much to this matter, so she couldnât see
through him.
Though Charles had never done anything to hurt her, he hadnât helped her either throughout these
seven years.
She had long stopped hoping to get any attention from her family, so whenever she had to face
Charles, the most she would do was be polite to him. It was impossible for her to trust him, let alone
rely on him fully.
âYou, young lady, are being too petty. Donât you think so?â James gave her a disappointed glare. âYou
may leave if you want, but you have to play another round of chess with me. Iâll let you decide on the
time because you youngsters are always busy, but Iâm always free.â James really liked Alice, so he
hoped they could meet again and give his grandson some more opportunities.
âSure.â It was quite hard for Alice to continue rejecting Jamesâ request.
âGrandpa, what happened?â Keith had been waiting outside for a long time. When he saw the two
come out, he quickly approached them, obviously looking anxious.
âCome on. Letâs go home.â After giving Keith a look, James secretly shook his head.
âWhat? Go home? Whatâs going on?â Keith was a little dumbfounded. His grandfather came full of
vigor, but why did he suddenly want to go home after a few rounds of chess?
âYou youngsters can deal with your matters on your own. I wonât meddle in your business.â James
naturally wouldnât tell Keith that he lost to Alice and couldnât help him propose to a marriage with her
any longer.
âGrandpa, your attitude changed too quickly. Did something happen? Donât tell me you fell for her
tricks?â Keith knew Alice wasnât like what she was rumored to be. On the contrary, she was intelligent
and witty. Also, he knew James well and could guess what had happened.
âYou brat, watch your words. What do you mean by falling for her tricks? Alice is such a sensible child.
Do you think she would trick an old man like me? I just think that you guys can take care of yourselves,
and there are some things an old man like me shouldnât be interfering too much with.â While he spoke,
he gave Keith a dead stare.
The words James said had slightly implicated Alice as well. Didnât I just fall for her tricks?! Didnât that
young lady just trick me? Alas, I was too confident that I underestimated her. I wouldnât have agreed to
her conditions if I had known she was so great at chess.
âSo, you only found that out today?â Keith snorted, clearly not believing in Jamesâ words. That was not
what James said when urging him to get married sooner.
