Chapter 101

Ethan’s Vengeance of Love

Well, so how did Ethan find out about Keith’s proposal? Keith and Alice were the only two people in the

room then. However, they were actually being spied on. “Were you the one who spied on Keith and me

at the club earlier today?” This was the first thought that popped up into Alice’s mind, and it made

sense for her to make this assumption.

Ethan didn’t deny it—although Chris was the one who had been spying on them, Ethan overheard what

they said as well. “That doesn’t seem right. I didn’t expect you to be someone who would have the free

time to do such disrespectful things.” Alice corrected herself after thinking about it for a while more. “It

was Chris, wasn’t it?” she asked with a chuckle.

Although she phrased her sentence as a question, there was a hint of certainty in her voice—it was as

if she already knew the answer. “Chris was the one who spied on us, and then he told you about it.”

Ethan curled his lips into a smirk upon hearing her words. Who said she’s silly? Who said she’s dumb?

I only said one sentence, and she figured the whole truth out in a matter of seconds.

When Ethan first asked that question, he had already expected her to guess that she had been spied

upon. However, she even managed to guess that Chris was the one who spied on them before

reporting to Ethan. She sure is witty! She got it really quickly, too. She knows that I wouldn’t engage in

such a pointless, disrespectful act. Ethan was rather pleased by what she said. It seems like she knows

me pretty well, he thought. He was glad to know this.

“Why did Chris have to eavesdrop and tell you about all of this? Doesn’t he have better things to do?”

Alice asked. Ethan wasn’t as pleased after hearing this. It might have been wrong for Chris to spy on

them, but since Chris found out that Alice was with Keith and that Keith had proposed to her, wouldn’t it

only make sense for Chris to tell him about it?

“You didn’t reject Keith when he proposed to you,” Ethan uttered in a hushed and grim tone. Alice had

technically rejected him, but her rejection seemed somewhat flimsy and uncertain. Furthermore, she

even commented on how Keith had good qualities—that practically sounded like she was accepting his

proposal. So, Ethan wasn’t wrongfully accusing her.

“So, what?” Alice eyed the man puzzledly. “What are you trying to say?” Alice and Ethan’s marriage

was merely an agreement. We are going to get a divorce in six months, so shouldn’t we just mind our

own business? Anyway, I already rejected Keith’s proposal. I only commented on Keith’s qualities

because I was reminded of what happened that night seven years ago. When I wanted to clarify things

a little more, Keith realized that we were being spied on, so I didn’t get a chance to reject him properly.

Chris is the one at fault here!

Ethan felt a tight sensation in his chest that seemed to weigh down upon him. “It seems like you really

don’t know where you stand, Alice.” Once more, Ethan felt like his marriage was just giving Alice a

chance to infuriate him.

Alice blinked in confusion. Do I need to know where I stand? This is just a marriage on paper, and it’ll

only last for six months. Do I need to think of myself as another man’s wife? Of course, Alice didn’t

have any plans of doing anything that might ruin the Knight Family’s reputation during their marriage

period.

When Ethan saw the dazed look on the woman’s face, he felt an ache in his chest. All of a sudden, he

reached his hand out and held the back of her neck before applying some pressure to pull her closer to

him. Then, he bent down to get closer to her. “Alice, I think I’ll have to use my actions to help you

understand the situation a little better…”

Ethan’s flawless features seemed to enlarge in Alice’s field of vision as the man edged closer and

closer toward her. Their faces were so close that they could feel each other’s breaths on their skin.

They were in a rather intimate position, and the atmosphere around them felt almost romantic.

However, when Alice felt the pressure of the man’s hand against her neck, she didn’t think that he was

trying to seduce her. “Let’s not get violent here, Mr. Knight,” she uttered instead. He’s not going to beat

me up, is he? I don’t think he’s the sort of person who would lay hands on a woman. I bet he’s just

scaring me.

Ethan was rather stunned by her statement. “Fine. Let’s not get violent,” he uttered with a slight laugh.

The thought of violence hadn’t even crossed his mind—if anything, he only thought of kissing her.

Ethan let out a deep, charming laugh as he moved his face a little closer to hers. Their lips were so

close that they were nearly touching.

Alice blinked a few times as she gazed at the man. He had good looks that could catch anyone’s eyes

and an attractive voice that could melt hearts. His laugh was especially contagious, and any woman

would find herself falling for him upon hearing it. However, Alice wasn’t the least bit drawn to him.

What’s Mr. Knight trying to do? Is he going to kiss me? No, that’s impossible. He only married me

because of Caroline, and he only signed a contract for a six-month marriage. Furthermore, my looks

are ‘destroyed’ now. I bet he’s just trying to scare me. Well, with his hand against the back of my neck, I

do feel rather intimidated. My skin is tingling with fear, and my heart is pounding. If he applies a little

more pressure, he might even be able to break my neck, Alice thought.

At that moment, a noise came from the stairway. Alice turned around to see Rosy staring at them with a

dumbfounded look on her face. Rosy had gone downstairs to take something earlier, and she had just

reached the landing of the second floor when she saw them. Alice didn’t feel embarrassed or nervous

at all. She simply pulled Ethan’s hand away from her neck before letting out a lighthearted chuckle.

“Goodnight, Mr. Knight.” Then, she turned around and walked back into Caroline’s room.

“What are you doing, Mom?” Ethan didn’t stop Alice as he didn’t want to make things awkward for her.

“I went downstairs to grab some stuff.” Rosy blinked a few more times. Was I seeing things just now?

Did Ethan try to kiss Alice? Have they progressed to that stage already? Rosy felt rather conflicted at

that moment.

Ethan let out a slight sigh. Initially, he had hopes of cuddling his wife to sleep that night, but his

mother’s appearance had ruined everything. I can’t believe my own mother would do this to me! Ethan

turned and gazed at the closed door beside him. I guess I’ll have the whole bed to myself again.

At 7.00AM at Rowland Residence, James glared at Keith, who had just gotten home. “You… Look at

you! What are you doing?! What time is it? Did you just come back? Where did you go to fool around

this time?” The old man was fuming. Keith had already gotten used to it at this point—he completely

ignored the man. He even stretched his limbs and yawned before walking off to his room.

“Stand right there! You’re almost 30 now, yet you don’t have a proper career or a family. You should’ve

just stayed in the force. Look at what you’re doing right now!” James stomped his foot in rage.

“Calm down, Dad. Don’t get mad. You have high blood pressure.” Keith’s mother, Lindsay Stone,

widened her eyes in shock. However, Keith continued to ignore them. He looked like he didn’t take any

of them seriously. Of course, none of them knew that he had only left the force because he had more

important matters to handle. Few really knew what he was up to then—even his family didn’t know

much about it.

His job was a rather unique one, and he had to keep it private and confidential.

“How am I supposed to remain calm? Look at him. Didn’t I tell you to find him a good woman and to get

him married? Why haven’t I received any updates? Are you even capable of anything?” James was

especially harsh since he was angry.

“I’ve tried my best, but Keith refuses to meet any of them. What am I supposed to do?” Lindsay was

just as eager to see her son married, but Keith didn’t agree to any dates, and she couldn’t possibly

kidnap him and send him to meet someone.

Right then, Keith halted his footsteps and turned around to look at the two people. He curled his lips

into a smirk. “I don’t mind getting married if you guys approach the Wolands to propose a marriage.”

Keith had already decided that he was going to marry Alice, and he had already proposed to her. He

was certain that she would have agreed to his proposal if they hadn’t been spied on. Unfortunately, he

didn’t get to ask her any more questions after they found out someone was monitoring them. I’m sure

she would have said yes, he thought.
