Chapter 14

Good Morning

Infinity

Soren

I fucked up! I know I did. I wasn’t supposed to let her get to me. I was supposed to be stronger than I was.

Bottom fucking line, I shouldn’t have gone to the club last night. I should have waited for her to come home like always.

But I’m fucking weak when it comes to my beautiful Lux, and so I went.

Let me just say that when I saw her grinding her perfect ass on that human’s fucking crotch, I damn near lost control of my wolf and killed him.

The thirst for his blood was so strong that I knew the only way to calm my wolf down was to touch our mate. So with a shove, I clasped my hands on her hips.

Lying here in my bed, I can’t stop the image of her body cumming on my finger out of my mind. The smell of her need for me suffocating every brain cell I like to believe I have.

I was so turned on. So fucking ready to just fuck her right there. To end this torment I’m forced to have us both living.

A ring sounds next to me as my phone goes off, effectively pulling me from my thoughts. My brother’s name lights up on the screen.

“Yes, Dev, I’m coming in,” I huff out as an answer.

“Well, I was actually calling you because Gracie said her first word last night,” my brother’s voice comes out overjoyed and so proud.

His happiness with his mate and baby girl makes me crave to have that connection with my own.

But Devlin got lucky. His mate just happened to be human. And so his wolf’s desires are different from mine.

Sitting up, I can’t help the curiosity about my little princess. “What did she say?”

Hearing my phone beep, I pull it from my ear, seeing he switched it to video chat. Looking at the screen and the back of my brother’s head, I see and hear him trying to wrangle the little half-breed.

I can’t help but laugh once she’s on his lap. She’s bouncing everywhere. My laugh catches her attention. Once those big green eyes catch mine, a giant toothy grin melts on her face.

“SoSo!!!! SoSo!!” Gracie squeals at the top of her lungs while putting both her hands out, clapping them against her palms like I could just reach into the phone and pick her up.

“Hi Gracie! How’s Uncle Soren’s princess today!” My voice comes out just as proud as Devlin’s had a moment ago.

Everyone is so used to the dada, mama race to be the first word…but take that, suckers, mine was Gracie’s!

The one-year-old’s frustration at me not picking her up shows on her face when she wrinkles her nose, pouting out her precious little bottom lip.

“SoSo will come see you later, princess, I promise.” At that Devlin kisses her head then sets her on the floor, the sound of her little feet patting along the floor as she runs off the only sound in the room.

After a few minutes Devlin clears his throat. Looking back up at my phone, I see the worry on his face. “I wanted to call and bitch at you for hijacking my daughter’s first words.”

I can’t help but laugh. “Not my fault she likes me more than both of you.” He just scoffs at my statement.

“Now, other than to show me that beautiful princess, what did you need?”

“Can’t I just call you and check in?”

“No, because you’re a needy bitch,” I say while rolling my eyes. Devlin just laughs at my irritation.

“Just tell me who I have to kill, Devlin, and get on with it.”

Devlin runs down the list of supernaturals I’m supposed to handle today. He’s calm the whole time as he reads off a list of at least one hundred and fifty people.

Once he hits the last name, he takes a deep breath.

My brothers and I don’t mind what we do. Hell, we’ve been doing it for hundreds of years. However, it seems as of lately that the number is at an all-time high. The past three days alone the list has reached well over seven hundred supernaturals.

I’m pulled from my thoughts when Devlin clears his throat again. “She’s not on the list today.” His tone is even, but I can hear the relief in his statement.

Since the day I found my Lux, I’ve checked the death list every day, making sure her name is not on it.

I’ve seen her parents’ names on it before, but they’ve always pulled through right before I got to them… I may or may not have purposely gone slower on those days.

Being on the list can change throughout the day. I was always relieved when their names vanished.

“How is she? Your Zayla?”

I can’t help but rub the back of my neck.

“What did you do, Soren?” He’s curious but his tone is pissy. Rubbing my hand down my face, I can’t keep the uneasiness from my tone.

“I fucked up! I just got so jealous, I don’t know what came over me.”

“And again, what did you do, Soren!”

“I marked her.” Shame is laced in my tone while gasps are heard on his end before he yells at me.

“Are you fucking kidding me, Soren?! You’ll kill her!”

“No I won’t, Devlin! I’ll just avoid her until it’s gone.”

He laughs at my lack of conviction. It’s bitter and forced, but it’s a laugh nonetheless. “Bullshit, Soren, you’ve been saying you’ll avoid her since she was…what? Like, six months old?”

“Something like that,” I sigh.

“Something like that,” he mocks while making finger quotes. “Not something like that, Soren! You know damn well how long it’s been!”

He’s right, I do, and since that day, I’ve been saying the same shit.

~I’ll just avoid her.~

I never do. Because I honestly never can.

“I’ll have to try. I won’t let my wolf hurt her.” I can’t keep the sadness from my tone.

“Maybe you should come home for a few days. I know you want to make sure she’s okay, but we can watch the list.”

“I’ll think about it.”

“Alright, well, your house is still here if you need it.”

Chuckling at his words, he rolls his eyes at me. “Yeah, I’d sure hope it is, you know, considering we all run it together.”

“Whatever, smartass, you know what I meant!”

“Yeah, yeah! Love you too, little bro. Enjoy Purgatory.”

Hanging up the phone, I hop in the shower, mulling over Devlin’s offer. Maybe I should go home for a few days. The mark should last about a week, and once it’s gone things can go back to normal.

My wolf’s frustration at my thoughts has me almost shifting in the shower, his need to fully claim her stronger than ever.

If only she was human… Fuck, why couldn’t she be human! It would save us a whole-ass mess of heartache.

After getting dressed, I shut everything down and walked out of my house. It’s sitting right on the pack line, but the house is warded so only my brothers and I can see it.

Which makes it nice when you’re trying to go unseen. Heading off, I make my way to my first job.

I have one hundred and fifty people to kill today, and I plan to kill them quickly…

Well, a few of them.

Some of these pieces of shit will die slowly. Yeah, I plan to take my time pulling them apart…

But what do they expect when they fuck with the fates?

I mean, they do call me Death, after all.
