Chapter 895 Unexpected Encounter Nicole didn’t care about Elisa’s work; she was just being polite and trying to find a topic.

She nodded in reply. Judging by Elisa’s lukewarm response, she knew Elisa wanted to draw a line between them. They could never be friends.

It was undeniable that being friends with each other would be awkward.

Nicole liked Gareth for a long time, while Elisa was his ex-wife, who was still entangled with him.

Nicole attempted to control the conflicted feelings within her as she spoke, “I just want to have a casual chat. I won’t pry into your work, so you don’t have to be so defensive.”

Elisa arched her eyebrow upon hearing that. “I know you have always been quite clear between work and personal life, and I never intended to be defensive.”

Elisa had no clue what Nicole was planning. Nevertheless, she never trusted her and put her guard up.

Nicole heaved a sigh. “I would like to know more about your personal life, actually. What is the relationship between you and Gareth?”

“He’s my boss, that’s all.”

Since she wants to ask about my personal stuff, it must be related to Gareth.

“That’s all?” she repeated after hearing Elisa’s crisp reply, as though she wanted to know more. It was different from her usual calm and collected demeanor.

Elisa raised her chin and looked at her. “What else?”

Her fair question rendered Nicole speechless.

In the next moment, she chuckled. “I’m sorry. It’s just that I like him a lot, so I can’t help myself.”

Elisa gave a slight nod. It’s none of my business, though.

Nicole clenched her right fist under the table before loosening it. Looking back at Elisa, she smiled, “It seems like Gareth’s grandmother likes you a lot. Has she been pushing for you guys to reconcile?”

Though Nicole phrased it nonchalantly, her entire body was tense. Elisa smiled at her before replying, “Regarding Gareth and I...” She paused. “Your family business started in the media industry. Even though you guys have pivoted, you are still the leading force. I’m sure you know the truth behind the online rumors.”

With that, she was implying that the rumors about Gareth sleeping with her and him having a high sex drive were falsely exaggerated.

“Is that so?” Nicole laughed, not revealing if she trusted Elisa. It was unclear if her question was rhetorical.

Regardless, Elisa had no intention of explaining herself.

As Nicole was about to say something, the waiter brought the food.

Elisa appraised her before saying, “There’s nothing to know here. I won’t go back to him after the divorce. You shouldn’t waste your effort on me. On top of that, everyone knows Old Mr. Wickam likes you a lot.”
