Chapter 364
Changing Only For Her
âNot yet.â Sophie considered Jipsdale University but was still unsure if that was what she wanted.
âItâs okay. You can think about it first since we have time.â There was no point in hurrying.â
âOkay.â
Since the homeroom teacher had phoned several times, Sophie decided to head to school and go straight to his office. âWhatâs up, Teach? Is there something you want to talk about?â
âHereâs a form for you; itâs a recommendation. Are you interested?â
âTo which university am I recommended for admission?â
âJipsdale University!â
The school was only provided with one opening, and the principal decided to offer it to Sophie.
âIâm not interested.â Since Sophie knew she was capable of qualifying for the university, it was only natural that she would sit for the university entrance exam.
âWhat? Are you sure? You donât have to make up your mind now, Sophie. Think about it or discuss it with your family first,â advised the teacher because of how rare the opportunity was.
âOkay.â Sophie said nothing else but returned to her class instead.
âDo you know why Teach wanted to see Sophie?â
âI heard it was because of the recommendation. As the top student in our school, Sophie will no doubt be the one to get it.â
âIâm so jealous! We had to try our hardest just to get a chance to be enrolled in the university, while she made it look like a walk in the park. How can life be so unfair?â
âGive me a break. Stop complaining, will you? Iâm sure youâd get recommended too if you were the number one student in our school. Since thatâs not the case, there really isnât any point in complaining, is there?â
It was every studentâs dream to get recommended, but not everyone was qualified for such a privilege.
âYou sure sound fine with it.â
âWhy shouldnât I? If not Sophie, somebody from Senior Class 1 would surely get recommended instead; at least Sophieâs one of us. I donât see any problem with that,â stated one of Sophieâs classmates, who had always disliked those from Senior Class 1 for looking down on them. What I wouldnât give to see the looks on their faces when they learn that it was one of us who got the recommendation!
âYouâre right. They like to think theyâre better than us, so letâs see how they like it when we prove them wrong.â
Meanwhile, the students of Senior Class 1 were also discussing the recommendation when one of them suddenly ran in and announced on the podium, âDo you guys know who just got recommended?
It was Sophie Tanner of Senior Class 8.â
Willowâs heart almost skipped a beat when she heard the name. Why does Sophie always seem to get whatever others desire without breaking a sweat?
âWhat? Howâs that possible? It shouldâve been one of us, so how did someone from Senior Class 8 get recommended instead?â questioned one of Willowâs classmates. Weâre better than those in Senior Class 8, arenât we?
âHow can the school be so unfair? Something about this smells fishy.â
Bailey could not help but chuckle when he heard the other students. âWhat makes you think youâre qualified to say something like that? Sophie got the highest score on the exam, so what right do you have to compare yourselves to her?â Thereâs no one in the school more qualified to get the recommendation than Sophie.
When the others saw that Bailey, the student who scored the second highest, had no problem with the schoolâs decision, they immediately ceased the discussion.
After all, it was not as though they would be next in line even if Sophie were to give up the recommendation.
After glancing at Bailey, Willow packed her things and took a leave of absence to go home.
She had been feeling unwell from the moment she heard the news.
Ysabelle immediately approached Sophie when her classmate returned to class.
âYou got recommended for admission to Jipsdale University?â
âYeah.â
Right after hearing that, Ysabelle leaped for joy.
âYouâre awesome, Sophie! Iâve never met anyone as impressive as you are. How are you so calm right now? Do you know how many of us dream of going to Jipsdale University?â
âWhat sort of reaction are you expecting from me, exactly?â
To that question, Ysabelle responded by shaking her head. âForget it. Youâve always been collected.â
âI donât plan to accept the recommendation.â
âWhy?â questioned Ysabelle with a face full of bafflement. Itâs such a great opportunity! Why would anyone say no to it?
âYou could be sunbathing on the beach while others sit for the university entrance exam! Donât you want that?â Ysabelle did not understand why her classmate would want to take the exam like everyone else.
âIâve worked so hard to prepare for the exam, so, of course, Iâm taking it. Otherwise, I wouldâve wasted my effort, wouldnât I?â
âDid you really work hard, though?â
Ysabelle was sure that Sophie could complete tests meant for postgraduates already. Compared to her, we probably look like kindergarteners.
âWhat does that mean? Of course, I did.â Being questioned like that, Sophie could not help but wonder if she had not put in enough effort.
âForget it. Itâs not as if Iâll ever understand what itâs like to be a top student.â Ysabelle thought she should just get back to the grind.
That evening, Sophie had dinner with Josiah, who was thrilled when he heard about the recommendation.
âJipsdale University is the absolute best in Chanaea, so I hope you consider enrolling in it.â
âIâm not, Grandpa.â
Even Morgan was stunned when he heard Sophieâs response. âThis is a great opportunity, Ms. Sophie.
Why would you want to give it up? Many students in Chanaea would do anything to enter the university.â
âI want to take the university entrance exam first. That way, Iâll have more options.â
Willow boiled with anger as she listened to the conversation.
âOkay. Whatever makes you happy. Even if you sit for the exam, Iâm confident youâll qualify for Jipsdale University anyway,â stated Josiah. Either way, Sophie can enroll in the university if she wants to.
Charmaine had an idea when she learned of the opportunity Sophie was offered.
âSoph, since youâre not going to accept the recommendation, why not let Willow have it?â The mother was thinking even if Willow planned to join the entertainment industry, her daughter could be an artist with an impressive educational background as a graduate of Jipsdale University.
Willow immediately got excited when she heard her mother, for it would be difficult for her to enter the university with her ability.
âWhat?â inquired Sophie with an eyebrow raised. What does that mean?
âCharmaine, the school will recommend somebody else if Sophie doesnât accept. She canât just pass the recommendation to anyone,â voiced Josiah, who did not think Willow would qualify for Jipsdale University.
âDad, Iâm just trying to help Willow!â Charmaine did not think she was wrong for making the suggestion since Sophie would not accept the recommendation anyway.
Naturally, Willow felt aggrieved as well.
âYouâre all biased against me! I donât even know what I did wrong to deserve this.â With that, Willow turned around and went upstairs.
Meanwhile, Sophie and Josiah exchanged looks, unsure what trick Willow was trying to pull then.
When Sophie walked out of the Tanner residence, the ring on her ring finger began to emit a strange light once again.
However, Sophie simply glanced at the ring and ignored it. What is Nicholas up to this time?
