Chapter Three

I fixed my hair in the mirror & danced around to the music that was playing from the living room.

"Yo Maya turn that down" Jay said from his bedroom.

I smiled running in the living room turning the music off.

"What the hell you so happy for?" He asked coming in the living room where Cliff was rolling some weed.

"Ms. Thing got her some last night" Cliff said smiling.

"Cliff" I said hitting his arm.

"With who?" Jason asked.

"Umm someone" Just then a knock came on the door.

"Come in" I said knowing it was Jax my brother's  & I best friend since middle school.

She walked in with drinks & pizza, "Hey y'all"

"Hey girl I see you got my favorite" I said walking over hugging her.

"Hold up just yesterday you was depressed now you are so happy what happened?" She asked

I walked over to the couch sitting down with a smile on my face.

"She got laid" Cliff & Jason said at the same time

"You got laid?"

I nodded, "Yes I got laid"

Jax sighed confused about what I was saying, "Wait I thought you weren't seeing anyone?"

"Well I went to Ginny's last night just for a drink then I was going to come home & go to sleep but then I looked up & saw her, she was bad right Cliff?"

"Ooh child ms. Thang had it going on her body was banging" Cliff said rolling another blunt.

I smiled thinking about Honey's body, "So your dating her now"

"Naw I dont even really know her name" I said seriously.

"Well baby sis at least you got some" Jason said hitting my arm & getting up walking over to the pizza.

"Let's eat y'all come on"

"I can't actually I have two clients then we are meeting at my promotion party right?" I asked them grabbing my coat.

"Yeah don't forget my family is coming you know they got some big bucks maybe they want to invest in the practice your trying to get"

"Thanks Jax your the best I love you" I said hugging her & kissing her cheek.

"Alright bye y'all dont forget 7:00" I said & headed out.

It felt so good to get a promotion but I always wanted my own practice working for other people is fine but eventually I wanted something to call my own.

As I was at work my mind drifted back to the night before & how much my body really needed that release Honey is such a mystery & I liked that about her but why wouldn't she tell me who she really was.

After work I changed my clothes & headed over to the space that my party was at, I was only at that this job for a year & already got a promotion I didn't want the party but my friends want to give me one.

"Girl there a lot of cuties in here" Paula said causing her husband Johnny to hit her arm.

"Baby you know I am kidding" Paula said smiling at her husband.

"Yeah I bet yo Maya I am proud of you" Johnny said

"Thanks you know me just trying to make it"

Jason & Cliff walked over joining in the conversation as we talked small talk.

"You seem really happy today does it have something to do with the mystery lady?" Cliff asked sipping on his drink

"No actually I am-"

"Hey Maya these are my parents" I heard Jax say from behind me & When I turned around my heart fell to my stomach.

"These are my parents Valerie & Drew Davis."

Honey & I stared at each other before she spoke, "it's A pleasure to meet you"

"You too" I said caught completely off guard.

"Drew Davis" The other woman said holding her hand out to shake & I shook it trying to put a smile on my face.

"Drew..." I trailed

"This is my Brother's Boyfriend Cliff" He spoke to them & Jax smiled at me

"Maya I was telling them about your business plan & how much money you would need to help start the company."

"Yeah I accept all the help I can get" I said looking at Honey or Valerie whatever her name is.

"Well good, you know a lot of people in the black community don't believe in therapy & honestly we desperately need it"

"Your absolutely right we need more of this & that's why I want to do something amazing for us especially black women we are all beautiful & we deserve to feel like someone is listening to us" I said glancing that the woman who was extremely quiet.

"Hey excuse me Maya we want to take some pictures with you" Paula said pulling me away.

"Sorry excuse me" I said walking away from them.

My mind was on thoughts of why Honey lied to me about who she was, I mean she did mention that she was divorcing her spouse but to me they look like an actual couple so it's confusing as hell.

The party was almost over & I wanted to talk to Honey so I decided to wait till she went to the bathroom & I followed her locking the door waiting for her to come out the stall.

Once she did we immediately locked eyes, "You look so good in that dress"

She ignored me walking up to sink washing her hands, "Say something" I sighed

She turned the water off & looked at me, "I didn't know you knew my daughter?"

"How was I suppose to know she was daughter, I didn't even know you had a daughter."

"You told me you were separated" She sighed

"I am, it's not what you think"

"It's not my business"

She looked down at the floor, my eyes roamed her body & honestly I wanted her right now but it wasn't the time.

"Why didn't you tell me your name is Valerie?"

"Because you couldn't know who I was Maya"

"Well I love the name it's beautiful just like you" I said biting my lip looking at her.

"This is all too much for me right now, what happened between us can never happen again."

"Well that's too bad" I said

"Maya" She whispered then hurried up walking away from me opening the door & leaving me standing there looking like a fool.
