Chapter 50
Retired Villainess Transmigrates into a Cannon Fodder
Xiao Han opened the file folder and handed it to her. âThis is my newest draft for our plan to take the Ye Familyâs brand name. It also has the bidding documents and some core content. Miss Chu, please take a look.â
Instead of taking it, she leaned on the chairâs armrest, drawing closer to him to read the documents. Xiao Han held the folder while she flipped the pages. Tension filled the room where only the sound of their breathing could be heard.
âItâs very good.â Chu Xiang nodded, then laughed. âI really like it.â
Xiao Han wasnât sure when exactly he had rested his arm on the back of Chu Xiangâs chair, but his posture when he set the document down on the table with his other hand made it seem like he was caging her in her chair.
He lowered his head closer to hers by a fraction, her breath fanning across his face. When he spoke, his voice was low and soft. âIâm honored that Miss Chu likes it.â
They slowly drew closer and closer to each other, and right when the distance between them nearly narrowed into non-existence, Chu Xiangâs phone rang.
She startled, accepting the call. âMom?â
Fang Qing laughed. âXiang Xiang, where are you? Your dadâs plane lands in a little over an hour. How about we go meet him at the airport, then eat a nice big dinner together?â
âDadâs coming back today?â Chu Xiang glanced at the expressionless Xiao Han, then laughed as well. âOkay, Iâll go to the company and pick you up, we can go to the airport together.â
âOkay, Iâll wait for you. Be careful on the road.â
âGot it, Mom.â
Chu Xiang smiled regretfully at Xiao Han. âSorry, family time. Iâll try Mr. Xiaoâs red wine sometime in the future, but Iâll be leaving now.â
Xiao Han fastened the buttons on his collar and stood. âIâll see you off.â
Chu Xiang picked up her bag and walked to the door. She turned around and smiled at Xiao Han. âMr. Xiao, I still donât understand some parts of our plan so letâs meet another time and have a meal together.â
âOkay.â Xiao Han leaned against the doorframe with his arms crossed over his chest, watching Chu Xiang as she entered the elevator without looking back.
He went to the counter and poured himself some red wine. He swirled the glass and tasted it before returning to the study. He then notified his secretaries to convene in a video conference, much to the anguish of the project group members.
Chu Xiang drove over to pick her mother up. When she happened to pass by a shop, she intentionally entered and changed into neat and fresh clothing and put the red dress into her bag.
Meanwhile, Chu Xiang stopped by a shop so she could buy and change into more modest clothes. She folded her red dress and put it in her bag.
Fang Qing, on the other hand, had meticulously dressed up, and looked extremely elegant and graceful. Chu Xiang smiled when she saw her. âMom, you look really beautiful today!â she praised. Â âEveryone says nothing beats being newlywed. Mom, have you been missing Dad for a long time already?â
âWeâre already an old married couple, I donât miss him.â But even though thatâs what Fang Qing said, once she entered the car, she opened her makeup mirror and fixed up her lipstick.
Chu Xiang laughed. âI predict that Iâll be the unwanted third guest. I shouldâve searched for something to do on my own today.â
âTwo people are called the world of husband and wife, three people are called a happy family.â After Fang Qing finished speaking, she noticed the red dress in Chu Xiangâs bag. âYou went shopping?â
âNo, I had a date so I dressed up a bit. However, once I received your call, I immediately came over.â
The casual way Chu Xiang answered made it sound like a joke, so Fang Qing didnât take it seriously either, thinking that it was just a girlsâ night out. After they picked up Chu Dongqi, the family went to the top floor of the tallest building in the city and enjoyed a candlelit dinner in an outdoor dining hall.
The warmth of the candlelight, the delicious food, the surrounding flower garden, and the violin all contributed to a beautiful evening. Through the railing, one could also see a panoramic view of the city.
Chu Xiang sighed. âThis place is perfect for a date, it has such a romantic atmosphere.â
