Chapter 2120
Madeline Crawford and Jeremy Whitman
Hannah looked at Madeline who approached her, and after a brief pause, she cried even harder now.
Madeline knelt slowly. âDonât cry.â
Through Hannahâs misty and teary eyes, she saw a clean handkerchief appearing in front of her.
âWipe your tears. Stop crying.â Madeline comforted, âIf someone who cares about you knows that youâre crying so hard now, they will definitely feel distressed.â
Upon hearing Madelineâs words, Hannah laughed self-mockingly and spoke slowly.
âIâve been the apple of my familyâs eyes since I was a child, and my parents regarded me as their treasure. Gradually, I became very proud and complacent. I went to Gray Manor to be a maid not because I wanted to be a maid, but to prove myself.â
As Hannah said that, she cried even harder.
Madeline squatted in front of Hannah, quietly and patiently listening to Hannah talk about the dissatisfaction and depression in her heart.
âSoon after that, I was able to prove myself because only exceptional girls could work as maids in Gray Manor. After being validated, I became more and more complacent.â
âSo, when you met Jeremy, you were confident that he would have a good impression of you, but things didnât go as you expected.â
Madeline stated what was in Hannahâs heart.
Hannah felt even more embarrassed; her pale face gradually showed a look of shame.
Somewhat annoyed, she clenched her fists. It was as if she resented what she had done all this time.
âEveline, â Hannah called Madelineâs name, lifted her eyes that had turned red from crying to look at Madeline. âEveline, why did you save me?â
âWhy do you ask such a silly question?â Jeremy asked in a low voice. âNo normal person would watch a life die in front of them and do nothing.â
Jeremyâs explanation made Hannah even more ashamed.
She lowered her head, and her cheeks were red and hot from shame.
âIâm so ashamed.â She laughed at herself. âHow could I do so many shameless things?â
âThere will be times when people will obstinately persist in going about things the wrong way. Itâs good that you thought it through.â Madeline placed the handkerchief in Hannahâs hand. âWipe your tears and look at the sky.â
Hannah was slightly stunned. She looked at the handkerchief in her hand and slowly lifted her hand to wipe her tears.
Without the tears blurring her vision, Hannah lifted her eyes to the sky.
The soft glow from the sunset fell on her warmly.
Suddenly, she felt that everything she had done before this was just a very humiliating farce.
âEveline, youâre right. I should feel lucky.â Hannah looked at Madeline. At this moment, there was no hatred that she previously had in her eyes. After she said that, she looked at Jeremy shamefully.
âMr. Whitman, you probably despise me, donât you? I kept thinking that youâll like me, and I thought something happened between us, but actually, nothing happened.â
The more Hannah said that, the more she felt ashamed to look at Jeremy. âI am so sorry, Mr.
Whitman.â
âYou donât need to overthink. I never had any feelings for you, and I never liked you. Plus, I wonât waste my emotions to hate you.â
Jeremyâs eyes looked sharp and overbearing. âYou should instead apologize to my wife.â
When Hannah heard that, she was stunned. She looked at Madeline, but after a long time, she did not apologize.
Madeline did not expect her to apologize anyway. When she saw that Hannah had already calmed down, she stood up.
