Chapter 1809
Madeline Crawford and Jeremy Whitman
Agitated, Shirley rejected Ada whose hand reached over to Shirleyâs mask.
Shirleyâs movement was swift as she caught hold of Adaâs right hand, but Ada quickly extended her left hand and forcibly snatched away Shirleyâs mask.
Ada immediately saw the scar on Shirleyâs face, and Adaâs eyes sparkled. She smiled evilly as she enjoyed her masterpiece.
She knew that Shirley, even now, was still unaware that it was Ada who disfigured her.
âOh my, whatâs wrong with your face? Why is there a slash mark on it? Is it because youâve offended so many people that someone came for payback, Shirley?â
Ada asked despite knowing the answer, and even put on an unusually astonished look.
Upon hearing Adaâs mockery, Shirley was suddenly unusually calm.
She stared at Ada, and the agitated feelings she was having earlier no longer existed.
Ada thought that Shirley was not speaking because Shirley was starting to think lowly of herself, and this eased Ada.
âShirley, you should have known earlier that a woman like you couldnât possibly be a part of the Gray family. Did you think that staying in the Gray family for a few years would make you a daughter-i n-law to the family as well? Dream on!â
Ada rolled her eyes at Shirley.
âJust look at you right now. Disfigured and paralyzed. Youâre no different from a stray dog. With your current looks, do you still think Carter would marry you? Dream on!â
âShirley, I advise you to leave quickly. Otherwise, youâd only humiliate yourself if Carter sees you in this ugly state!â
As Ada spoke, she threw the mask in her hand back to Shirley.
As she threw it, Shirley suddenly lifted her hand and grasped onto Adaâs wrist.
Ada glared at Shirley, feeling unsatisfied. âWhatâs wrong? Do you want to hit me? Do you even have the guts to hit me? Iâm Carterâs wife now. Iâm a viscountess, Shirley. If you dare lay a finger on me, Iâm afraid the other half of your face will be disfigured too!â
Ada fiercely and ruthlessly warned her.
Cathy, who had finished her call, saw the scene from afar and quickly ran over to Shirleyâs side.
She had no idea what was happening, but she could feel the obvious heat between them.
She wanted to advise Shirley to release her hand first, but she saw Shirley suddenly clenching onto Adaâs wrist, and Shirleyâs gaze became sterner.
âIt was you then,â Shirley said, staring at Ada.
Ada was stunned, and her eyes darted because of guilt.
âShirley, Iâm warning you. Let go of me this instant!
âHmph. Iâm truly a fool for not recognizing you back then.â Shirley smiled coldly and forcefully yanked Ada before her. âQuit the act. The scar on the back of your hand is the best evidence to prove that you were the one who disfigured me back then!
ââ¦.â Ada, not expecting Shirley to see through her merely because of the scar on the back of her hand, was dumbfounded.
Cathy too was astonished. âYou did this to her face, and you had even deliberately blamed it on Eveline. Youâre just too cruel.â
âWhat nonsense are you blabbering about?! â Of course, Ada insisted on denying it. She summoned all her strength; only then did she break free from Shirleyâs grip. Ada then ruthlessly threatened Shirley, âShirley, I have nothing to do with your disfigured face. You ending up paralyzed has nothing to do with me either. Youâd best watch your mouth! â
âWhatâs wrong? Are you scared that Iâll tell Carter? â Shirley smiled softly. âRest assured, I wonât tell him, but you remember my occupation, right? Since you have the guts to disfigure me, you better be careful in the coming days. Iâll use scientific means t o slowly rot your face each day. In the end, youâd be an ugly lady who no one dares to look at.â
ââ¦â When Ada heard this, her face went pale, and her eyes flashed with terror and insecurity.
She firmly believed that Shirley could do it.
