Chapter 1791
Madeline Crawford and Jeremy Whitman
Jeremyâs gaze then fell upon the little window on the door of the ward.
He looked into the ward and saw Madelineâs thin back.
Jeremy felt a pinch in his heart and immediately opened the door of the ward.
âA word of advice.â
Fabianâs voice came from behind Jeremy.
âShe might be agitated, and she also might not be able to recognize you. Best be mentally prepared.â
After hearing Fabianâs so-called advice, Jeremy gently closed the door.
He looked at Madeline, who was hugging her legs, curled up at the edge of the bed, as he slowly made his way toward her.
âItâs not me. I really didnât do such a thing. Jeremy, why wonât you believe meâ¦â
When Jeremy was halfway toward her, he suddenly heard Madeline muttering such a comment.
The words Madeline had spoken were like a sharp sword piercing straight into his heart.
His footsteps that were getting closer to her suddenly stopped on their own accord as he kept hearing Madeline muttering to herself continuously.
âYouâre the one who said that youâll marry me when I grow up. Why did you have to be so disgusted with me even when youâre not willing to marry me?
âWhy donât you believe me even once? Just only once will do.
âI only love you, Jeremy. Why do I have to pay such a price for loving you? Why do you believe anything Meredith says? Jeremy, whyâ¦â
Jeremy felt even more heartbroken when he heard it.
At that moment, he felt that he did not even have the right to approach Madeline.
The past he wished not to see slowly surged into his mind. Those were the scenes of him causing her harm.
âHow could you be so cruel, Jeremy Whitman. You truly were one cruel person back then. How cold-
hearted could you be to cruelly harm a lady who loved you this much?â
âLinnieâ¦â
Jeremy choked and his eyes reddened. Without him realizing it, he softly blurted Madelineâs name.
However, even though he said it softly, it was as if Madeline had heard it.
She stopped muttering and slowly turned around to look behind her.
The moment she locked eyes with Jeremy, Madelineâs eyes suddenly glowed.
âIt really wasnât me.â
She said softly, emphasizing that statement to Jeremy.
The moment Jeremy looked into Madelineâs helpless and hurtful eyes, Jeremy was at a loss for words.
He choked and his Adamâs apple moved as he made his way to Madeline again.
Her pale and devastated face seemed entirely different from back when they had separated at the airport.
Jeremy walked to the bedside and raised his hand toward Madelineâs face. âLinnie.â
Madeline paused when she heard it. She quickly tilted her head away, her eyes glinting in a way that she was putting up her guard.
âWho are you? I want to see Jeremy. Whereâs Jeremy? I want to see him.â
Jeremyâs outstretched hand suddenly froze in mid- air.
âLinnie, Iâm Jeremy. Donât you recognize me anymore?â
Madeline examined Jeremyâs appearance, then shook her head with a straight face. âYouâre not Jeremy. Jeremy wonât greet me that way. Heâd even feel disgusted with my name. How would he even call me Linnie? Who the hell are you? Why are you impersonating Jeremy? Did Meredith sent you here? What do you want?!â
Madelineâs attitudebecame more alert.
She staggered as she got up and tried to evade Jeremy, who was approaching her.
âWho the hell are you guys? Why wonât you guys let me out, preventing me from seeing Jeremy? It must be Meredith. She sent you guys here to keep an eye on me!â
