Chapter 1752
Madeline Crawford and Jeremy Whitman
Shirley sounded very decisive.
Carter seemed to be stumped for words for a while. Then, he tugged the corners of his lips.
âShirley, do you know what youâre saying?â
âI do. I know what I said,â Shirley answered slowly without even lifting her beautiful eyes. âIâve thought it through, and I wonât let you manipulate me like an idiot. We were just using each other anyway, Mr. Gray. You used me to reach your goals, and to be honest, I was also just using you.â
When Carter heard this answer, he felt as if he had heard a huge joke.
âYou were using me?â He scoffed and asked, âWhat were you using me for?â
âYou still canât tell what I was using you for?â Shirley asked. The corner of her red lip that looked slightly pale was lifted in a disdainful smile.
âThe first time I met you, I knew you could give me a life of luxury and the best education.
âI was just pretending to be pitiful to gain pity from you and Camille. I wanted you guys to keep me in Gray Manor, I wanted to make you reluctant to have me leave. I wanted you to plead with camille yourself so that I could stay to become your playmate and study buddy.â
âHmph. â As Shirley said that, she chuckled while feeling pleased with herself. âCarter, Iâm very good at acting, right? You must have thought that I was so in love with you and I couldnât live without you so I would be willing to do anything for you, right?
Youâre wrong. We were just using each other. I was only pretending when I was with you, and now, this is the true colors of Shirley Brown.â
After hearing what Shirley said, Carter did not have the previous look of anger on his face anymore.
He looked at Shirley who had never once looked at him since he entered and eventually asked after a long while, âAre you sure youâre telling the truth?â
âOf course, â Shirley answered decisively. The corners of her beautiful eyes were slightly lifted as she scanned Carterâs face coldly.
â If not, why do you think I stopped contacting you for so long and even came back to live here? You should see now that Iâve sorted things out with my brother. Iâm bored of the game between you and me, so thatâs why I didnât bother contacting you.â
Carter thought his heart was strong and it was able to conquer everything. However, when Shirleyâs decisive words pierced his eardrums, he felt as if an invisible dagger was piercing through where his heart was.
This feeling reminded him of when Shirley had left without telling him.
Back then, she had left so decisively.
Now that he thought about it, she really did not love him and that was why she could cruelly leave without any reluctance.
Carterâs expression and gaze froze.
âShirley, youâre something else, â he mocked with a light chuckle. âYouâd better pray that I wonât see you again. If not, Iâll make you pay for using me. â
After he warned her, his icy gaze scanned Shirleyâs disdainful face.
When he turned around and saw Adam glaring at him, he gave him the same warning.
âItâs best if you donât meddle in Jeremy Whitmanâs business. If not, both of you will suffer the consequences.â
After Carter said that, he strode away. When he walked past Adam, it seemed that he used all of his might to bump into Adamâs shoulder.
Adam was caught off guard and crashed into the doorframe after stumbling backward.
âAdam.â Cathy quickly ran to Adam. When she saw the wounds on his face, she knew that Adam had put his life on the line to fight with Carter to stop him. However, an elegant gentleman like Adam would never be able to defeat a man who had been trained and knew how to fight.
âAdam, are you okay? Your wounds⦠I should treat your wounds for you.â Cathy looked at Adam in concern.
âIâm fine. Donât worry about me. â Adam comforted Cathy. When he was about to say something to Shirley, he suddenly heard a muffled thud coming from the side of the bed.
