Chapter 1556
Madeline Crawford and Jeremy Whitman
Madeline felt relieved that Jeremy was able to be so understanding of her.
She leaned over and kissed Jeremyâs cheek lightly. âJeremy, wait for me to come home.â
âOkay.â Jeremy smiled back.
After handing Pudding to the servantâs care, Jeremy drove Madeline to the vicinity of Carterâs manor.
The rain was not so heavy now, and Madeline entered the manor alone holding an umbrella.
Carter was sitting on the sofa in the living room while reading a book. He saw that Madeline was back and no longer wearing a mask as she was before. His eyes stayed on her face for a few seconds before speaking.
âDidnât you say that you would stay with me last night and you donât want to go back to Whitman Manor? Why did you go again this morning?â
âI left some of my personal items over there, so I went to get them.â
Carter nodded. âHave you gotten them?â
âGotten them?â
âThat means you donât need to go back there anymore, right?â
ââ¦â Madeline felt like she had fallen into a trap. As such, she had to agree with Carter at this moment.
âYeah, thereâs no need for me to go back anymore.â
Carter seemed to be satisfied with this answer. He put down his book, stood up, and walked toward Madeline casually. Then, he asked, âDo you know how to cook?â
Madeline paused and nodded. âI know a little bit.â
âIt doesnât matter if you donât. Someone will teach you.â
âMr. Carter, you meanâ¦â
âMy parents and a few of my relatives will be having dinner here. Youâll be the one preparing the meal.â
He was asking her to be responsible for the food tonight. Although Madeline was reluctant, she knew she had no choice.
Carter took her to the kitchen where the chefs and dessert chefs had been waiting for Madeline.
To be frank, Madelineâs skills were quite decent, so she did not need to be taught, but since Carter had arranged for people to guide her, she naturally cooperated.
The menu was decided by Carter. After a busy afternoon, the ingredients were finally ready.
Madeline glanced at the time, and she figured she could rest for about half an hour. After that, she had to start cooking those dishes.
When she was about to leave, Madeline saw an unopened bag of premium-grade peanuts thrown above the trash can. She was about to pick it up, but the maid nearby stopped her.
âMadam is allergic to peanuts and canât eat them at all. The chef only brought them here for the soup because he didnât know.â
âThen she should just not eat it. Itâs such a waste to throw them away like this.â Madeline felt that it was too exaggerated and too wasteful.
However, the maid seriously emphasized, âWe canât even touch them. Madam will get angry when she sees peanuts, so peanuts canât exist in this house.â
Since the maid had already told her this, Madeline did not say anything else.
âMiss Montgomery, you can go to rest now.â
âOkay, Iâll go back to the room and have a rest.â Madeline started to walk to the door. As soon as she stepped out of the door, she saw Ada walking toward her.
With a smirk on her face, Ada walked straight to Madeline and opened her mouth to sneer, âThey did such a good job on your face, Miss Montgomery. I heard that youâre going to cook dinner for Cartyâs parents tonight. How exciting.â
Madeline smiled slightly. âYes, my plastic surgeon has good skills. If Miss Ada needs it, I can introduce the person to you.â
âWhat do you mean by this? Are you suggesting that Iâm ugly? Do you think youâre better than me?
Didnât you go for plastic surgery because you were ugly?â
âYeah, I went for plastic surgery because I looked ugly, but does my ugliness have anything to do with you?â Madeline calmly retorted.
âYouâ¦â Ada was livid. When she saw Madeline ignoring her and walking away, her eyes darkened as a sinister sneer appeared on her face. âYour good days are coming to an end soon.â
After saying that with a sinister smile, Ada walked into the kitchen and picked up the bag of peanuts that had been thrown into the trash can. After opening it, she took out some of the peanuts and stuffed them into the cleaned chicken.
After doing this, she threw the whole bag of peanuts back to its original place and pretended that it had never been opened.
She glanced at her masterpiece with satisfaction before turning around. However, when she turned around, she was startled by the person who came in without her knowledge.
