Suddenly, she became very pessimistic, especially after she saw Naomi’s arrogant, confident, and pleased face when she was sure that she did not have the guts to face Jeremy. Madeline could not accept this.

She clenched her fists and took a deep breath. She kept on telling herself to calm down.

However, when she looked at herself in the mirror, she could not keep calm.

She turned around and forced herself to not look.

She stood with her back to the mirror for a very long time. She endured the discomfort on her face when suddenly, she remembered something and there was a glint in her dull, lifeless eyes.

Perhaps she should try it.

Madeline thought about it and put on her clothes and mask.

When she was about to go out, she heard knockings on the door.

Madeline walked over to open the door. To her surprise, she saw Jeremy upon opening the door.

Their eyes met, and Madeline was slightly taken aback. However, she pretended to stay calm. “How can I help you, Mr. Whitman?”

Madeline was curious indeed. Should Jeremy not be at work after sending the children to school? Why did he come back?

Plus, she did not know if she was delusional but she felt that Jeremy’s eyes were intentionally avoiding her face.

“Are you okay?” After a long while, Jeremy finally asked.

‘Okay?’

Madeline shifted her eyes in puzzlement before remembering what happened in the park just now.

“You heard about it too, Mr. Whitman? About what happened just now?”

“Yeah.” Jeremy nodded. “So, are you okay?”

“Thank you for your concern, Mr. Whitman. I’m fine.” Madeline’s answer was straight to the point. “I’m sorry, Mr. Whitman, I need to go out for a bit. Can I take a day off?”

“Are you going out? Let me drive you.”

“…” Madeline had never seen Jeremy being so passionate and friendly before. She quickly declined.

“No need, my boyfriend will pick me up.”

Madeline had no choice, so she could only use Carter as an excuse to decline Jeremy.

She could notice the subtle changes on Jeremy’s face. However, she did not have time to think too much about it.

After Madeline got out of the house, she called a cab from the side of the road.

When Jeremy saw Madeline getting into the car, he got into his own car and followed behind her.

Even though Madeline had only gone to Adam’s place once, she still remembered where it was as clear as day.

After she arrived at Adam’s home, Madeline stood at the door and hesitated.

When she was hesitating, the woman named Amy walked out of the house. However, to Madeline, Amy was Cathy from before.

Amy spotted Madeline and walked to the door curiously. She looked into Madeline’s eyes and felt a sense of familiarity. “Are you—”

“I want to see Dr. Brown. Is he home?”

“Oh, you’re looking for Adam.” Amy looked into the house. “Come in, then. He’s home.”

“Thanks.” Madeline let out a sigh of relief before following Amy into the house.

Adam was playing with the children in the living room. When he saw Amy bringing Madeline over, he looked at Madeline’s eyes curiously for a moment.

“Eveline?” Adam asked probingly.

Madeline did not nod or shake her head. “Adam, I think you’re the only person who can help me now.”

After she said that, she lifted her hand and removed the mask from her face.
