Chapter 1426
Madeline Crawford and Jeremy Whitman
She touched his arm with eyes full of worry as the manâs body temperature had not increased at all.
âHis body temperature is low because heâs soaking in ice.â Shirleyâs voice sounded from behind.
Madeline turned her head and saw Shirley slowly walking over with a syringe in her hand.
âCould you wait outside, Mrs. Whitman? I donât really like having someone watching over my shoulder when Iâm treating my patients.â
Madeline understood and got up, only to have Jeremy hold her hand.
âDonât go, Linnie.â
âBe good, Jeremy. Let Shirley give you that injection and youâll be alright, okay?â Madeline hushed Jeremy as if he was a child before she let go of her hand.
âThank you, Shirley.â
âYouâre welcome. Itâs my pleasure to help those in need.â Shirley gave a small smile.
Madeline did not think too much of it and went out.
She gave Jeremy one last glance before she closed the door. She saw that the manâs half-squinted peach blossom eyes were tinted red.
He was looking at her delicately.
Madeline suddenly had the urge to return to Jeremyâs side, but Shirley suddenly turned to look at her as if checking if Madeline had left the bathroom or not.
It was then that Madeline took in Shirleyâs figure. Her damp curls had been pulled into a low ponytail while her drenched dress stuck to her flesh and accentuated her curves.
Madeline closed the glass door and could not help but feel uneasy.
Jeremy was soaking topless in the bathtub while Shirley looked like thatâ¦
âNo, no, no.
âDonât take this the wrong way, Eveline Montgomery.
âSheâs saving your husbandâs life.
âSheâs a doctor.
âShe even gave you a meeting gift. She wants to be your friend.â
Madeline continued to persuade herself while she paced outside the bathroom and waitedâ¦
In the bathroom.
Shirley walked toward the bathtub with the syringe in hand.
Jeremy did not even glance at her. Ignoring the searing pain that his body was suffering from, he took a towel from the rack and covered it over himself.
âGet out.â He shooed her away coldly. He would much rather soak in this bone-prickling cold than come in contact with this woman again.
âIâm here to help you, Jeremy. You donât want your wife to worry, right?â Shirley brought up Madeline again. âSheâs right outside waiting for news of your recovery. Sheâs going to suffer more than you if your pain wonât subside.â
She squatted down and reached out to Jeremy with the syringe.
Frost glinted sharply in Jeremyâs eyes. âDonât touch me.â
Shirley ignored him and continued to lean over as she spoke amorously, âItâs not like this is the first time Iâm touching you, Jeremy. What do you think will happen if your wife knows of what happened between us during that half a yearâ¦â
Shirley was interrupted by Jeremy whose hand suddenly wrapped around her throat.
âI donât need you to remind me of what happened, but if you dare to continue disturbing Linnie while thinking that Iâll go easy on you because of that slightest bit of gratitude I have for you, then you can dream on!â Jeremy warned coldly before he pushed Shirley away unfeelingly.
âCough, cough.â Shirley coughed twice and squinted her almond eyes.
Staring at Jeremy who oozed with frost, Shirley leaned forward undeterred and stabbed the needle into his arm before he realized.
Madeline was waiting outside the bathroom door when she suddenly heard a crash as if something had fallen.
It was followed by Shirleyâs frantic voice. âCalm down, Jeremy!â
