chapter fourteen | revealed secrets
THE VERY FIRST NIGHT | gracie abrams
MUSIC PLAYED THROUGHOUT the kitchen as Mila cooked dinner for the two. They were back in LA, back to their regular lives. Gracie was getting ready for the UK/European leg of the tour, they would be traveling to Madrid, Spain for the first show of 2025. The rest of the year would be dedicated to finishing the album and then adding the new songs to the set.
Although Gracie's album wasn't finished yet, Mila's was almost finished and she was excited. After releasing many EPs and singles, she was finally releasing her first official album. This was the happiest moment of her life.
Her current obsession is the recording of Gracie's new song Let it Happen. It was her favorite thing in the world. "I bet all my money that I will lose to you and hand you my life." She sang along with the song, continuing to cook their dinner. She was making something super simple since they had been so busy lately.
This was the first day in a while that they could spend together, so Gracie was over at Mila's house for dinner and hopefully spend the night with her.
Once Gracie's ears picked up on the surrounding sounds, she followed the sound toward the kitchen where she saw her girlfriend dancing around the kitchen and singing along to her song. "I see you're enjoying the song," Gracie spoke up, making herself known as she leaned against the kitchen counter, a soft grin on her face.
Mila smiled at the sight of her and nodded. "Yes, I am." She confirmed, soon putting down the spoon she had been cooking with to add a couple of spices to the sauce. "I think it's my favorite song ever and it's not even released yet. It'll be the most streamed song on my Spotify Wrapped this year."
"Oh yeah? You think so?"
"I know so."
"When this is released, and Wrapped gets released, I'll be expecting to see this song and me as your top song and artist." She challenged, soon wrapping her arms around her waist from behind. She pressed a quick kiss to her girlfriend's neck and then rested her chin on Mila's shoulder. "I hope you like the album. Most of the songs so far are about you." She confessed.
That caught Mila off guard. How many songs had Gracie written about her? Why hasn't she mentioned it? "Really? Care to explain?" She asked her curiously.
"I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I wrote one of the songs about you when I first discovered your music and then looked through your Instagram." She confessed with an awkward chuckle.
Mila was confused by that, wondering what she meant. Once everything was finished, she turned off the heat before she turned around in her arms to face her. She flashed her a confused expression and signaled her to explain.
Gracie let out an embarrassed giggle before she explained, staring her in the eyes. "There's a song on the album called 'Risk' and when I first stumbled across your Instagram and saw the posts with your ex and then the announcement that you made, I got the idea for the song," She started, the confused expression on Mila's face never fading. Gracie cleared her throat before she continued. "At that point, I thought you were the most beautiful girl in the world and I wanted to get to know you better, but I was a nervous wreck so I came up with a plan. I used my tour as an excuse to get closer to you." She continued, her tone getting quieter toward the end, the sound of pure embarrassment showing. "I guess you could say that I was part of those fans that have crushes on their favorite artists..."
That was probably the cutest thing that she had ever heard. She had flings or a kind of relationship with other artists before, but none of them had gone to this extent just to talk to her. She was flattered by the gesture. "Wow, I'm shocked you put in that much work to even get to know me." She spoke with a grin, soon wrapping her arms around Gracie's neck.
"I mean, it's you so it's worth it."
"Well, dinner is done, so let's eat."
After that, the two grabbed their plates and started getting the portions they wanted, and they also grabbed some garlic bread.
Later that night while Gracie was in the shower, Mila sat in her bedroom, on the phone with her family. Her siblings talked about school and her mother spoke about the date she had recently gone on. It was a huge step for her considering the loss of Mila and her sibling's father, she was ecstatic for her.
Once everyone had gotten all their stories out, it was time for Mila to get her turn.
"So, how are things with Gracie? More importantly, when do we get to meet her?" Her mother asked her curiously. The looks on her siblings' faces told her that they were wondering the same thing. "You've posted a lot about her and talked about her recently. I think it's fair that we meet her, you met my boyfriend."
"It's true, and you've met our partners too." Her sister, Lila, chimed in. Her brother, Mateo, soon agreed just to earn a groan from her their older sister.
She didn't expect to be ganged up on like this, she couldn't help but giggle about it. "I will talk to Gracie about it and see what she wants to do," Mila stated, earning groans from her family. She knew that they wanted to meet her, but she wasn't sure how badly they wanted it until now. "I want her to be comfortable too, after all." She continued.
Once her name had flown out of her mouth, the bathroom door opened, releasing any shower steam that dared to escape. Grace had walked out of the bathroom, Mila's robe wrapped around her body, held together by the belt and she was drying her hair with a towel. "What do you want me to feel comfortable about?" She asked curiously, a smile on her face.
Mila's gaze shifted from the laptop screen to her girlfriend, taking in the sight of how beautiful she was, even if she had just gotten out of the shower. One might argue that it makes someone ten times more attractive. In this case, it was true.
"Oh you know, just the fact that my family is still trying to meet you." She replied with a slight chuckle.
Gracie nodded with understanding as she slowly approached her girlfriend. Once she was in front of her, she slightly bent down and planted a quick peck on her lips before taking a seat next to her. "I'd love to meet your family," Gracie confirmed with a grin, now wrapping an arm around her. "Only if you're comfortable with it, that is."
"Of course, I'd want you to."
Gracie turned to look at the computer screen, seeing the Facetime call on display. She waved at her girlfriend's family with a smile, quickly earning one back. "Hi, I'm Gracie." She introduced herself, her tone showing how cheerful she was.
From that point, Gracie had talked with Mila's family, working out a date for the formal meeting and telling stories. They shared stories about Mila and laughed, a blush of embarrassment creeping upon Mila's cheeks, each story somehow more embarrassing than the last.
This is a moment she would never live down.
Long after the call with her parents, Mila and Gracie had gone to bed for the night. However, Mila didn't get to sleep very long. It was a difficult night for her. She thought about the conversation with her family, the chat with Gracie from the night before, and the tour.
She woke up around three that morning, feeling the need to write a song.
The living room is where she sat, her notebook sitting in front of her. She stared at the blank page, too tired to even think a clear thought. She tapped her pen against the pages, a slow rhythm being formed.
She made sure to take note of that for later.
After a few minutes, she heard footsteps making their way toward her. They were light, the same walk that a sleeping person would have. "Are you okay? You're awake super early." Her girlfriend tiredly spoke through a yawn. She softly approached her from behind, leaning down to gently wrap her arms around her neck and press a kiss to her temple. "Are you having issues sleeping again?" She asked her curiously, a hint of worry laced in her tone.
"I just couldn't sleep anyway. My brain has this song that it wants to get out, but it just can't."
After letting out an understanding hum, Gracie moved to sit next to her. Mila wrapped an arm around her and pressed a kiss to the top of her head, soon receiving a tired grin. "Is there anything I can do to help make it easier?" She asked her, willing to do anything to get her back to bed. "Maybe just a little help might be good for you."
"No, I can't seem to get anything out anyway. It's just a lot."
"The curse of being a musician." The two laughed at the statement, soon letting it die down. "Why don't we go back to sleep and try the writing thing in the morning? Sleep would benefit both of us." She suggested, soon standing up from the couch and holding out a hand to her.
Once Mila had grabbed onto her hand, Gracie got her to her feet and the two walked back to the bedroom together. Who knows, maybe help from Gracie would be exactly what she needs to finish her first album, Gracie was what she needed all along.
It's always been Gracie.
