CH 3: Favor
Glazed Doughnuts
Mew was wishing to have the whole week to himself and only to return on Sunday night, and it was just Thursday. But his plans would dash to dirt soon. He was in his resort room, his body stretched all over the bed. He was thinking about, if he should just resign or talk to Gulf. He didn't want to lose his job, but he didn't want Gulf to pressurize him with his feelings either.
"If I quit, it will be hard to find a job, because who would resign from the best company in the country" Mew thought out loud. He sighed, "But I also don't want Gulf to force his feelings on me." He let out a groan and flipped himself, now lying on his stomach. "I can't reciprocate his feelings" Mew dug his face into the pillows. A ring was heard and the lazy man got up to check his phone. It was his junior, Win. Mew picked up the call.
[THE CALL]
Win: P'Mew~~~
What is it? Why the hell are you whining, Huh? :Mew
Wan *crying*: P'Mew! Please come back. I can't take this anymore! there's so much work to do without you here!
Wan *crying*: Mr. CEO has become a zombie ever since you left! He just! just gave everyone so much work and not let us rest!
Why is she crying? : Mew *confused*
Win: Phi, she's fucking drunk right now!
Why? :Mew
Win: She can't get time for her girlfriend because of the sudden workload. In fact, our team has barely been home this week.
WHAT?! :Mew
Win: We are working day and night! It's like the CEO doesn't want you to do any work!
Okay~ I'll be back on Monday. Note that. :Mew
Wan: What!? We still have to work without you here tomorrow? NO!!!~
She seems hell drunk. Will she even be able to go to work tomorrow? :Mew
Win: Even if she dies right now, she'll be at work tomorrow! Please be back Phi. We can't take it anymore without you.
Okay, okay. I'll be back soon :Mew
[CALL END]
Mew could not believe that his whole team had not been able to go home for a week. "Just what is going on in this Gulf Kanawut's mind?" Mew asked himself, falling on the bed, yet again. "I should just hurry back on Saturday," Mew made amendments to his plans. And, his phone buzzed again. It was a text message from the Chairwoman. Why would she text me? Mew's brows knitted.
The Chairwoman never contacted Mew if it was not a huge issue. Did that man tell about it to his mother? But chairwoman is not a senseless lady, Mew doubted the intentions. He unlocked his phone and his screen shown with the message.
'Mew, I wanted to ask you for a favor. Could you possibly meet me on Saturday?' the text was.
"Okay Mew, say goodbye to your little vacation. It ends tomorrow," Mew acted cheery. He was pissed. He just hoped that Fon didn't know of the confession thing.
*SATURDAY*
***CHAIRWOMAN'S CABIN***
FON'S POV...
I knew that Mew was on a vacation but I still called him to meet me. I talked about this matter to my husband and he agrees. My son is not in the position to object. Only Mew is the person who can make my plans fail.
Ever since Mew joined this company, I saw that adoration in my son's eyes. How could I let it go unnoticed when it was the first time my son looked at someone with that gaze. It was a gaze full of love, adoration, respect and happiness. If this might help my son, then I'm willing to do this.
I did some research about Mew and found out something I pity him for. I found out his mother died when he was seven. Now, that's a really early age to lose a parent's love. His father used to work in different cities, leaving him home alone mostly. But even that man died when Mew was in his second year of university. He did have a stepmother and stepsister. But those two don't seem to be fond of him. He's been deprived of familial love for so many years. I hope I can fill that empty space in his heart up.
It's the weekend and so there aren't a lot of people in the office. It's just me and my secretary on this floor. I was waiting for Mew, though it isn't time for our appointment yet. I just wish everything goes right.
But. No matter the results, I won't let Gulf hurt Mew. Though Gulf won't hurt him, possibilities are always there that he might force his feelings.
The clock ticked two in the afternoon and I heard a soft knock on my door. "Come in," I said and smiled knowing it was Mew. Mew stood at the door nervously. I smiled at his cute face. How could he look that cute when nervous? His lips are slightly pouting. His eyes were wide like a curious child. He is fidgeting with his fingers. Now I kind of know why my son fell for him. His cuteness is irresistible.
"Come, sit here," I patted the spot next to me. He nodded agreeing and sat down next to me. His eyes had questions that he didn't have the courage to voice. He's thinking if Gulf told me about his confession. And, no. My son never told me about his crush or confession. I just know because I eavesdropped on their conversation that day.
He finally spoke, "Can I know, why you asked me to meet today?" I stopped smiling widely. Now it is me who is nervous. "Well, I wanted to ask you for a favor. It is a big one so please think thoroughly," I said and he stared at me.
AUTHOR'S POV...
"I wanted you to marry my son," Fon said seriously. Mew's eyes widened with shock. Don't tell me that this bastard asked his mother for this, Mew wanted to beat the shit out of Gulf. Fon had always been his source of familial warmth since he started working here. He resected her as his own mother... whom he had lost years ago. Mew could not deny anything Fon said. But this would be too much. But he wanted to confirm if Gulf was involved. "Did the CEO say anything to you about me?" Mew asked.
Fon knew what Mew meant. Even if she knew of the confession, it wasn't her son who told her. Gulf never even talked about this matter with Fon. This marriage thing was all Fon's very own plan. So, she shook her head slowly, "I haven't talked to him for days now. Did that brat do anything to you?" Fon was now holding Mew's hands tightly. Mew shook his head and hung it low.
"Then would you marry my son? I promise he can't hurt you. If you ever have a problem with him, just tell me," Fon was dead serious. "Does he know about this?" Mew asked. Fon replied, "No. I'm going to talk to him only if you agree." Mew now knew it was purely Fon's set-up. "O- okay. I'll marry him. But can we do it fast?" Mew said. Fon nodded, "Let's keep it simple. Just some friends. No reporters. Let's make it next Sunday. I'll start the preparations."
Mew left after a while. He had no other choice. At least by marrying Gulf, he could have Fon backing him in case of emergency. All Mew knew was that he is safe until Fon was on his side.
***GULF'S BUNGALOW***
Fon paid her son a visit. Gulf was slumping on the couch. His aura itself so saddening and depressing. Good that there was no trash around him. Fon bit her lips as she walked to her son. Gulf was spaced out. He was in his own world of confusion and regret. Tears flowing down his face silently. He was staring at the ceiling, noticing nothing around him.
"Gulf Kanawut!" Fon called him in a stern voice. Gulf was shaken by the sudden voice and turned to his mother. "Mom?..." He called in a hoarse voice. Fon walked up to him and stood there with her hands on her hips. "Why didn't you tell me you're gonna visit? I would've ordered something at least," Gulf forced a smile. "I have something important to tell you," Fon said.
Sensing the seriousness of his mom's tone, Gulf sat up straight. "What is it, mom?" Gulf asked. Fon let out a heavy breath. "You're getting married," Fon said. Gulf was shocked for a second but recovered soon. Not that he's loving you back, just marry whomever, Gulf's conscious said to him. Gulf sighed, "Okay. When is it, my wedding?" Fon could see the compromise and immense hurt in her son's eyes. "Won't you ask to whom?" Fon was questioning Gulf's sanity. Gulf shook his head, "But it's fine if you wanna tell."
"It's Mew. Your secretary. I talked to him already. I want this because only he can control you," Fon left no questions. Gulf was excited about a while but then the reality hit him hard in the heart. He's only doing it for mom, not out of love. He really hates you, Gulf, He told himself.
Fon noticed the painfully slow breakdown of her son. "It's gonna be next Sunday. Nothing luxurious, just simple. Invite Yibo and some other friends." Fon said, taking leave.
*WEDDING DAY*
The depressing week really passed quicker than expected. Mew didn't know why he couldn't refuse. Must have been because of the pleading eyes Fon had. As for Gulf, he didn't know if he should be happy or sad. He was happy because now he gets married to his love. He gets to see his love every day now. But what hurts is that he is not his love's love. For Mew, it's just Fon's request. Gulf knew it won't turn into ii anything beautiful, but he still wants to hold on to it.
Gulf was ready to pass through all the thorny bushes just to see his favorite rose, Mew, bloom. Even if he knew he can never possess it. Gulf wanted to stay around that rose, to see it bloom, to see it flourish. And when it starts withering, he wants to be there to collect all the fallen petals. He would cherish Mew till he himself has completely perished. He was ready to be there for his one and only love even after he pushes him away for an eternity. He would never mind a single hurt as it let him be closer to his love. He'd be thankful of those scars on his heart that it endured and let him see his love up close.
The wedding ceremony was nothing special. Except for the kiss, of course. They were to kiss each other's lips. The sadness Gulf felt when he saw Mew roll his eyes before leaning in for the kiss. It was not something to be measured. All the people present there knew this marriage wasn't something out of love.
***GULF'S BUNGALOW***
It had been about two hours since the ceremonies and everything ended. Mew and Gulf were now in their house. Gulf had just showered and come back to the living area. Mew was still sitting on the couch, his phone in his hands. Gulf wanted to hear his voice but Mew just kept on ignoring him.
"Just so you know. I never told my parents about liking you," Gulf said, trying to be indifferent. Mew simply looked at him and raised his brows. Mew replied, "I know. Chairwoman talked to me for some hours about this." This was the longest sentence Mew spoke to him after the day he confessed. Those remarks were embedded in Gulf's existence as one of the worst scars. Gulf simply nodded in response.
"You can shower in my room. I'll get some clothes for you" Gulf said. He really wanted to call it 'their room', but he wasn't sure if Mew would be okay.
Once Mew was done he came to ask something to Gulf who was already sitting on his bed. "Where do I sleep?" Mew hit right at Gulf's heart, again. Gulf looked at him. The sadness was evident in his eyes but Mew was too tired to notice. "Just sleep here with me," Gulf said. Mew was sleepy but still glared at him. "Just for tonight. I'll get a room fixed for you tomorrow," Gulf looked down at his fingers.
The next thing was unexpected.
Mew walked to the other side of the bed. Gulf was surprised. He thought Mew would argue, but he was already snoring lowly. If it was someone else, Gulf would kick them off the bed for snoring. But Mew's snores were music to his ears. The sweetest melody for now. Gulf too laid down. Gulf turned to his side, facing Mew. He just stayed like that, admiring the handsome face in front of him.
If Mew was awake, he'd probably be snapped at. But Mew was asleep and looked like an innocent child. Gulf wanted to caress the face but he knew his limits. "Thank you," Gulf said in a squeaky voice. "hmm?" Mew wasn't completely asleep. Gulf closed his eyes.
Thank you for staying here tonight. And for talking to me today, Gulf shut his eyes tightly. A tear ran down his face as his lullaby, Mew's snores, lured him into slumber.
This sure would be such a remarkable night for Gulf. He got to share his bed with Mew. With the man, he will love till the end of time. Even though just for only one night.
