Poisoned Part 2
What Happens at the CCPD
***** PREVIOUSLY *****
He checked his wrist for a pulse and paled. There was nothing.
Singh frantically started CPR.
"Come on Allen. Don't do this. Wake up!"
***** NOW *****
"Come on Allen. Come on!" Singh shouted.
Barry's eyes suddenly snapped open and he started taking in huge gulps of air.
Singh breathed a sigh of short lived relief and placed a hand on Barry's burning skin.
"Damn it Allen," Singh said, "How do you always end up in these situations? JOE! Get up here now!"
Joe came running. His eyes widened when he saw Barry gasping for breath on the ground.
"What happened?" Joe asked, pulling his phone out, already calling Caitlin.
"I don't know!" Singh said, frustrated.
"Joe?" Caitlin's voice said, "What-"
"Caitlin you need to prep the med bay now. And get a gurney to the parking lot. I'm on my way with Barry."
Caitlin cursed and they heard shouting in the background. "What happened?"
"We don't know." Joe said.
"We?"
"Captain Singh is coming as well." Joe said.
"Thanks for the heads up. Get him here Joe. Cisco-"
The line cut off and Joe knelt next to Barry. He was hesitant about picking him up, but he didn't have much a choice. Joe gently lifted up Barry, alarmed at how much his skin was burning. Even for a speedster that was hot.
"We need to get him to STAR labs," Joe said.
Singh nodded and ran ahead, clearing a path and getting a police cruiser prepped. Joe slid in with Barry, still painfully gasping for air, and Singh took off. Seven painful minutes later, they made it to STAR labs.
Caitlin and Cisco were waiting.
Caitlin immediately started shouting orders and they were followed without question.
Singh and Joe stood off to the side, useless now that Caitlin and Cisco had him in the med bay.
"David, are you sure you don't know what happened?" Joe pressed.
Singh shook his head, "I swear Joe, I have no clue. I went to send him home and found him unconscious and without a pulse."
Joe ran a hand over his face. He took shaky breaths and screwed his eyes shut.
An hour later, a very exhausted Caitlin came out, followed by an equally exhausted Cisco.
"He's stable." Caitlin said.
Immediately, the two officers' shoulders slumped in relief.
"What happened?" Joe asked.
Caitlin nibbled her lower lip. "He was poisoned."
Their eyes widened.
"Poisoned?!" Singh asked, "Who the hell would poison Barry? What was he poisoned with? Will he be okay?"
"So long as I can make the cure in time, he'll be okay. But I need to get started now. The poison has been in his system too long already."
"How much time do you have?" Joe asked carefully.
Caitlin swallowed, "Five hours. If I can't get Barry the cure within the next five hours, he will die."
***** LINE BREAK *****
Joe couldn't decide if time was going slow or fast. Sometimes it seemed to crawl, making the seconds drag on and everything seem dull. At other times, it seemed as though they wouldn't have enough time and Barry would be lost.
Caitlin was working as fast as she could to synthesize the antidote. If she didn't save Barry, she would hate herself forever. The problem was, it was very delicate. If she messed up any measurement, even by a fraction, it could prove fatal for the speedster.
Singh was attempting to figure out who would poison Barry. It could've been any criminal or criminal's relative that Barry put behind bars. But it could've been somebody who Singh didn't even realize hated Barry enough to poison him. Singh couldn't figure it out, and it was driving him mad. But it was the only thing keeping his mind off of the fact that Barry may not survive.
Time was running out.
The hours became less and soon turned into minutes.
"I got it!" Caitlin shouted, holding up a vial of blue-green liquid. She raced to the med bay and distributed it into a shot. (I've been watching so much Star Trek that I almost wrote Hypo-spray instead of shot) She hesitated as she brought the shot to Barry's arm.
"What?" Joe asked.
"If I messed it up," Caitlin said, "It could kill him."
"Caitlin," Singh said, "If you don't give it to him, then he'll die for sure."
Caitlin swallowed and administered the shot.
At first, nothing happened. Then, machines started beeping wildly. Barry started convulsing.
"What's happening?!" Joe yelled.
"I don't know." Caitlin gasped.
The heart monitor went dead.
"Barry!" Caitlin shouted. She rushed to set up the defibrillator.
Then Barry shot up with a gasp.
"What? What happened?" He gasped.
"Barry!" Everyone yelled excitedly.
"Hi?" He said. He looked at his surroundings. "What happened? Why am I in the med bay?"
"You were poisoned Barry," Caitlin explained, "we nearly lost you."
Barry furrowed his eyebrows.
"Glad you're okay Barry," Singh said. "But if I ever find you passed out in your lab again I'm going to kill you."
Barry grinned, "I'll keep that in mind sir."
