Chapter 2

Lightning Strike

What Happens at the CCPD

Captain Singh sighed. He was ready to go home and be done with the day. It had been rather uneventful. The only thing they really needed to do was keep the rioters calm for the duration of the particle accelerator launch.

When he thought about the particle accelerator, he thought about his CSI. Barry Allen. He was a good worker, and he felt bad that he had to miss the particle accelerator. He knew he was really looking forward to it, since that was practically all the kid talked about for the past month. Singh smiled, he had a soft spot for Allen, though he'd never admit it. He had so much energy and life, and he just made the whole precinct a better place to be. It amazed Singh that Barry could have so much happiness considering he had lost so much.

His thoughts were interrupted by a rumble of thunder. The weather was getting rather rough, and it worried Singh. A couple minutes later, the news mentioned that the rioters had cleared away due to the poor weather.

The news became more alarming. The reporter was saying that the storm had caused a malfunction to the main cooling system.

Then the power shut off. Everywhere. Singh ran out of his office.

"Get a team down to STAR labs now!" Singh yelled.

And officer ran up to him, "The hospital's power is out."

'Crap' Singh thought, then he said, "Get a team to the hospital!"

The weather outside was a nightmare. It was a full thunder and lightning storm, and Singh was not happy.

Everyone was rushing around the precinct, and Singh frowned. 'Damn,' he thought, 'how did this happen? I hope Rob is alright.'

Then he heard a crash. He froze. The crash had sounded right on top of them. Almost as if...

Singh's eyes widened and his heart rate sped up. He shoved through officers, ignoring their questioning looks. He raced up the stairs and hoped to god that the crash didn't come from where he thought it had.

He opened Allen's lab and he paled. The lab's skylight was shattered and rain was pouring through. Water was everywhere and a chemical rack had fallen over. But what scared Singh the most was the limp figure on top of the fallen rack.

"Allen!" He cried and rushed over to him. He checked for a pulse, relieved only momentarily when he found it. It was sluggish.

Singh picked Barry up fireman style, ignoring all the chemicals for the time being. He practically sprinted down the stairs.

"Someone call an ambulance!" He shouted. Singh laid Barry down, noting his burnt clothes.

"What happened?" the new detective, Eddie Thawne, asked.

"He was struck by lightning," Singh answered, "Thawne! Call Joe. Tell him what happened."

"The ambulance is here sir!" An officer yelled. Paramedics rushed in with a stretcher and carried Barry away.

Singh barley registered any of it. All he was thinking was 'stay alive Allen'.

He rattled off a few more orders, and once everything was under control he called his fiance. One he knew he was alright he made his leave to the hospital.

He drove to the hospital way over the speed limit. He ran inside.

"Where is Bartholomew Allen?" he practically demanded.

"I think in the ER," the office lady stuttered, "But sir..."

Singh was already gone. He found Joe and Iris in a hallway. Iris was crying into her father's shoulder. He looked through the glass window and saw his CSI. Suddenly, he started seizing, the power surged, he flatlined and doctors rushed around to try and save the young man's life.

"Keep fighting Barry," Singh whispered. He had tears in his eyes. Allen was going to make it. He had to make it. Too many people needed him for him to not make it. He was strong. He would make it. Singh kept saying this in his head until he was confident that  Barry Allen would make it.

***** LINE BREAK *****

Joe came to Singh the next day.

Singh jumped on him (not literally) when he saw him, "How's Barry?"

Joe swallowed, "Barry's in a coma."

Singh's breath left him in a rush. "Do the doctors think he'll wake up?"

"They're unsure," Joe said quietly.

Once everyone was informed of Barry's condition, the precinct had never been so quiet.

Weeks went by. The mood in the precinct never changed.

Every day, Singh  asked for an update on Barry's condition, sure that he would wake up.

4 months went by. Everyone was still quiet and solemn.

Singh stopped asking for updates every day. He would ask roughly once a week.

6 months went by. The mood was still gloomy. Allen was the baby brother of the precinct and everyone missed him.

8 months went by. By then, most people had given up hope that Barry would wake up. Singh didn't give up yet though. Barry would pull through. He just knew it.

9 months went by. Singh knew that the longer someone was in a coma, the less likely they were to wake up.

At the end of the ninth month, Barry pulled through.

Singh was working in his office, the mood as gloomy as ever. Then he heard someone shout the name he'd been hoping to hear.

"Allen!"

The mood of the precinct instantly lightened. It was as if the dark cloud that had been hovering over the precinct for the past nine months and simply vanished the moment the CSI came in.

Singh practically ran out of his office. And there he was. Barry Allen was walking through the precinct saying hi to the officers, smiling brightly.

He looked as if he'd never left.

"Allen!" an officer said, "Good to see you. When'd you wake up?"

"Just today," Barry answered cheerfully.

"Seriously!" he said, "And you're already up and about?"

"Yup!" he smiled.

Singh didn't really care that Barry was already walking around after he just woke up, he just cared that he was awake.

"Barry!" he shouted.

Barry looked a him and grinned, "Hi Captain Singh!"

"It's good to have you back." Singh said.

And Barry grinned.

The precinct had never been as happy as it had been in that moment. The moment the sunshine baby brother of the CCPD had finally come back.
