Chapter 14

Trust

What Happens at the CCPD

After Barry gets locked in the pipeline. AU where Joe doesn't get taken.

*********

"Hey Bar," Joe said as Barry brushed past him to Singh's office.

"Joe," he acknowledged. He knocked and entered the room. "Here you go Captain." He said handing him some files.

Singh got up, "Thanks Allen," he said.

Just then, the alarm that there was a crime scene went off. (Don't know if that's a thing... but whatever)

"West, Allen, let's go," Singh said.

"I'll give you a ride Bar," Joe said hopefully.

For a moment Barry didn't say anything. Singh watched on curiously, then to his surprise, Barry asked, "Actually, I was hoping to catch a ride with you Captain. Is that alright?"

Singh nodded, confused, "Sure Allen."

Joe's shoulders slumped and Barry walked ahead. Singh was confused. He had never seen Barry act like this towards anyone, let alone Joe. He wondered what happened to make Barry this way.

He gave Barry a ride to the crime scene. The ride was tense and quiet. When they got there, Barry hopped out of the car and went strait to the body, something he almost never did. And when he sprouted out details, he said them to Singh, rather than Joe.

"Nice Bar," Joe said. "We can always trust you to get the job done."

Barry pursed his lips together tightly, then he scoffed, "Well you have a funny way of showing that." He turned on his heel and walked away.

Singh was beyond confused. Allen was angry at Joe for some reason. Actually angry. Singh had seen Barry upset at Joe before, but never angry.

"Joe," Singh said, "What's up with you and Allen?"

Joe sighed, "Barry's mad at me, because I did something he didn't agree with."

Singh waited for Joe to elaborate. When he didn't, he only became more curious as to what he did.

***** LINE BREAK *****

Back at the precinct, Singh kept a close eye on Barry and Joe. At one point, Barry came down for a cup of coffee. Singh watched with eagle eyes as Joe approached him.

"Barry." Joe said.

Barry ignored him.

"Barry, son," Joe said again.

"Did you need something Joe? If not, I have work I need to get back to," Barry said bluntly.

Joe frowned, "Son..."

"Stop it Joe." Barry said. "Stop calling me son. I'm not your son. I'm the son of Henry Allen. Not you."

Singh stared at Barry in shock. He knew that Barry loved Joe like a father, and he never says things like that to Joe unless he is aiming to hurt him.

"I'm sorry Bar," Joe tried.

"So you've said." Barry deadpanned, "You keep saying that, but I really don't believe you. So if you'll excuse me, I have work to do." With that, he turned on his heel and left Joe feeling defeated.

Singh was dying to know what happened. He was going to investigate, and if anyone asked, he was checking his co-workers' well beings. So he kept his eyes out for the two of them together, so hopefully he could piece together what happened.

Barry came down one last time to give Singh the file on the case from earlier today.

"Thank you Allen." Singh said. Barry nodded, "Allen?"

"Yeah?"

"What's the matter with you and Joe?" he asked.

Barry scowled. Singh had to keep his own expression in control, because 'What the heck! He didn't even know Allen could scowl!'

"It's nothing to concern yourself with sir." Barry said shortly and walked out of the room.

Singh sat there for a moment, stunned. Then he heard Joe call out to Barry and he came back to his senses. He walked outside and followed Joe, who was following Barry up to his lab.

He stayed just outside the lab doors, so he could hear what they were going to say.

"Barry, will you listen to me?" Joe asked.

"Joe, I have listened to you. And you say the same thing every time. You say you were doing it for my protection. What you won't say is that you were doing it for the team's protection too because you don't trust me! After everything that's happened, all of you not trusting me hurt worse that the tranque dart you shot me with."

Singh's eyes widened. Joe hit Barry with a tanque dart? Why? And where did he get a tranque dart?

"Barry you weren't thinking clearly. You were..."

"I was what?" Barry interrupted. "Angry? Yeah. Grieving? Yeah. No duh I was Joe. You kidding? I literally just watched my dad get murdered by another evil speedster just because he was trying to prove that I was like him. And you all decide to lock me up instead of, oh I don't know, comforting me?"

"Barry, you were gonna go after Zoom and race him. We decided that that wasn't an option." Joe said.

"No. You decided. And look at where we are now? I'm gonna race him anyway because your guys' plan to stop him failed! And you almost got taken. I couldn't have done anything to save you because you decided it would be best to lock me up like some villain."

"Barry..."

"You guys didn't trust me, and now you've lost my trust." Barry said sadly.

"Barry, you were gonna kill him."

"Of course I was Joe! I still am! He deserves so much more than death for all the pain he's caused. All the lives he's taken."

"You'd never forgive yourself Bar."

"I think I'd manage."

"Bar..."

"Get out Joe. We're done talking."

Upon hearing that, Singh hurried back down to his office. He sat down and tried to comprehend what he just heard.

He knew that Henry Allen died, but he did not know that Zoom was the one who killed him. And apparently it was to prove that Barry was like him. But why? Barry also said that he was going to race him. That means that... Singh's eyes widened. Barry was the Flash. And Joe shot him and locked him up when he was grieving? That's not cool.

But Barry said he was gonna kill Zoom. He wasn't opposed to Zoom's death. But he was opposed to it by Barry's hand. He'd never heard Barry like that before. Joe was right though, Barry would never forgive himself if he were to take a life. No matter how evil.

And Joe and some others tried to make a plan to stop Zoom without Barry and Joe almost got taken. And Barry felt helpless.

Singh stared at the wall.

Allen didn't trust Joe anymore, because Joe didn't trust him.

If Singh knew anything, it was that trust was not easily repaired. He just hoped that this wouldn't last long. And he really hoped someone could get through to Barry, and keep him from doing something he'll regret.
