Bumpkins Rich Handsome Husband Chapter 644
Bumpkins Rich Handsome Husband
Chapter 644 Matthewâs Back Veronica got out of the car, and Yvette held an umbrella over her. She handed Veronica a red scarf.
âItâs cold. You should wear this.â
Yvette was a slender woman. She wore a long black coat that accentuated her waist. Her hair was cropped short, which brought out her features even more. She was an aloof woman, to begin with, and with her wearing gold-rimmed glasses, she looked more like a handsome woman than a beautiful lady.
âThank you.â Veronica looked at her in surprise and took the scarf from her before wearing it around her own neck.
âItâs nothing. Thomas told me to do this,â Yvette said.
Veronica merely acknowledged it without saying anything further. She took the umbrella from Yvette and darted into the Kings Residence. She went through the yard and passed over the man-made bridge until she was finally in the backyard.
Even before she reached the place, she could hear Elizabeth yelling, âDonât just stand there. I want to see Matthew, and youâre calling him here right now.â
Elizabeth is at it again. Veronica froze in her tracks and looked at the snow beneath her. It felt like her heart was getting even colder. She closed the umbrella and handed it to Yvette, and then she clenched her fists before heading toward Elizabeth. âGrandma?â She replaced her sadness with a sweet smile.
Elizabeth was pointing her crutch at the servants as she yelled at them. Veronica exchanged a look with Yura, and the latter shook her head. There was visible sorrow in her eyes.
âWhat are you doing, Grandma? I told you Matthewâs overseas. You donât have to worry about him.â
Veronica went up to Elizabeth and stopped before her, holding her hand as she said playfully, âDonât you miss me at all?â
âWho are you?â Elizabeth kept her dementia under control with medications, but Matthewâs disappearance had hit her greatly, and it exacerbated her condition. She couldnât even recognize Veronica when she was having an episode.
âIâm Matthewâs wife, your granddaughter-in-law.â She forced a smile and put Elizabethâs hand on her belly. âAnd this is your great-grandchild. Look, itâs this big now.â
âIs that so?â The scowl on Elizabethâs face was then replaced by a grin. âSo, Matthew has a son now.â
Phew, sheâs feeling better. Yura waved at the servants, telling them to leave.
However, Elizabeth suddenly frowned again. âI want to see Matthew. Call him and tell him he needs to come back right now.â
In the past, she had been nothing but the epitome of elegance, so the current sight of her suffering from dementia broke Veronicaâs heart.
âGrandma, Matt isââ
Someone came in and interrupted, âWhat is it?â
âMatthew? Is that you? Youâre finally back, you little brat. Iâve missed you!â Elizabeth flung Veronicaâs hand away and approached the newcomer. She held his hand and looked at him closely. âYou work and work and work, but you never come to see me. And look at you. Itâs only been a while, and you have lost some weight. And you look older too.â
Veronica was infuriated when she saw who it was. She then looked at Yura and kept her mouth shut.
Conrad sneered and looked at Veronica smugly as he held Elizabethâs hand. âWell, Iâm here now. Did you throw a tantrum when I wasnât around?â
He resembled Matthew a little. As such, Elizabethâs yearning for Matthew had made her mistake of Conrad as her beloved grandson. She was as happy as a lark just from seeing Conrad, thinking he was Matthew.
