Chapter 800
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 800
The nurse looked at her and frowned. âIf you feel unwell at all, you have to tell us. You donât look too good. Donât be afraid to voice out your concerns.â
The patient in Bed 208 was quite special and breathtakingly beautiful. The nurses were more than happy to give her a little extra attention.
On the morning that the police visited Melanie to record her statement, she was still lying in bed. Her injuries would take at least a month to heal completely.
The police could tell she was not doing too well, so they left shortly after the interview, leaving the door of the ward open.
Melanie looked out into the corridor. The sound of the other patients and family members walking past the ward outside echoed loudly.
She was about to ring the bell to have a nurse close the door when a slender figure stepped in.
Eugene appeared in the doorway, his lips pressed tight. His suit jacket was rumpled, and he looked exhausted. He had visible bags under his eyes.
In just a few days, he had lost a lot of weight. There was even stubble on his chin. He was a far cry from his usual commanding, immaculate self.
He stood in the doorway, not taking another step.
After a long while, he slowly asked, âAre you feeling unwell?â
His voice was dry and hoarse. He had been standing outside the entire time. When the police came in for questioning, he saw Melanieâs sickly face and thought she was exhausted.

Melanie lifted her eyes, looking at Eugene emotionlessly. âYes.â
Eugeneâs expression immediately turned solemn. He said hoarsely, âIâll get you the doctor.â
âSeeing you is whatâs making me unwell,â Melanie said, enunciating each word clearly as she
continued to stare at him.
Eugene froze and looked back at Melanie. Her expression was calm, but her usually petite frame looked even more frail and helpless right now.
Eugeneâs gaze flickered, and he continued as if he had not heard her, âJust hang in there. Iâll get a doctor to examine you.â
âDonât act dumb with me. It doesnât suit you.â Melanie did not raise her voice when she spoke. Her tone was completely level, as though she was talking about the weather. âEugene, just looking at you makes me sick. Do you understand?
âI couldnât sleep all night knowing you were out there.

âYour very presence gives me nightmares whenever I close my eyes.
âYour very existence is a constant reminder of all the things you and your family did to kill me and my baby,â
The sorrow in her was like a sudden flood that swept Eugene away. He drowned in the torrents of her grief, unable to hear anything except for her choked voice.
âI sensed its heartbeat. I felt it kicking me. But I didnât even know if it was a boy or a girl. I never even got to hold it.
âEugene, its name was supposed to be Emery.â
Like a glacier collapsing with a roar, Eugene felt something in his heart shatter.
Emery.
Eugene and Melanie.
That was supposed to be the name of their child.
