Chapter 765
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 765
âEvelynâs voice carried a mocking tone that was hard to hide as she boldly looked at Melanie. She scoffed. âItâd better not be Eugeneâs. Weâre about to get engaged, and having a child pop up at this point would be quite troublesome.â
Melanie stood silently. Her hand that was holding her phone tightened as she straightened her back. She watched as Evelyn approached.
Despite being naturally tall, Melanie was slightly overshadowed by Evelynâs height, especially with her heels on. Evelyn exuded an inherent air of elegance and refinement. Her gaze was fixed on Melanie as she raised an eyebrow slightly.
âYou know, in families like ours, I can tolerate him having affairs with other women. But I absolutely canât tolerate the appearance of a child.â
Evelyn paused and glanced at Melanieâs belly before calmly retracting her gaze. She lifted her wine glass and left the balcony.
The distant Christmas lights continued illuminating the night sky, and Melanie felt a chill running down her spine as she stood alone on the balcony.
She understood Evelynâs warning. Her gaze fell to her flat stomach. It was miraculous that there was indeed a little life growing inside her.
Her phone vibrated. A message from Yvonne and Reny popped up in the group chat. Melanie glanced at it and then left the balcony.
As she entered the room, she spotted Xander approaching. His brows were knitted together, and he had a jacket in hand. He stopped when he saw Melanie. âItâs cold outside. I thought you hadnât come in yet.â
Melanie glanced in a direction not far away, where Evelyn was smiling as she walked toward Eugene. Initially engaged in conversation with Cedric, Eugene suddenly turned to look at Evelyn.
Even Cedricâs usually stern and conservative temperament softened upon seeing Evelyn. Melanie shifted her gaze away and asked Xander, âDo you have anything planned for later?â
Xander observed the fatigue in her eyes and draped his jacket over her shoulders. âNope. I can drive you home.â
The faint scent of lemon on Xanderâs jacket helped dispel some of the coldness that Melanie felt.
âDidnât you hear me just now? In a few days, accompany Peyton and Evelyn back to Prime City. After that, Peyton has some business to attend to in Oskon City and be there to look out for her.â
Cedric was displeased and glanced at Eugene, who retorted calmly, âI have work to deal with in the company and have no time for that.â
Seeing that Cedric was about to flare up, Evelyn chimed in, âMr. Scott, I just saw Mr. Quinland over

there. Didnât you have something to discuss with him? Iâll be here with Eugene,â
Cedric glanced warningly at Eugene before saying sternly, âVery well. Since you young people have something to talk about, I wonât interfere, Eugene, be more like a gentleman!â
As soon as Cedric left, Eugeneâs expression turned colder, and despite whatever Evelyn said, Eugene paid little attention.
A hint of displeasure flashed in Evelynâs lowered eyes. She shut her mouth and looked where Eugene was staring, seeing Xander draping a coat on Melanieâs shoulder.
She squinted her eyes and chuckled.
Then, she asked, âDo you know Melanie is pregnant?â
Eugene froze, and his expression instantly became colder than before. He finally glanced at Evelyn, and there was a hint of anger in his dark eyes.
Evelyn raised an eyebrow. âIt seems you knew about it long ago.â
She pondered and asked, âIs it yours?â
Eugeneâs cold eyes remained unchanged as he replied, âYouâre meddling too much.â
Evelynâs expression remained unchanged. She looked at Eugene and smiled triumphantly, âMelanie didnât lie to me. The child is indeed not yours.â
She said, âI was thinking of getting an answer from you, but it seems I was overthinking.â
After saying this, Evelyn winked at Eugene, who averted his gaze.
However, as Evelyn was about to leave, she bumped into Melanie and Xander coming over. Melanie was wearing Xanderâs coat. When she walked toward Eugene, she lowered her eyelashes and avoided
his gaze.
As they stepped out of the house, the cold air outside instantly enveloped them.
Melanie stopped and said to Xander, âYou should get back in there. Iâll take a taxi home by myself. Itâs easy to hail one here.â
