Chapter 690
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 690
He sounded quite gossipy when he said this, but his tone was rigid. It sounded weird coming from him.
Melanie paused. âDonât pick up everything you see from Yvonne.â
Hughâs expression remained stoic. âItâs just a logical guess. After all, I canât think of anyone else who would help her in Oskon City. Itâs best that you be careful.â
He sounded serious about reminding Melanie to look out for herself.
Melanie nodded. âI know.â
âAbout Eugene Scottâ¦â Hugh said in a tone that sounded older than his age. He
this some thought before commenting, âI donât think heâs a good person.â
gave
It was not only because of how Yvonne had spoken about Eugene. This statement came mostly from Hughâs observation of Eugene and how Hugh felt about him.
Even though Hugh did not speak much and was quite impatient, Yvonne had emphasized that Melanie was her good friend. This prompted Hugh to give her this reminder.
He had just said this when they heard footsteps behind them.
Eugeneâs deep, magnetic voice spoke up. âIt sounds like you donât like me very much, Mr. Brand.â
Hugh and Melanie looked up at him. Eugene was in a black, and he looked more somber than usual.
There was not much of an expression on his clean, handsome face as he looked down at Melanie with a thoughtful look in his eye.
Hugh did not feel embarrassed at all of being caught talking behind Eugeneâs. back. He raised an eyebrow. âLooks like that luxury car doesnât belong to Mr. Scott.â
Lee spoke up immediately, âMr. Scott has been in a seminar in the hall on the first floor. It had only just ended.â
Melanie finally reacted. She looked at Eugene and immediately met his eyes as he was staring at her.
Eugene asked, âWhat luxury car?â
âViola came here in a luxury car and left with Harvey Grant after that,â Melanie.

explained. She did not think much of it. They already had concrete evidence, and Melanie would make sure to send Viola to court.
âThat car isnât mine,â Eugene answered after a brief silence.
Before Melanie could say another word, Hugh spoke up, âYou should be lucky that it has nothing to do with you. Otherwise, Melanie would sue you too.â
He placed his hand around Melanieâs shoulder after that and led her out.
Melanie did not look back. She was beginning to rethink this.
If it was not Eugene, who could it be?
Was it Harvey
crant?
Melanieâs thoughts were interrupted by her ringing phone. It was from an unknown number. Melanie thought it was Howard calling again.
She hung up without hesitation.
A message was sent to her right after she hung up.
[Disappointed, arenât you?]
Melanie immediately recognized who would send such a message to her.
It was Viola.
She looked down at the message for quite a while, and her expression gradually turned dark. Hugh noticed something wrong with her. He asked in a low voice, Whatâs wrong?â
Melanie said nothing. The next day, she received a call from the police. They informed her to make a trip to the police station that morning because there something they needed to discuss with her.
was
She was on her way to the conference hall and made a lastâminute detour to the police station.
It was the same policeman she had talked to the last time. He passed a settlement agreement to her. âThe other party wishes to settle this out of court. She said she can agree to any request you make.â
Melanie looked at the settlement agreement for a long time and did nothing. She looked back up at the wall and saw the poster that stated âJustice will always prevailâ still pasted on the wall.
She heard herself ask/âWhat if I refuse to settle?â
The policeman was silent for a moment before sighing. âItâs up to you, Miss Smith.â
