Chapter 668
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 668
Howardâs last few words were enunciated so clearly it was as if he were implying something deeper.
Melanie could not help but glance at him, only to see him sigh and shake his head silently.
Unable to stand it any longer, Gaston reached out and slapped the table. He said loudly, âMelanie, youâre such an ungrateful daughter. Do you think Howard is doing this for anyone else? Itâs all for you.
âAs for his affair in Jepton, do you think we donât know about it? Howard was genuinely afraid of you being mistreated, but what did you do? You went with someone else and even distanced yourself from
him.â
Gastonâs indignation was palpable as he looked at Melanie with anger.
Melanieâs fingers curled slightly while looking back at Howard, her emotions fluctuating.
Howard knew about Viola. It meant that he had gone to Jepton for an investigation. Whether he had investigated Eugene or her, however, was hard to say.
Gaston sighed again, lamenting to the people around him, âParents always worry about their children, but their worry doesnât always get repaid.â
His words made it seem like Melanie had done something wrong to Howard. Even the two women who had shown a bit of sympathy to Melanie exchanged glances and silently lowered their heads.
Sam also seemed displeased, and the atmosphere of their meal turned sour. However, he could not say anything to Eugene and Melanie. He could only look at Howard and Gaston in the corner.
He gently said, âMr. Smith, the younger generation will do right on their own. You donât need to worry too much.â
Howard was caught off guard by Samâs words and hesitated for a moment before quickly offering a smile. âYouâre right, Mr. Walsh. Sheâs just my daughter, after all. What parent lets go of their children
so easily?â
After saying this, he put down his wine glass as if having come to a decision. He looked at Melanie. He sighed heavily but said nothing, portraying the image of a caring father perfectly.
With Samâs intervention, both sides decided to drop the topic. They thought the matter was settled, but to everyoneâs surprise, Matthew suddenly spoke up.
His indifferent gaze fell on Eugene and Melanie as he chuckled softly. âMr. Scott is indeed an outstanding man. Itâs normal that he would have several people by his side. I heard that heâs the most soughtâafter in Jepton.â
Sam expressed some disagreement at that and replied, âWhat do you mean itâs normal to have several people? Matthew, Nicole is different from other women.â
There was no sign of nervousness in Matthewâs gaze as he redirected it back. âYouâre overthinking it.

I just find it interesting. Mr. Scottâs former secretary is now with Harvey. We met a couple of days ago,â he added.
Harvey was well known among those in the Oskon market, and their expressions changed subtly upon hearing his name.

Matthew then looked at Eugene again. His jetâblack hair seemed soft. His eyes, bright as obsidian, were meaningful as he warned him, âSince Mr. Smith loves his daughter so much, you shouldnât treat
Miss Smith the same way you treated Miss Shaw, Mr. Scott.â
Melanie only knew Harvey was in charge of Redwaves. She was puzzled by the situation when she heard Eugene say casually in his deep voice, âYou seem to be worrying too much. LeapCo would like to collaborate with you, but does that mean my private life should be disclosed too?â
âWeâre business partners, after all,â Matthew replied calmly.
Eugene added, âItâs just a business cooperation.â
His words were earnest, and Matthewâs face remained expressionless. Both were evenly matched, neither giving in to the other.
In the end, Matthew was the first to step back. There was a twitch in his brow and a bright gleam in his eyes. âYouâre right, Mr. Scott. Itâs just business cooperation.â
Eugene looked at him expressionlessly and raised his glass.
It was like these two were speaking in riddles. Melanie sat quietly beside them, not intervening.
Eugeneâs reaction was particularly significant when Matthew mentioned Viola.
