Chapter 486
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 486
Carla knew there was no way this dinner could continue, so she got up.
Stella was angered by Melanie and had already lost her appetite. Grabbing her bag, she left the
restaurant.
Melanie took out her phone to send a message to Xander and the others to inform them that she would not be home tonight.
That was when she heard Carla ask, âHow are you planning to go home when the rain is so heavy, Miss Smith?â
Carla had not done anything to anger her, after all. Melanie replied, âIâll just book a room in a nearby hotel.â
There was a hesitant look on Carlaâs face. âThe nearest hotel would take you ten minutes. It wonât be easy to get a taxi when itâs raining so heavily.â
âIâll leave after it slows down.â
Melanie did not mind.
An arrogant and conceited voice was heard above her head. Eugene asked sarcastically, â Xander Solomon isnât willing to pick you up during a heavy rain?â
Melanie replied with indifference, âWhat does this have to do with you, Mr. Scott?â
A dark look appeared in Eugeneâs eyes. His gaze looked even darker than the sky outside. Donât be stupid, Melanie Smith.
Melanie looked up. Did Eugene just tell her not to be stupid?
Hah!
She lowered her eyes, and there was impatience and annoyance in her tone. âYouâre too conceited, Eugene Scott.â
He was always pointing out her faults from a higher place. He belittled her and ignored her. If she was stupid, the most stupid thing she had ever done was be with Eugene wholeheartedly. While they were crossing swords verbally, the ringing of Eugeneâs phone interrupted them. He looked at his phone and frowned when he saw who the caller was.
Henry was heard saying unhappily, âThereâs a thunderstorm today. I remember Mel suffers from night blindness. I wonder if sheâs out of her house. Can you be more attentive and give her a call to find out where she is?â
Eugene frowned. âYou donât need to worry about my affairs.â
âHow can I not worry? If I donât worry, youâll bring home that brainless woman. Iâm warning you, Eugene. If you donât want to end up like your father, youâd better treat Mel better!â
Henryâs voice was quite loud. Even Carla and Melanie could hear him vaguely.
Melanie slowly clenched her hand.
She and Henry had only spent two short years together and he still remembered that she had
night blindness.
Eugene looked down, and his gaze fell on her tightly clenched fist.
He tried to suppress the sarcasm in his voice as he replied unhappily to Henry, âTreat her better? Do you think sheâll be grateful to you if I did that?â
Eugene hung up after that. His gaze remained on Melanie. There was a chilling, look in his dark eyes that he did not bother to hide.
After a while, a look of impatience flashed across his face. âDidnât you hear what the old man said?â
Melanie did not show much reaction. âHear what?â
The rain was really heavy, and even in the night, they could see the rain forming long lines under the streetlights.
Carla said softly, âMiss Smith, it doesnât matter if youâre going to a hotel or going home, itâs better for Eugene to give you a lift. The rain is really heavy, and we have no idea when itâll stop. Moreover, thereâs an old man out there whoâs very worried for you.â
Melanie looked hesitant when Carla mentioned Henry, but she quickly hid her emotions.
When she was about to reject the offer, her phone rang.
It was Henry.
Melanie did not feel like picking up the call. She had a feeling that this call had come too coincidentally.
