Chapter 471
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 471
Eugeneâs words were sharp. Melanie pursed her lips and did not respond. The items Eugeneâs grandfather had given her were worth no less than five figures even if they were just trinkets.
Moreover, among them was a bracelet. Melanie was unsure if Eugene still remembered it.
It was the year when Henry Scottâs health took a sudden turn for the worse. Eugene had brought Melanie with him to visit Henry, who took out a bracelet in front of Eugene. He said that it was left by Eugeneâs grandmother for their future granddaughterâinâlaw.
Afraid that he would not live to see their marriage, he gave it to Melanie. Melanie hesitated to accept it, but Eugene took it for her.
Melanie had been keeping the bracelet well. This time, she remembered to take it out when she was sorting out the things that she needed to return to Henry. She was not his granddaughterâinâlaw, so it was not right for her to keep the bracelet.
Holding onto the box, Melanie did not want to argue with Eugene about this matter. She was just worried about hurting Henryâs feelings. However, keeping these items made her feel uncomfortable.
âIâll find a chance to return the things to him myself,â she said softly.
A cold sneer escaped from Eugeneâs throat. His dark and brooding gaze showed no trace of emotion, and his jawline was tense.
Henry was staying at the Scott familyâs residence. Knowing that Melanie and Stella had a strained relationship, he suggested meeting at a private restaurant. He was already waiting for them at the restaurant when they arrived.
The old man waved kindly upon seeing Eugene and Melanie. âMel, come over and have a seat.â
His greeting caught her off guard but then she asked, âMr. Henry, are you feeling well?â
Henry took a gift bag from the caregiver beside him and handed it to Melanie. His hair was already fully white. There was a smile on his face. âLook at the gift I brought you. When I saw this, I immediately thought of you.â
Inside the bag was a pair of exquisite jewelry of excellent quality.
Melanie hesitated. âMr. Henry, itâs too valuable. I canât possibly accept this.â
âIt doesnât matter how valuable it is, itâs for you. Iâm willing to give you even more valuable items,â Henry said with a smile.
After saying that, he looked at Eugene beside him and said with some dissatisfaction, âI canât say the same for him, though.â
Melanie pretended not to hear Henryâs words and pushed the bag back, saying firmly, âMr. Henry, this is really too much. I canât accept it.â
The smile on the old manâs face faded, and he sighed. He then glared at Eugene. âItâs all because of you, wretched/boy. Now Mel and I arenât close anymore.â
Eugene remained expressionless as he asked indifferently, âWhat does it have to do with me?â
Henry furrowed his eyebrows. He looked as if he wanted to scold Eugene, but he held back.
Melanie had to be more gentle with Henry and said softly, âAs long as youâre okay, the rest doesnât matter.â
The moment she said that, she felt Eugene looking at her beside her.
The gaze was subtle, but it probably was not a good sign. Melanie pretended not to notice.
Henryâs eyes moved back and forth between the two before he suddenly sighed deeply. Melanie frowned. âWhatâs the matter?â
âNothing, I just find it a bit regretful,â Henry said with a wave of his hand. He looked at Melanie affectionately and said, âThis stubborn brat of mine is not fortunate enough.â
Henry kept steering the conversation toward Melanie and Eugene today. Melanieâs eyes darkened slightly, but she pressed her lips together and said nothing.
