The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Mela5nie Smith ) Chapter 438
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 438
Melanie smirked. âShe probably told you that LeapCo would compensate me with a huge su of money if I resigned, which was why you went there to make a huge fuss.
âShe probably also said that I care for Grandpa a lot. As long as you had him under your grasp, you didnât need to worry about me not giving you any money.â
Melanie said this slowly, and the expression on Dylanâs face gradually turned blank at each word.
In the end, she said hoarsely, âMel, Viola just feels that life hasnât been easy for me. She kept telling me that there wouldnât be any grudges between mother and daughter, which was why she convinced me to look for you. She thought that itâd help improve our relationship.
âI was the one who let you down. Iâve been thinking a lot for the past few days, and Iâve really learned my lesson. I was the one at fault before. I was the one who caused you and Peachie so much harm. I deserve to die.â
There was misery and despair on her aging face. Her dry hands were still in handcuffs.
George had committed plenty of crimes before, and there were a few things he did that were quite terrible. Dylan knew all about them but said nothing, which was why she was viewed as trying to cover his crimes up.
She wanted to hold Melanieâs hand. âI regret it now, Mel, but Peachie is innocent. Iâm a guilty person who deserves to be punished, and I accept the fact that I might be sentenced to death. But Iâm worried about Peachie.
âCan you take care of her on account of me? Iâm begging youâ¦â
Dylanâs pitiful voice continued reverberating in her ears after Melanie left the police station.
She tskâed because she had no idea how to describe Dylan.
Dylan was stupid to a point.
Yet, she thought she was being smart.
She had been used by others but continued to defend the person who made use of her.
Melanie had painstakingly analyzed Dylanâs words, and they proved that Viola was very
careful with what she did. She had even maintained her warm and kind persona when speaking to Dylan.
Moreover, the brainless Dylan defended her.
That was smart of Viola.
Howeverâ¦
Melanie smiled selfâdeprecatingly. Dylan was worried for Peachie and even had a few nice things to say about Viola.
The only person she did not mention was Melanie.
It was fine. Melanie did not harbor any hope for her, anyway.
Stephen did not go inside with Melanie. When he saw her walk out looking normal, he frowned and asked, âHow did it go?â
Melanie said, âHow about coming with me to another place?â
Besides asking Dylan those questions, she also asked about where Dylan had met up with Viola.
Dylan was not a very smart person and told Melanie everything.
Along the way, Stephen suddenly received a call. He glanced at Melanie before clearing his throat to pick up the call. âNicole?â
Melanie looked at Stephen with a raised eyebrow.
Nicole?
That was a womanâs name.
Stephenâs expression darkened when he heard what was being said on the other line. He parked the car by the side of the road despite Melanie being there. After that, he said grimly, Listen to me, Nicole. Donât do anything stupid. Donât hurt yourself over someone who isnât worth it.â
After that, his tone changed, and he sounded like he was cajoling someone. âListen to me, your parents will feel even worse if they find out what you did.â
It was five minutes after Stephen was done with the call. He looked upset.
Melanie looked at him. âNicole?â
Stephen paused before shaking his head and smiling bitterly. âItâs just a silly kid.â
