The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 271
Eugeneâs words seemed to carry a prickly coldness. Melanie looked at him, suppressed her emotions, and then said, âWho Iâm with is none of your concern.â Her tone was indifferent, lacking much emotion.
Eugeneâs expression remained indifferent as he sneered. His voice was low and cold as he repeated, âNone of my concern?
âMelanie, you came here for your grandfather, right?â Eugeneâs words made Melanie freeze.
She stared at Eugene tightly and asked, âWhat do you mean?â
Eugeneâs gaze was steady. With his tall stature, he raised a brow slightly when looking at Melanie. He gave off a distant and unapproachable air. Void of any emotion in his tone, he said, âJust a reminder, heâll only be in Jepton for two days.â
The âhe; Eugene referred to was evident. Melanie slowly came back to her senses. Howard was Eugeneâs uncle.
She quickly brainstormed. She did not have much of an impression of Howard. She only recalled Stella seemingly having a strained relationship with the Hel family while Eugene seemed to be on good terms with them.
Howard was unwilling to see her, but as long as Eugene would help, he could take her to see Howard. Melanieâs expression turned unpleasant, but she immediately responded. She looked up at Eugene and asked, âWhat are your conditions?â
Melanie understood Eugene. He was not one to mention irrelevant matters. A mocking smile flashed in Eugeneâs eyes as they narrowed, reflecting Melanieâs appearance.
A moment passed before he spoke up, tone cold and composed, âYou overthink. What do I have to do with any of your business?â After saying that, he withdrew his gaze and walked into the hall.
Melanieâs eyes flickered. She was about to follow him when a petite figure suddenly
intervened. Viola stood in front of her. The smile on her face had disappeared, and her gaze on her had turned unfriendly.
âMelanie, you heard what Eugene said. He doesnât want you here. Why donât you leave first?â
The sarcastic remarks Stella made and Eugeneâs complete disregard for her upon seeing Melanie made Viola uneasy. She decided to vent her frustration directly on Melanie.
Faking a smile, she said, âMelanie, I still need to go in and accompany the chairman. I wonât be sending you out.â
Melanie looked at Violaâs arrogant expression, her eyelashes drooping lightly. âMiss Shaw, I hope you remember that youâre LeapCoâs secretary and not a receptionist at Jepton Hotel.â
She scrutinized Viola, her gaze finally stopping at the Vâneck shirt she was wearing underneath. With a hint of mockery in her tone, Melanie reminded, âAnd even if you were a hotel receptionist, there would still be dress code requirements.â
Violaâs face stiffened at the comment. She was about to retort, but Melanie had already left.
Melanie was not in a hurry to leave once she was outside. With Howard staying in Jepton for

only two days, time was tight. She stood at the hotel entrance, her brows furrowing as she fell into thoughts.
Just then, Xander called, and Melanie answered. The first voice she heard on the other end was Yvonneâs, asking, âMel, when are you coming back? Weâre planning to go for some duck.â Melanie checked the time, and it was already 8:30 pm. âYou guys go ahead. I have something to attend to,â she replied.
âAre you still not done tidying up the house?â asked Xander this time. He had probably snatched the phone from Yvonne since Melanie could still hear Yvonne muttering in the background.
âItâs impossible to finish cleaning an old house in a day. You donât need to rush.â
âI know. Iâm waiting for someone,â Melanie replied, looking at the neon lights flickering across the street. She could not help but let out a soft sigh.
To be honest, she felt quite powerless.
