Chapter 748: 748: Default
He Clings to Me Every Night
Edward Marshall stared at his elder brother in consternation, âYour illnessâ¦youâre supposed to have selective amnesia? You donât remember me, do you?â
âI was faking it! I knew that some despicable people wouldnât back down, so I fabricated a convincing performance. Now, youâre the first one to show your true colors.â The old manâs piercing gaze was filled with a brutal chill, an unmistakable threat.
With utter contempt, Edward sneered, âBrother, youâre as cunning as ever, a real fox!â
The old man wore a grim facade, his voice chilly, âEnough! What shady business have you been up to recently?â
Edward snorted with icy derision and stammered a defense, âI did nothing, brother. Are you framing me now? Are you treating our father fairly? Or respecting the ancestors of the Marshall Family?â
âIâve given you the chance, but you refused it. If I do anything now, you will have no one else to blame but yourself.â Saying this, the old man took out an old yellowed photograph and showed it to Edward.
Having seen the photograph, Edwardâs expression hardened, and his eyes clouded over. He glared at his elder brother with gritted teeth.
The old man continued with a stern voice: âIt was you who set this woman upon my grandson, wasnât it? Your silence is equivalent to affirmation, right?â
Edward glared at his older brother in resentment, a frozen anger seeping from his gritted teeth, âYour grandson led to my sonâs downfall. It was also your grandson who discarded familial affections. My sonâs birth mother, out of love for her child, sought revenge. Isnât that justice?â
âMy sympathy goes out to my grandson. I seek justice for him, and this, too, is fair! Thus, Iâll reveal this scandal to the public. Your son will live in shame his entire life. He is but an illegitimate child, born out of you and an actress.
Decades ago, I allowed your illegitimate child to enter the Marshall Family residence; decades later, I can also make him leave the Marshall Family and obliterate his name from our family records. Care to test me, hmm?â
Furious but unable to retort, Edward could only glower at his big brother.
Whipping out a document, the old man waved it at his younger brother, âThis is from our father. All these years, mindful of the fact that youâre my brother, Iâve left you to live a life of abundance, while youâve repeatedly schemed against my grandson, my heir, and even attempted to usurp Marshall Corporation. Youâve gone too far, this time, I wonât let you off lightly.â
ââ¦â
âStarting from today, Iâll follow our fatherâs wish, expel you from the Marshall Family, erase your sonâs name from our family book. I will make a public announcementâ¦â
Before the old man could finish, Edward interrupted him and began to plead, âBrother, I was wrong. Iâll leave Serene City. Please donât expunge Jamesâs name from the family record. I was behind the conspiracy to turn Daniel against Olivia Jenkins. But now, she has cancer and doesnât have much time left. Letâs let bygones be bygones and not let James know that he is an illegitimate child.â
âEverything you said, I have recorded. If you and your son persist in your wrongdoings, I will make these recordings public. Once you both go abroad, donât ever think of coming back. The Marshall ancestors wonât have to see you, and they will be relieved.â
Filled with resentment, Edward could only grit his teeth and nod.
Although the old man spoke slowly, his words were full of authority, âBe it Daniel or I, we hold substantial evidence. If you and your son dare to act rashly again, I wonât keep any considerations in mind and will send your son straight to the prison. Even if you are abroad, I wonât show mercy. Remember, you too are a grandfather.â
