Chapter 714: 714: Lies
He Clings to Me Every Night
Grace Ziegler was filled with a sense of failure and unworthiness.
Her mother scrimped and saved to put her through university, and now, she felt guilty spending her motherâs money.
Even though she was not her biological daughter, her mother had raised her for many years. She felt the need to show gratitude and not worry her mother.
âMom, keep your money. I have a job now. I really do have money,â Grace Ziegler said, avoiding her motherâs gaze.
Somehow, Grace felt ill at ease.
Chief Daniel Marshall had lent her fifty thousand yuan, and she had no idea when she would be able to repay it.
If she had to continue saving and scrimping, her life would beâ¦the thought alone made Grace intensely upset, and she couldnât help but resent her difficult background.
Ella Charles, with her sharp eyes, stared at the daughter she had raised without even blinking. Somehow, she sensed something was off.
âGrace, are you facing any difficulties? No matter what, donât try to be strong on your own. You still have me. You really donât need to worry about the medical expenses.â
Grace shook her head, then looked up and met her motherâs gaze. âMom, my boss is nice. He advanced my salary and even gave me leave to take care of you. Donât worry, we wonât have any issues living.
I will certainly be grateful to such a good boss and will work harder to repay him when I return. Even though I am struggling outside, I always think of you. When I earn enough money, I will buy a house and we can live together.â
Ella Charles felt reassured. Her daughterâs maturity made her feel more tenderness and sorrow.
âGrace, use my money for now. Once I recover, we can earn money again. This money was initially saved for your dowry. Since you are not married yet, I still have time to save. I will make and sell more chive dumplings and pickles to save up.â
Even though she was not her biological daughter, her mother treated her just like one. Her mother was so good to her that she felt utterly unworthy.
Grace suddenly felt like crying, a layer of tears welling up in her eyes.
Thinking of Chief Daniel Marshallâs kindness, she realized that she could use this opportunity to get closer to him. There might be countless possibilities. Chief Daniel Marshall wasnât entirely indifferent to her, and this gave her renewed hopeâ
Grace firmly stated, âMom, keep your money for emergencies. You really donât need to worry, I have capabilities now, and I can bear responsibilities. I can take care of you and afford your medical fees.â
Seeing her daughter so determined and confident, Ella Charles didnât think further and didnât ask anymore â she followed her daughterâs arrangements.
Grace didnât want to discuss this issue further with her mother. She went to fetch some water for her mother to rinse.
â¦
Right after Olivia Jenkins went downstairs, she received a bouquet of red roses.
Then, she received a call from Daniel Marshall.
âWife, good morning! Miss you!â
Olivia Jenkins responded with a sweet smile, âGood morning, hubby! I miss you too! How did you sleep without me by your side?â
Actually, Daniel Marshall didnât have much rest last night. He had stayed in the hospital room with his mother late into the night. But he didnât want Olivia Jenkins to worry, so he fibbed.
âIâm not used to you not being by my side. Only by looking at your photos and videos could I fall asleep.â
A hint of happiness crossed Olivia Jenkinsâs pretty face, âDarling, I fell asleep looking at your photo last night too. Our hearts are really connected, isnât that great?â
As long as his wife was happy, Daniel Marshall wouldnât dispel her illusion. However, his handsome face revealed a hint of exhaustion, âWife, I have to go out now. Iâll call you when Iâm free.â
