Chapter 688: 688: Living Together?
He Clings to Me Every Night
Suddenly, both Olivia Jenkins and Valerie Howard turned their attention to Abigail Anderson.
Valerieâs eyes widened abruptly, her mouth forming an O-shaped surprise.
Olivia blinked, releasing a quizzical look at Abigail. âYou two are dating, itâs perfectly normal to be intimate. I sense some distress from you. Is it because he doesnât want to commit to you?â
Their relationship was not actually romantic; it was more of a contractual engagement.
Last night, after having a few too many drinks at Jordan Bennettâs place, they somehow crossed a boundary theyâd never crossed before.
She didnât feel like they were officially dating and she wasnât sure what their relationship status was now.
How should she put it? Abigail frowned slightly, nibbling her lip.
Olivia offered comfort saying, âJust let things take their course, donât fret. Do you like him?â
Sighing softly, Abigail said, âHeâs alright, I supposed. Heâs a good person, treats me decently, and his family has been nice to me.â
Valerie chimed in, âHis family is eager to see him settled. You two should just get married!â
Shaking her head, Abigail said, âI donât want to get married.â
The hawk-like stare from Olivia zeroed in on Abigail, âIf you love him, continue your relationship. If he proposes, you can marry him. No matter what youâre thinking or what worries you, maybe you should talk to him.â
Valerie echoed, âDonât overthink it. Just be blunt about it, ask directly. If you click, continue the relationship; if not, end it. Itâs that simple. Youâre such a beauty, lots of people fancy you and you donât need him to have a boyfriend. Plus, now you have your own career, youâre not reliant on him for a livelihood, thereâs no reason to fear him.â
Abigail nodded.
After listening to her friendsâ advice, she transitioned from being utterly clueless to kind of knowing where she stood. Her mind was no longer stunned blank.
âWhen I get back later, Iâll tell him directly. I still donât want to get married so early, Iâm not prepared for it.â
Picking up her coke, Olivia said, âCheers, letâs drink to happiness!â
Both Valerie and Abigail responded, toasting and taking a drink.
Abigail let out a burp, followed by a giggle.
Looking back at her previous hardships, barely having enough to eat, to now being capable of having a nice life in Serene City, Abigail felt quite fortunate. Shouldnât she be content with what she has?
Olivia patted Abigailâs shoulder, âHurry up and eat. Donât worry, I trust that you can end Jordan Bennettâs solitary life. His sisters will thank you immensely. Speaking of that⦠You moved in together, right?â
Abigail nodded.
Smiling, Olivia said, âSharing a roof, you were bound to take it to the next level sooner or later. Thereâs no need to fret.â
Abigail derided herself, âIâm probably overthinking things; his reaction was quite natural. Olivia, was your husband the same?â
âProbably the same! This morning I woke up feeling sore all over.â
Abigail echoed, âYes, thatâs the sensation! I feel like giving him a good beating.â
Valerie stayed silent, eating her food, her face flushed.
A brief moment passed. Olivia and Abigail shared a glance and burst into laughter.
Jokingly, Olivia asked, âValerie, what do you think of Adam Howard? How about I set you up with him?â
Valerie shook her head, âNo need, no need. He seems like a player, too slick for my liking! Iâm fine, you both can say whatever you like.â
Olivia delicately lowered a morsel of tripe into a hot pot, âFrom this moment forward, we wonât talk about men. This is our get-together, it should be about our thoughts and experiences. Who knows, maybe the guys are also having dinner together, discussing us!â
