Detained: Chapter 51
Detained: A Dark Mafia Romance (Beneath The Mask Series Book 4)
I just manage to open my eyes.
Orange embers float around the room, and as I look up, the red confetti breezes past me. The room is filled with the suffocating thick smoke as it boils from the flames around me.
Fire engulfs the main area of the club. With each attempt to roll onto my side, the glass embedded in the ground cuts deeper into my arms.
âKeller,â I cough as soon as I speak.
The air is heavy, making it hard to breathe.
I try to move my numb limbs, itâs like Iâm in water.
He has to be here somewhere. The last thing I remember was him sitting opposite me.
With each movement, I can feel the strain in my arms as I drag my body across the floor.
âHere,â he croaks out, sitting up. A gasp escapes my lips as I take in the sight of the gaping wound on his head.
âFuck, Zara. Donât move.â His eyes go wide and he scrambles across the rubble, holding onto my face and shrugging off his jacket, placing it over my stomach. âItâs going to be fine. Just donât look down. Iâll get you out of here.â
âHow bad is it?â I rasp out as I struggle to keep my eyes open. The pain is there, but the adrenaline flowing through my veins is blocking everything else.
He lifts my top half of my body, as I look up I see Kai. Heâs so pale. A steady flow of blood is pouring out from his head and forming a pool beside him.
âKeller, you have to get Kai out of here.â I nod over to him.
He glances over, then drops his chin. âShit.â
The thumping in my head gets louder. I rub my temple and hiss out in pain.
âKai,â I say weakly. Why isnât he answering?
A warm liquid smothers my hands, and I bring my fingers in front of my eyes. All I see is blood.
A loud creak comes from above us and the chandelier starts to shake.
âKeller, what the fuck is happening?â
Before he can reply, he looks up. The crack that splits across the concrete above us is getting bigger. Before I can speak, he drops his body over me, covering me completely.
The ceiling collapses. The impact on Kellerâs body crushes me further into the rubble.
Itâs hard to breathe. Heâs too heavy. Weakly, I try to push his arm as stars begin to fill my vision. I feel like Iâm floating as everything blurs together into one haze.
âZara!â I faintly hear my name.
Iâm not sure if Iâm hallucinating. It sounds familiar; it takes away some of the fear.
