Chapter 970
Sweet Subterfuge
The glass shattered into pieces. Orange juice splattered everywhere, including her legs and her slippers.
âYouâ Lewis looked at the orange liquid around his feet, despair written all over his face.
He would have kept his mouth shut if heâd known that this would happen.
âWhatâs wrong? What happened?â Wendy ran out of her room. When she saw the scene in the dining room, she was stunned. âWhat happened?â
It was like Lewis had seen an angel. Between coughs, he spat out, âWater ââ
Wendy immediately understood him and ran to the kitchen to pour him a glass of water.
He drank half of it in one gulp. It was only then that Lewis breathed easier.
Larissa was still in shock.
âIs it true? That Marilyn is the traitor?
She couldnât believe her ears.
âBut hasnât she worked at Blue Star Shipping for years? Have there been other secrets leaked to Moorewell Shipping?â
âNot before.â After his violent choking, Lewisâ voice was hoarse. âBut I have proof,â
Larissaâs heart skipped a beat. âWhat proof?â
âI looked up her background information.â Lewis drank another sip of water to wash down the unease.
âSheâs from an average family. She grew up with her mother, whoâs just a stayâatâhome mom. Although they lived in a small town before, they had all the best things that life had to offer. Marilynâs classmates said that in the four years of her university education, her clothes, bags, and makeup were all designer.â
âAre you saying that sheâs a sugar baby?â This was Larissaâs first thought.
Lewis glared at her and said crossly. âWhat is in that mind of yours?â
âWhere did her money come from, then?â Larissa was confused.
âThatâs the thing.â Lewis curled his linger and tapped on the table. âI got a hacker to search up Marilynâs bank account. Before coming to Blue Star, she lived off whatever pocket money her mother sent her. It seemed normal. So, I looked up her motherâs bank account and realized ââ Lewis trailed off, creating suspense.
Larissa urged. âWhat did you find? Donât leave me hanging. Say something!â
âI realized that since a long time ago, before Marilyn was even born, someone had been sending her mother money. And that person is the CFO of Moorewell Shipping.â
This revelation was growing bigger and bigger. For a moment, Larissa couldnât take it all in.
âWhy does the CFO of Moorewell Shipping want to send money to Marilynâs mother?â
âI suspect that Marlyn and her mother have something to do with one of the superiors in Moorewell Shipping. I donât know who it is yet but this is enough to prove that Marilyn is the traitor.
âOur collaboration with Thompson Medical was leaked by her. As for Judy, she was probably just a decoy sent to confuse us and cast suspicion on your side, all to protect the real traitor, Marilyn.â
Lewis had made the explanation very clear. âSo she definitely has something planned for you today.â
Larissa was shaken. âSo, should I call her to tell her not to come?â
âYou can go.â Lewis said after a moment. âIl she does have bad intentions, we could use this chance to fire her.â
âAre you using me as bait?â Larissa was a little sullen.
Lewis raised an eyebrow and retorted, âDidnât you want to go in the first place?â
âAlright, donât say anything else. Just get changed. Weâll leave after breaklast.â
Wendy could only understand a small portion of their conversation.
âIs it safe for you to go?â she asked worriedly. âDo you need me to call the cops if you take too long to come back?â
âSure.â Lewis nodded. âSorry for the trouble. Wendy.â
Because of what happened before, Wendy and Lewis were still awkward around each other.
