Chapter 969
Sweet Subterfuge
Larissa was unable to sleep the entire night because of what sheâd seen at the restaurant.
She couldnât get Marilyn and Allenâs smiles out of her head.
She didnât know what they meant, but she felt like it had something to do with her.
Early the next day, Larissa received a call from Marilyn.
âLarissa!â Marilyn sounded anxious. âI accidentally broke the bracelet you gave me last night! Do you know if thereâs a place where I could get it repaired?â
Larissa calmly told her the sellerâs address. âYou can just head over. Iâll let them know online.â
âCould you come with me. Larissa? Iâve never bought these types of bracelets before. I donât know what itâs like to repair them. What if the owner cons me? Marilyn was worried.
âI donât know, either.â Larissa wasnât lying. She had never bought jewelry like this. She just thought that this was a trustworthy shop.
âIf youâre worried about it, you can put off the repairs. Iâll ask about it another day and see if there are any reliable jewelers in Westonia.â
âBut this is your farewell gift to me! I want to get it fixed and put it on quickly.â Marilyn didnât seem willing to take her suggestion. âPlease.
Larissa. Come with me.â
Larissa was about to refuse, but when she looked up, she saw Lewis, who had just happened to be walking toward the kitchen.
âAlright,â she said instead. âIâll get myself ready and pick you up at your house.â
When Lewis heard that he was about to ask a question, but then Larissa held a finger to her lips.
I âOh, thereâs no need! Iâm the one whoâs troubling you. How could I make you pick me up?â Marilyn refused immediately. âWhy donât I drive you?
Larissa thought about it and said. âThat works too.â
âAlright, Iâm heading out now!â Marilyn hung up in satisfaction.
Larissa put her phone down, her face somber.
âWho are you going to pick up?â Lewis glanced at her and bit into the sandwich that sheâd just made.
He scoffed. âAnd itâs so mysterious.â
âMarilyn,â Larissa replied.
Lewis narrowed his eyes, tensing immediately. âWhat are you picking her up for?â
âI had dinner with her yesterday, and I gave her a bracelet. She called me to say that she broke it, and she wants to fix it but sheâs afraid of being conned.â
âNope. Iâm not letting you go.â Lewis looked serious. âCall her right now and say that youâre not going.â
âI still have to.â Larissa wanted to see what tricks Marilyn was hiding up her sleeve. However, she wasnât going to risk her safety for that.
âBut youâre coming with me.â She looked at Lewis.
âWhat?â He was stunned.
âDidnât you say that you wanted to protect me? Now is the time for you to commit to your responsibilities.â Larissa smiled. âI know that somethingâs off about Marilyn, but I know that sheâs not being manipulated. Sheâs conspiring with someone else.â
o tell her.
Il Marilyn was being manipulated by Allen, it would be Larissaâs responsibility to âItâs definitely the latter.â Lewis was sure about this.
âWhy?â Larissa didnât know why Lewis would say that. âIs there something youâre hiding from me?â
He put the sandwich back on the plate and reached out to take the glass of orange juice next to Larissa. But she look it away and said. âI you donât tell me the truth, let you choke to death.â
Lewis gagged and choked on the breadcrumbs stuck in his throat.
Finally, he got slightly better and held his neck as he said, âMarilyn is the traltor in the company.â
âWhat?â Larissa let go of the orange juice, and it spilled all over the floor,
