Chapter 968
Sweet Subterfuge
âWhy did you want to give me a present so suddenly? Marilyn asked curiously. She held her bracelet with her other hand.
Larissa said honestly, âIâm going back to Caldor next week.â
âWhat?â Marilyn was shocked. âAre you really going to teach Aldovian?â
âI donât know. Iâll think about it when I get back.â Larissa smiled and made up an excuse. âI just miss home. Iâm all alone here, and without work, itâs a struggle.â
âThat is true.â Marilyn pursed her lips, sobering up. âWill you still come back to Westonia?â she asked.
âWeâll see. If I find a suitable job in Caldor, I might not even come back,â Larissa said.
âWell, what about him?â Marilyn glanced at Allen. There was mischief in her eyes. âWhat if heâs just waiting for you to turn back?â
Larissa explained in exasperation, âThereâs nothing between us.â
âAlright, alright! I get it. Nothing between you,â Marilyn said, all smiles. It was obvious that she didnât think so.
Because of Allen, Larissa was not looking as forward to this dinner as she had been.
Sheâd planned to talk with Marilyn more. But Allen would sometimes glance over, and that would make her anxious. After their meal she called the waiter over to pay the bill.
The moment they stepped out of the restaurant, Allen came running over.
âLarissaâ he called out as if afraid that she wouldnât hear him.
Larissa had to stop. She turned and asked, âIs there anything else you need me for?â
âItâs Sunday tomorrow. Do you have anything going on?â Allen asked. âIâm planning to take Freddy out.
Do you and Noah want to come together?â
âIm not available tomorrow. Sorry about that,â Larissa refused. âHave a blast you two!â
âBut Freddy really wants you to go.â Allen held Larissaâs hand, not wanting her to leave unless she agreed.
Larissa didnât want to argue with him. She shook his hand off sullenly.
âI told you. Allen, Iâm not available.â
A dark cloud obscured Allenâs eyes for a moment, but he remained calm.
âAlrightâ he said a little regrettably. âApologies for disturbing you.â
Larissa did not care about him anymore. After saying goodbye to Marilyn, she crossed the road to her car.
She couldnât turn in the middle of the road. so she had to make a Uâturn at the junction up front.
While at a distance away, she could see Marilyn and Allen standing together at the restaurantâs entrance.
They were talking to each other. Larissa couldnât hear what was being said, and she couldnât see the expressions on their laces.
Several questions popped up in her head.
Had they met before?
Or was Allen harassing Manlyn?
What if there was another possibility?
The car drew nearer. The restaurant lights were incredibly bright.
Larissa could clearly see Marilyn saying something to Allen with a smile, to which he responded with a similar smile.
She didnât want them to notice her, so she stepped on the pedal and soon disappeared.
