Chapter 951
Sweet Subterfuge
An ungrateful person like Judy should just experience more of societyâs harsh realities!
âWhatâs wrong again? Wendy strolled out of her room. She had a white mud mask applied on her face while wearing a white cotton nightgown. She scared the living death out of Larissa.
âDonât you have other nightgowns to wear? And your face- Larissa leaned against the armrest of the couch as she put a hand against her pounding heart. She did not want to look at Wendy any more than she should.
âThis nightgown is comfortable and cool.â Wendy sat next to Larissa as she complained while painting her nails. âThe thermostat here is too warm! Itâs still fucking hot even if I wasnât wearing anything while lying down.â
âYour body is still weak, so you must take care not to catch a cold.â Larissa told Wendy of âI know my body.â Wendy was not worried. âHey-âShe turned to look at Larissa as she asked randomly, âWhat are your thoughts on the future?
âWhat future? What thoughts? Larissa did not get it.
âWell your future with Mr. Rogers. Are you staying in Westonia or going back to Bartham? Wendy looked more serious than before.â1 know you said that you wanted to stay in Westonia longâterm because your dad is here, but I feel like Mr. Rogersâ parents might not agree.
âI mean, look at Asterâs retum this time. They canât even let him go Iâm just trying to say, if you are all going back to Bartham, I will quit my job and go with you guys, I was used to living alone abroad, but now that youâve accompanied me for so many yearsâ1 feel horrible when staying alone.â
âWe might go back to Bartham.â Larissa did not hesitate in her reply. âMy dad and my cousin were recently thinking about moving the heart of Blue Star Shippingâs business back to Caldor, if itâs successful weâll all go back.â
âCoolâ Wendy was very direct too. âOnce my annual leaves are over, I tell my boss that Iâm quitting.â
Larissa could understand Wendyâs feelings, so she did not advise her against it. She only said, âAs long as you donât regret it.â
The next day at work, Larissa reported to Lewis about the call from Judy last night. âShe said Moorewellâs burning bridges as they are firing all the people who jumped ship over to their companyâ
Lewis frowned. âI did not receive any news about this.â
âHuh?â Larissa thought of Judyâs tears yesterday and could not help but question Lewisâ words. âCould it be that your information is not up to date? Could it be that Judy and the others got their dismissal letters, but Moorewell had not made an official announcement yet?â
âNo.â Lewis was very sure though. âThey were still clocking in for work as normal yesterday.â
âThere must be time for the handover even if theyâre fired, right? Maybe they wonât be there anymore in a few days,â Larissa was stil certain that the matter of Judy getting lined was not fake.
Lewis was finally convinced by her. He said after a momentâs silence, âIâll call and check.â He called in front of Larissa and put his phone on speaker, Larissa was not sure about who it was on the other end of the call she only heard him say. âThere seems to be something about that. But there werenât a lot of them who got fired. The only one Iâve heard of was the one who jumped ship at the very beginning, Judy Turner, âSheâs pretty arrogant at Moorewell too, and has offended a lot of people. Sheâs probably getting abandoned because she has nothing else to offer.â
âAlright, I understand.â Lewis ended the call âSince Judy getting fired is real, then thereâs nothing to worry aboutâ Lewis originally thought there was some scheme behind this, but it seemed that he had overthought this matter.
âJudy has leaked a lot of Blue Star secrets to Moorewell, so we will definitely not accept a settlement with her. If she looks for you again. just ignore her.â
âMaybe she just wanted to make it sound worse so you would pity her? Lewis suggested.
âMaybe.â Larissa did not have a better explanation.
