Chapter 933
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 933
As soon as the door was opened, Violet sprang up from the sola and hurried over.
Larissa entered the house first. When she looked up, the first thing she saw was Violetâs joyful face.
Taken aback, Larissa greeted Violet
immediately. âMrs. Rogers!â
âHi!â Violet took some house slippers from the shoe cabinet and helped Larissa put them on. After that she then looked her up and down.
âLari, youâve lost weight!â Violet exclaimed, her eyes shimmering with tears.
Larissa laughed awkwardly and looked to Kevan for help. Violetâs reaction was too much for her to handle. She didnât know how to comfort
her.
âThatâs enough.â Kevan interrupted the emotional moment. He grabbed Larissaâs hand from his motherâs and held it in his palm. âShe would rather lose weight than gain it.â
He wasnât wrong in saying that, itâs just that he was too blunt. Larissa didnât dare to agree and forced a dry laugh..
Kevan handed some tissues to Violet and said, âToday is a happy occasion. You shouldnât spoil it by crying.â
His words had an immediate effect and the tears disappeared from Violetâs eyes. She glared at him angrily. If Larissa wasnât present, she would have taught Kevan a lesson.
âDaddy! Mommy!â When he heard Kevanâs voice, Aster abandoned watching cartoons and ran over to them with bare feet.
Anthony followed behind him with Asterâs slippers. âAster, be a good boy and put on your slippers!â
Larissa was stunned at this scene. In her memory, Anthony was friendly but usually serious and reserved. She couldnât help feeling surprised at seeing him being so down-to-earth.
Aster rushed into Larissaâs arms and sniffled, âMommy!â
Anthony stopped in his tracks and smiled at Larissa. âHello, Lari,â
âGood evening. Mr. Rogers.â Larissa greeted Anthony as well. She patted Aster on the head and instructed him to put on his slippers.
Anthony squatted down and arranged the slippers neatly in front of Aster, making it easy for him to put on.
Larissa gripped Kevanâs hand more tightly. She was screaming inwardly at seeing the change in Anthony. This had to be an illusion and
she was still in a dream.
However, Kevan misunderstood her gesture. âDad, donât spoil Aster too much.â
He knew Larissa hated it when elders pampered Aster excessively. She didnât want to raise Aster to be a spoiled rich brat like Lana.
âHow can this be seen as spoiling him? Iâm just arranging his slippers neatly.â Anthony defended himself.
âThatâs right, your father hasnât done anything wrong!â Violet sided with her husband.
Kevanâs expression turned cold. âIf you two keep this up, I will take Aster away. I wonât let you two take care of him.â
Violet held Aster in her arms protectively, like a mother hen guarding her chick. She tried to reason with Kevan, âWe canât allow that! Both of you need to work, so leaving Aster here with us would be the safest.â
Kevan asked, âAre you going to raise another child to be like Bethany?â
This hit a sore spot for Violet. Her face pale, she said reluctantly, âAlright, I understand. I will not spoll Aster, nor let your dad spoil him. Are you satisfied?â
Kevan turned to Anthony. He straightened up and coughed awkwardly. âI wonât spall him either.â
With their promises, Kevan squeezed Larissaâs hand, gesturing to her that the maller had been sellled.
However, Larissa was bewildered. Whatâs going on? Why were everyoneâs faces so serious?
