Chapter 921
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 921
The ongoing teen drama series w
was so boring that it almost put Larissa to sleep. She struggled to stay awake. Her gaze happened to
catch a glimmer of light seeping through the door cr ack.
Kevan pushed the door open and walked in. He waved to Larissa. âCan you step out for a moment?â
As she was still holding a grudge from the previous nightâs leud,â she pretended not to hear him. She remained nonchalant at him.
Kevan smiled faintly. He approached her, bent down, and picked her up.
âAaaaaaah-she exclaimed. She was squirming in his arms.
Wendy was munching on potato chips and watching them with keen interest. She thought that the scene was more entertaining than the cheesy teen drama.
Kevan held Larissaâs flailing hands in place. He apologized to Wendy. âI need to talk to her.â
Wendy nodded confidently. âYeah, sure! As long as you need to!â
Larissa turned and glared at Wendy. Kevan carried Larissa into the study. He locked the door behind them. He gestured for her to sit on the desk and positioned himself between her legs. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders loosely. But this positionâ¦
She placed her hands on the desk, attempting to move backward. But he firmly pulled her back.
âDonât move. I have something important to discuss with you.â He gripped the nape of her neck.
Her face and neck flushed instantly. She felt embarrassed and indignant. âWhy do you need to talk in a position like this?â
âCh? So, what position do you prefer?â Kevan raised his eyebrows. His tone carried a hint of flirtatiousness.
Larissa wisely chose not to engage. She remained silent. Kevan chuckled softly seeing her relent.
However, he quickly reverted to
seriousness when he sensed the threat in her eyes.
âHereâs the thing. Edmundâs case is going to trial soon. You and Wendy may be summoned as witnesses. You should be fine. But Wendy
âMust Wendy go?â She didnât want Wendy to testify in court. Recounting the events would add another layer of trauma to her.
âIt would be better if she does. How about you go and ask her? If sheâs unwilling, weâll leave it at that,â
he suggested, trying to discuss the
matter with her.
âOkay, then.â She pursed her lips. Her mood was growing more solemn.
âDonât worry too much about her.â He cradled her face in his hands, using his thumbs to gently lift the corners of her mouth coaxing a
smile. âYou look better like this.â
Larissa gave him a wry look and replied coldly, âYouâre childish.â
âDidnât you say that Wendy plays Microworksâ online game? Why donât you ask her to give me her account? I can send her some in-game currency. Maybe it will make her happier? Kevan suggested hesitantly.
As it turned out, Wendy was more than just a little happier.
âHoly cr ap!â she exclaimed in excitement as she stared at the string of zeros behind her in-game currency balance. âForget about testifying in court; Iâd gladly kill Edmund myselfâ
She was more than eager to make Edmund pay for his actions; she wouldnât have shirked her responsibility even without the in-game currency. So, the in-game currency was an added bonus.
