Chapter 917
Sweet Subterfuge
Allen couldnât even be bothered to lock his car. He trotted over and asked. âWhereâs Freddy?â
Larissa pointed at the car. âHe was trying to escape just now, so Lewis has tied him up.â
Upon opening the car door, Allen called, âFreddy!â His voice was choked up, Hearing that the little kid finally stopped struggling and quieted down.
Lewis loosened the jacket and tie holding Freddy down, but he didnât remove the mask on the boyâs face.
Allen pulled Freddy into his arms and whined, âWhere did you go? You have made us look for you everywhere!â He sounded angry and joyful at the same time.
Once again, Freddy fell into silence.
âThanks, Larissa Lewis. Iâm sorry for bothering you at this hour,â Allen sald apologetically.
âItâs okay.â Larissa waved her hand. âHurry up and bring Freddy back. He must be scared and hungry.â
Allen nodded. âWeâll leave first, then. Iâll treat you to a meal some other day to express my gratitude.â
Larissa watched them go away. It wasnât until they had disappeared from her sight that she revealed her right hand. âI think I need to go to the hospitalâ she said to Lewis.
Freddyâs bite was fierce. After disinfecting her wound, the doctor applied medicine to it and dressed it with a bandage. Larissa clenched her fists tightly, bearing the pain.
âWhat bad luck I have. I was just trying to help, but I ended up getting injured.â
âYou should learn from this.â Lewis didnât show any sympathy for her at all âDonât meddle in something like this again. He could have just contacted the police when his son went missing. He must have harbored ulterior motives for calling you in the middle of the nightâ
âI donât think so?â To be honest, Larissa wasnât trying to put in a good word for Allen. âItâs true that Freddy is closer to me. Moreover, I also share the blame that he became like this.â
âWhat are you talking about?â Lewis didnât agree with her. âDid you beat or scold him? You are not even his mother and have no obligations to take care of him. Heâs now suffering from depression just because of your cold treatment? That simply shows that his dad doesnât know how to look after his son.
It has nothing to do with you.â
Although what Lewis said made sense, Larissa still felt bad about it.
âIf you still want to act like a saint next time, take a look at your hand first.â Lewis snorted. âI donât even know why youâre willing to suffer like this.â
Larissa lowered her head, having said nothing else.
By the time Larissa reached home, it was already the dead of night. In the living room was only Kevan, who was waiting for her to be back. When he saw Larissa, he immediately muted the television.
âWhy are you so late? Werenât you out just to have a meal with Lewis?â Upon seeing the Injury on her hand, he walked up to her at once and carefully put it on his palm. âWhat happened?â
âI was bitten by Freddy,â Larissa replied honestly.
The bite mark was deep. Even if the bandage was removed after a few days, the mark would probably still be there. Hence, there wasnât a need to lie since Kevan would know about it sooner or later.
âFreddy?â Kevan was aware of that name. âThat annoying kid who keeps pestering you?â
19se but donât describe him like that. He is not annoying, and he doesnât always pester me either.â
