Chapter 895
Sweet Subterfuge
Wendy seemed to have missed Larissaâs signal.
She continued talking to Kevan, âLari had a tough time from pregnancy to childbirth, and even during her postpartum period.
âWhen she first arrived, she was unfamiliar with the place. She had to attend school. Every day, she was running between school and heme. It was really tough.
âIt was only later, when her belly got bigger, that she couldnât move around as much. So, she stayed home until childbirth.
âBoth of us had never given birth before, so we had no experience. I collected a lot of recipes, but my cooking skills were quite limited. The truth is, Lari would rather eat fries and burgers than touch the nutritious meals I made.â
Wendy shot a resentful glance at Larissa.
âYou call those ânutritious meals? If I didnât know any better, Iâd think you were trying to torture me or make my life miserable!â Larissa also expressed her dissatisfaction.
âHey, why are you so ungrateful? Even if my cooking wasnât the best, at least my heart was in the right place. Couldnât you pretend that I did a good job just to cheer me up a bit?â Wendy grumbled in frustration.
âYouâve tasted your own cooking: do you really think I could pretend?â Larissa countered. She was unwilling to back down.
Kevan was afraid that their argument might escalate further. He quickly intervened, saying. âAlright, alright, letâs drop the subject.â
The two women exchanged glares and simultaneously let out an annoyed âHmph.â
They turned their heads away from each other, resembling quarreling elementary school children.
He forcefully changed the topic. âI go arrange for Wendyâs discharge procedure. Where will you go afterward? To your place or ours?â
âMine!â
âOurs!â
Both Larissa and Wendy responded simultaneously but with completely different answers.
âWeâre going to our place. Iâll drag you there even if you refuse!â Larissaâs tone was resolute.
displeasure.
âWhy are you acting like this? How is what youâre doing any different from Edmund?â Wendy expressed her displ However, the room fell into an awkward silence the moment she made that comparison. The air was thick with tension.
Wendy nervously clutched her spoon. After a while, she quietly apologized, âIâm sorry. Thatâs not what I meant. Please donât misunderstand.â
Larissa quickly responded with a simple âOkay,â preferring not to dwell on the topic related to that person any longer.
In the end, Larissa managed to convince Wendy to come with her.
Larissa had a valid argument. âYouâve just had surgery. You need someone to look after you. But donât get the idea that I want you to stay at my place. Once youâre back on your feet, youâre the first one Iâll kick out!â
Wendy didnât even lunch. She responded coldly. âFine.â
Kevan and Larissa left Wendy at home after repeating the various instructions given by the doctor.
They were on their way to the supermarket to purchase the items needed for Wendyâs recovery.
On the journey, Kevan revisited the topic that had been cut short during their hospital visit due to escalating tensions.
*So. was it really tough for you when you gave birth back then?â
She hesitated briefly before waving her hand dismissively. âDonât mind Wendyâs words. You know she likes exaggerating.â
She felt somewhat resistant. âItâs all in the past. Thereâs nothing much to say.â
From her perspective, his current behavior seemed like a form of âsellâinflicted pain.â
What could he possibly achieve by knowing that she had a difficult time back then? Alter all, he didnât possess a time machine to alter the past.
âI still want to know,â he insisted.
She sighed softly. She propped up her chin as she gazed out of the window. After a while, she turned back to him and said. âAlright, then tell you.â
