Chapter 890
Larissa dialed Kevanâs number.
The phone rang for what felt like ages. Kevan finally answered it just before it could disconnect.
âHey, Lad?â Kevar seemed to intentionally lower his voice. âAre you up?â
It was eerily quiet on the other end of the fire, making it impossible for Larissa to pinpoint his current location.
âYeah,â she responded. âWhere are you?â
He hesitated for a moment before replying. Me? Well Iâm at the hospitalâ
Larissa immediately sprang up from the couch. âWhat happened?â
âItâs not me,â Kevan paused briefly. His voice became solter as he continued, âItâs Wendy.â
âWendy?â Larissa rushed into the room, not realizing her knee had collided with the coffee table, causing her to wince in pain. But even
then, nothing could stop her.
âWhich hospital are you at? Iâm on my way!â she exclaimed.
âDonât-â Kevan interjected. âWendy is asleep, and she wonât wake up for a while. Iâll head back home soon. We can go visit her together
tomorrow.â
âAhâ¦â Larisse sighed, hanging the clothes she had taken out back up. âWell just make sure you stay sale on your way back.â
an hour later, Kevan returned. He even brought her some takeout from McRonaldâs.
The smell al Iried lood kept watting out of the paper bag. But Larissa lost her appetite despite growling with hunger.
âWhatâs going on with Wendy?â She held onto Kevanâs hand her worried expression was evident.
âYou should eat first.â Kevan handed her the bag of food. âTill you in later.â
Larissa took a bite of the burger as if she was merely going through the motions. But before she could swallow, impatience got the better
of her. âCome on, tell me!â
âI went to see her this afternoon and showed her some evidence,â he began from the start, trying to create some space for the revelation.
âSo? Whatâs the connection between that and her being in the hospital?â She wasnât interested in hearing any nonsense.
âLater, I planned to take her home, but she accidentaly slipped and fell when she tried to avoid me. She lost the baby.â His expression was solemn, and his tone was filled with quill.
She lost her grip on the burger, causing it to fall to the floor. âWha-what? Say that again⦠What happened to Wendy?â
She couldnât believe her ears. Tears welled in her eyes, teetering on the edge of falling.
He embraced her and apologized. âIâm so sorry.â
His voice was hoa rse, and it trembled ever so slightly. âItâs my fault.â
Larissa clung Lightly to his shirt her face buried in his chest, sobbing with each breath.
âItâs on me.â She sobbed, her cries reaching Kevanâs ears. Tim the one who hurt her, not you. Youâ¦â
She raised her head, her teary eyes locking onto his. Even in the depths of her own sorrow, she continued to comfort him, âDonât blame yourself. Itâs not your laull.â
Kevan held her even more tightly.
âKevan.â She rarely used his name so intimately.
His body shook slightly, and he responded with a solt âYeah.â
âI want to go to the hospital to be with her, Larissa said.

âShe must be devastated-betrayed by someone she loved, deceived by a close friend. Now, even the babyâ¦â Her voice got caught in her throat, and she couldnât continue.
âItâs too late. Iâve arranged for a caretaker to take care of her. Donât worry about her, Get a good nightâs sleep, and Iâll take you there early in the morning. Okay?â Kevan tried to persuade her.
However, she stubbornly shook her head. âI canât sleep.â
