Chapter 833
Sweet Subterfuge
Larissa might have used too much force earlier.
As she spoke, she reached out to pull up Freddyâs sleeve.
He pulled away in alarm and hid his arm behind him.
Freddy insisted, âIt doesnât hurt.â
Larissa wasnât feeling at ease with his strange reaction.
âLet me talk to your dad. We should go to the hospital for a checkâup, okay?â she tried to coax him with a gentle tone.
Freddyâs resistance grew stronger.
He took a few steps back and shouted at Larissa, âNo! Donât tell my dad! Iâm not going to the hospitalâ
Larissa grew worried and waved at him.
âOkay, I wonât tell your dad. I wonât bring you to the hospital either. Come over here and letâs talk properly.â
Freddy kept his distance and looked at her warily.
He did not move closer to Larissa at all.
Larissa and Freddy remained in a standoff until Kevanâs and Allenâs cars pulled up in front of them.
Kevan honked the horn, startling Larissa.
At this moment Freddy dashed past her and got into Allenâs car.
Allen seemed to be saying something to Freddy in the car.
Then, Freddy rolled down the window and flashed a bright smile at her.
He waved to her and called out, âLarissa, goodbye!â
There was no sign of his previous aversion to her.
Larissaâs heart sank.
She felt something off with Allen and Freddy.
Seeing that Larissa hadnât moved from her spot. Kevan honked the horn again.
Larissa picked up the bag at her feet and held Asterâs hand as they got into the car.
âWhy did it take you so long?â Larissa asked Kevan.
He parked the car just one street away from the kindergarten. Including the time he took to walk there, it should only take him live minutes. Still he and Allen took nearly ten minutes to return.
âYour exâsuperior chatted with me for a bit,â Kevan replied calmly.
Larissa was shocked. âWhat did he say?â
Kevan glanced at Aster, who was engrossed in a game on his phone. âI will tell you when we get home, but youâd better stay away from him in the future. There is something fishy about him,â he said with a cold gaze.
âHuh? What do you mean? Larissa didnât understand.
Kevan didnât elaborate further.
Larissa had made reservations at a restaurant for dinner. It was near the hotel where Wendy worked. It was also Wendyâs favorite restaurant.
Larissa had the idea of bumping into Wendy, thatâs why she decided to come here for dinner. That woman was so caught up with her lover that she had not replied to Larissaâs messages.
Because of the restaurantâs great location, it was always crowded.
Larissa reserved a table that was not directly by the window, but they were sufficiently close. It was facing the hotelâs entrance so she could easily see who came out of the hotel.
Larissa ordered something and kept her eyes fixed on the hotel.
Kevan followed her gaze and asked curiously, âWhat are you looking at?â
Larissa smirked and said. âIâm setting up a trap and waiting for my prey to fall into it.â
Kevan quickly understood. âAre you waiting for Wendy?â
Larissa nodded, âYes. She hasnât replied to my message all day. I want to see just how charming her mysterious friend is to keep her so engrossed.â
Kevanâs expression changed, and he said, âLetâs change restaurants.â
âWhy? I finally managed to book a table here. Who knows, Wendy and her friend might turn up. I want to give her a good interrogation when they arrive!â Larissa disagreed.
Before she could finish her sentence, a familiar figure appeared at the entrance of the hotel opposite the restaurant.
Larissa was overjoyed and took up her phone to take a picture. However, she froze in place when she saw the man beside Wendy.
âHow could this be?â
