Chapter 815
Sweet Subterfuge
Larissa followed Kevan reluctantly into the kitchen. He closed the door yet again.
âWhat happened to you just now?â He had his back to the door, blocking her escape.
âWhat do you mean, just now? Whatâs wrong with me?â Larissa was stunned by his question.
âDuring dinner just now. you were lost in thought with a sad expression.â Kevan reminded her.
Larissa realized what he was referring to and felt flustered. She didnât want to tell him the truth, so she used Wendy as a shield. To make it seem more believable, she said with a pout.
âIâm sad because Wendy wonât bring her friend back to meet me. Even though we are best friends and I tell her everything I didnât expect her to hide this from me.â
Kevan didnât seem the least bit suspicious. The lensed lines on his face softened, and he ruffled Larissaâs hair affectionately. âMaybe she felt that it wasnât the right time to introduce him to her friends. Or He paused abruptly with a cold look in his eyes. âThat man has something to hide. Thatâs why he doesnât want to meet you.â
Suddenly, Larissa grabbed Kevanâs wrist and tugged on his arm.
âHey, are you saying that because you know who he is?â She leaned in, almost pressing against Kevanâs chest.
Although Kevanâs inner voice was urging him to hold her tightly in his embrace, her question was hard for him to answer, I Kevan pushed her away with a stem expression. âDidnât already tell you? I donât know him.
âThatâs impossible! You definitely know who that person is Otherwise, why would you go and pick him up? Mr. Rogers personally picking this man up at the airport? That personâs identity must be extraordinary! Larissa was becoming more cominced.
âI donât know him. The reason I said I would pick him up was to help Wendy out. Donât overthink itâ
Kevan insisted.
âYouâre not the kind of person who helps Just anyone!â
Larissa had spent enough time with Kevan to know that. In addition, she had gathered as much information from Dylan. She had a fair understanding of Kevanâs personality.
As Dylan would put it, Kevan was a shrewd man. He only made friends when it benefited him.
He would only help others with the expectation of something in return. Of course, these principles did not apply to Kevanâs family and close friends, Larissa could count the number of people in his inner circle on one hand, However, Wendy wasnât part of his inner circle.
âWendyâs friendship does not benefit you in any way.â Larissa stared at him suspiciously. Hearing her words, he chuckled.
âYouâre wrong. Being in Wendyâs good books carles substantial benelis,â Kevan chirped with a sincere smile.
âHuh?â Larissa was caught off guard. Before she could clarity what benefits Wendy could bring him, he evicted her from the kitchen. âGo and bother those two. Donât disturb me while Iâm doing the dishes.â
Larissa was perplexed. âWasnât it you who dragged me here in the first place?â she shouted anally from the other side of the door.
After finishing the dishes, Kevan came out to the living room with a plate of cut fruits.
âMr. Rogers, canât you stay here forever?â Wendy looked at Kevan longingly, who only smiled without a word.
He took some tissue and dried his hands. Picking up his coat from the back of the solla, he bid farewell.
âItâs getting late. Iâm heading back to the hotel,â
Hearing this, Larissa put down the fork in her hand and stood up immediately. With her mouth full of strawberries, she mumbled. Til see you off.â
